"Sober House with Dr. Drew" |
At first, I didn't know exactly what to think of Dr. Drew. He always seemed to offer halfway decent advice, but I could never help but think that something wasn't quite right with what he was doing on the Celebrity Rehab show. Sure, the show gave a lot of insight to how an addict operates, but it also turns something that's intended to be private into a full out confessional. So why do I feel informed when I watch a show like A&E's "Intervention", but I feel like dirty scum when I watch "Sober House"?The answer is that Dr. Drew is a total douchebag. Maybe the worst human being on TV, and yes I have seen episodes of "Jersey Shore". Dr. Drew keeps reminding us in every episode about how patients are his #1 priority. So what happened in the last episode when the Sober House Manager lost her collective sh!t because Mike(from Alice In Chains fame) wouldn't obey the rules and started cussing in her face? Dr. Drew scolded her. "You can never swear at a patient", is what he told her with that smug ugly face of his. While I don't dispute that swearing at a drug addict, while they are in recovery, probably isn't a good idea, I couldn't help but wonder if Dr. Drew thinks it's a good idea to put two feuding ex-lovers into the same rehab/sober house facility? Apparently he thinks that's a brilliant idea, because Heidi Fleiss and Tom Sizemore were both placed under the same roof at both facilities. Apparently Dr. Drew didn't realize how highly unstable Sizemore is, although it didn't take the rest of us non-doctors long to figure that out. But who cares when you garner big ratings from the fireworks they're bound to set off, right? Both parties are constantly threatening to leave the house and end their treatment because, like any other pair of ex's, they hate each other and broke up for a reason. It's not just the obvious that bothers me about this guy, either. It's also that pathetic sympathy face he gives the patients everytime they tell him how stressed out they are. It's also the fact that he won't let the Sober House Manager kick Mike out, despite the fact that he does nothing but defy the rules, but then gets all high and mighty with her about freaking out and swearing at Mike. Hey Drew, you try managing these psychopaths, that you put together, for even a day and I gurantee you'd be swearing up a storm!
