PLEASE NOTE: The Reality TV World Message Boards are filled with desperate
attention-seekers pretending to be one big happy PG/PG13-rated family. Don't
be fooled. Trying to get everyone to agree with you is like herding cats,
but intolerance for other viewpoints is NOT welcome and respect for other
posters IS required at all times. Jump in and play, and you'll soon find out
how easy it is to fit in, but save your drama for your mama. All members are
encouraged to read the
complete guidelines.
As entertainment critic Roger
Ebert once said, "If you disagree with something I write, tell me so, argue
with me, correct me--but don't tell me to shut up. That's not the American way."

"Mt. Everest, Beyond the Limits" |
LAST EDITED ON 12-31-09 AT 03:57 PM (EST) 1. What? Are those guys crazy? Up-climbers passing down-goers in the "Death" zone on an ice covered 6" wide ridge with miles to fall on either side, in clumsy snow gear, crampons, and everyone breathing from oxygen bottles and about to pass out from exhaustion and low pressure (altitude) sickness? And where 100mph -40F winds can simply blow everybody off that narrow ridge on mountain? A hundred or so people in a Conga Line trying to Summit whenever weather would allow it? Not to mention the $50K or so each climber has to shell out. What kind of crazy person does this?
Fooner? Where is Fooner? Hanging off Nanga Parbat no doubt. 2. The views! Wow. The photography sells the show, IMO. The heck with the dead bodies and human interest dramas, let's just watch the scenery. 3. Check out "Into Thin Air: Death on Everest" (book and TV) if you want an idea how dangerous climbing these high mountains (and Everest specifically) can be. 4. Those early climbers, esp. those that did it without oxygen, in the winter, solo, on un-established routes, they were inconceivably, unbelievably tough. And crazy.

I had no idea this was on before. Interesting (and what vistas) on TV, but a braving the dangers of a beach sand dune is about my style.
