"S45 - Episode 2 - The Nerdy King"
LAST EDITED ON 10-06-23 AT 01:07 AM (EST)

We begin the evening at McEntyre where Sufi has a great hobby ; Puncing trees. He says his right hand doesn't hurt whem he does it.

Got news for you Sufi: That's not normal. I also bet you won't feel it when the knife goes into your back because, like your right hand, your brain seems unable to sense exterior stimuli.

While Sufy punches trees, Maya tries to decipher the idol clues on the tribe flag. She doesn,t seem to figure out she needs some help to decode it.

Meanwhile Texas has found the clue and figured out where to look.

Good first step. At least one cast member isn't a total waste of space.

At Belo, Bruce is happy. So happy he's upsetting Katurah.

Looks like we have a conflict at Belo. Katurah seems to be oversdoing the: I may be African American but I won't follow a dumba$$ just because he's also black. Seems like you're following no one Katurah which tells me who will lose that conflict.

In Lululooser, Emyloser is loosing her time looking for idol. She then gets frustrated when her tribe mates tag along to shadow her.

This episode's main theme will be about Emyloser going from certain next boot to accepted member of the alliance. Brandon's eventual dismissal killed the possibility of one of Jiffy's favorite comeback story but let's not forget that Emyloser was the first player we thought wasn't long for the show.

Blandon finds the Beware clue but in true coward he is scared of opening it so he gives it to Shabby. She figures out the clue and locates the tree. So Shabby is not so Shabby after all

Back at McEntyre we learn that Dee has a BIG big toe. Meanwhile Julie is ready to build a family Final four with Big Toe, the Nerd and Texas. The Nerd agrees and has a big interview to announce that he will be king of this alliance.

There have been many Kings and Queens on Survivor, at least the wannabe kind! but Drew has to be the weirdest, the nerdiest one yet.
At least, We see the dynamics of Reba which put Maya and Sifu on the outs.

A Boat arrives at each beach and Blandon, The Nerd and Uncle Bruce go for a ride. Emilyloser is upset that Uncle Bruce butt checked her off the boat.

The three men get together, bond and then find their challenge. Bruce wants nothing to do with it. Blandon says this puzzle is made for him. Of course, he fails. The Nerd is the only one to solve the combination and gets one of the DusAdvantage Advantage: Safety wihtout Power. At least he has the presence ofm mind to tell everyone about it and promise to give it to someone who will be in trouble.

I can't imagine an upside to using it for yourself. Walking out of TC saves you 1 round but certainly makes you Numero Uno on the next one.

Now comes the Challenge and I know one viewer who is so transfixed by excitment he may just wet his pants. Imagine, we have 9 clowns running the same kind of Mickey Mouse course we've seen dozens of times. and then 6 nerds who were considered too inept to swim, will attack the same kind of upright puzzle we've also seen too often to remember.

Anyway, you guessed it, LuLulooser well looses when their puzzle-guy par excellence guys, Blandon, can't solve the puzzle.

Red and Blue get fishing equipment. There used to be great stories built around this reward but I bet we'll barely see anyone using it.

Back in Lululooser, Shabby spots a coconut in e tree that isn't a coconut tgree. She figures that someoine planted it there.

Geez! That kind of reasoning probably places her in the upper tier of Survivor's IQ. I'll go and guess that she scored between 80 and 90 in the test.

Blandon thinks the tribe will vote Emilooser who knows she's in trouble. She gives her Shot in the dark to Shabby to prove her loyalty.

I thought players picked a shot in the dark during TC but it's clear that each contestant is given one at the start of the show. Easy for production to slip in their favorite's bags.

After all the yadda-yadda of TC, Blandon is voted out. He's supoer excited to have lived his dream.

I'M guessing that his dream turn to nightmare when the show started airing.

NTOS:

Dee feels that the Nerd is cheating on her for looking for an idol.
Shabby and Emilooser aim for Shish-Kabob
One camp will get raided. It'll probably be Lululooser but what loot do they have to steal? Emilooser's crabs?
Jake does a Skupin and head dives into the fire.

As always, an outstanding job with the recrap.

LOOOOVE your opening bash! I was so expecting you to say in true Michel fashion, “since Production casted Sufi, the ‘typical American’ goes around punching trees.” Ha-Ha...had to get my shot out of the way.

Seriously, I was going to incorporate Sufi’s antics in my earlier post saying something to the effect, he should realize with “new school” Survivor, tribemates covet hands used to solve “damn friggin’ puzzles” instead of punching trees. I was also going to mention whatever that funky hairdo he has. I guess it’s something of a cross between a mohawk and a conehead? I suspect it has a particular name that probably sounds as silly as it looks. We’ll just refer to it as a Sufi-do for our bashing purposes.

You lost me with the nickname “Texas” and what that refers to?

As long as Katurah appropriately bashes Jacka$$ Bruce in the privacy of her own confessionals and does not get vocal about it with her tribemates, there’ll be no “conflict” to lose.

Even before last week’s Premier ended, only an idiot would think any tribe other than LuLuLosers would live up it that name, meaning either Brandon OR Emily would survivor with the other voted off. That being said, it’s a no-brainer that player surviving would advance as Carolyn did last season...and countless casting debacles before her. Yep, let’s count on Emily going deep into the game.

Blandon absolutely was a scaredy-cat coward with how he handled the Beware Clue. Although he’s in large company since scaredy-cat cowards are a dime a dozen with the existence of the Anti-Darwin Syndrome.

Perhaps the size of one’s big toe might correlate to the size of one’s mouth. May want to go back and check some old footage to see if we have a scene with Perv-ati barefooted.

I agree Drew would be a weird “King.” Although, as a lover of World History, Charles VI of France who refused to allow anyone to touch him because he thought he was made of glass, would be REALLY tough to beat for weirdness.

Anyway, you are correct with your observation that the Reba alliance could spell disaster for Sifu-do and/or Maya. May as well include Maya in the bashing parade. HDTV is not doing Maya any favors. Not sure if it was the way the sun was hitting the camera lenses, but I could have sworn I saw something that resembled a moustache during one of her closeups. The last female castaway I recall in need of a shave was Kim from One World. It worked out quite well for her that season.

If the possessor of an advantage chooses wisely and successfully plays the advantage to save him or herself, they were “Numero Uno” for THAT TC, not necessarily the “next one.” It’s not unusual in the Game of Survivor to survive TC by playing an idol/advantage and giving yourself another three days for one of the moron/idiots habitually casted by Production to shoot themselves in the foot and put a bigger target on them. In any event, I agree Drew played it smartly when he returned back from the Journey.

I DID come close to “wetting my pant...” but only because I was holding it in for ALMOST AN HOUR until we FINALLY got a challenge! Geezo Peezo!! I agree with your criticism over Productions recycled challenges, but for the umpteenth time, it’s the competition aspect that captivates mankind. Always has...and always will.

I am also in agreement we’ll barely see the reward being used with “new school” Survivor. Although last season I believe we saw Carolyn using swim gear won from a RC, but I think that was more to showcase her plastic boobies. Haven’t noticed any plastic boobage sightings this season so far; so, it may be a safe bet we won’t be seeing the reward items used.

Not sure I am understanding another one of your patented “Paul is dead” conspiracy theories with regards to the shot-in-the-dark?

To my recollection, I believe the shot-in-the-dark has worked only once since it was implemented into the game. If so, Emily didn’t give up a whole lot. On the receiving end, if Shabby can use BOTH at the SAME TC, it could mean something. If she can only use one at EACH TC, then Shabby’s not getting a whole lot either.

As a superfan, Blandon had to know his editing goose was cooked the minute he pathetically struggled on the ladder during the opening scene of the season months before he started watching the show air.

As for the NTOS, Jake doing a bad “Skupin” imitation has “Red Herring” written all over it. We shall see.

Thank you, Aruba, I also love to bash them, you know,

I've seen weirder Hair on Football pLayers but Sufi-do does the trick.

Texas = Austin, Didn't try to make itr complicated with the context of finding the idol

The conflict between Karateka and Bruce is in the edit. We are supposed to take one side or the other and applaud if or when our favorite eliminates the other. I'll take Bruce if you like Karateka so much.

AS for weird King Britain's Richard III is hard to beat also. But Drew is Nerdy more than weird.

I agree that competition is captivating but in Survivor, the competition is the vote. Always was always will be. No one ever won the Million without winning the vote.

I thought there was a sort of bowl at TC in which the players picked the shot-in-the-dark that Jiffy would then reveal But we saw that they each have their own Shot-in-the-dark. So, if a great character was spotted early on during pre-game interviews, they could slip him the get-out-of-jail-free item. Yes, it's not a sure thing but it is something. Add an interviewer asking pointed questions just before TC and you get your guy to play his SITD

For example, I believe they did the Outcast twist during Pearl Islands because they wanted to make sure Fairplay would make it to the family visit since he had told casting about his dead-Grandma lie.

OK, now I get the “Texas” nickname.

I’m not digging Bruce OR Katurah; I’m just bashing the bigger Jacka$$.

The vote does determine the winner, so that could never be eliminated. My continual point is if Survivor had NO challenges/competitions, no way anyone can convince me we’d be watching season 45...even with the “vote.”

I guess I’m still not getting the “conspiracy theory” with the SITD. It’s no bigger; feel free to explain in an Ep. 3 thread post or when/if it is used sometime this season.

I’m fairly certain during the Reunion Show for Pearl Islands, it was stated when Fairplay told his dead-grandma lie, Production was putting the wheels in motion while the challenge was being run to get more information thinking he was telling the truth. It was not until AFTER the challenge concluded and Fairplay came clean about it did Jeff/Production realize it was a lie. This would contradict your theory they knew about his lie BEFOREHAND.

Catch up with you in an Ep. 3 recrap thread.

The Island staff didn't know about Fairplay's lie but casting and Burnett knew. He got on the show because he promoted his lie and they loved it. It was all told in interviews years ago.
