""Be The Survivor" S40, Ep05: "Nutty Buddies And Survivors On Steroids”"

It was looking like Adam, Parvati and Boston Rob were the most likely Selenium tribemates to go off to the Edge of Extinction, so it’s time to shake the Survivor snow globe and see what happens.

After the buff-satchel shuffle, the new tribes shake out as New Sele, New Dakal and the really new Green/Yara tribe. Interesting matchups include real life exes Wendell and Michele on the New Sele and Adam, Ben and Rob which may result as oil, water and more oil.

So new relationships form, alliances are tested and Yara is still looking for their Bed, Bath & Beyond coupons.

Laugh all you want at Sandra for sitting out challenges, you should realize that when she participates, she wins: That's two puzzles she's won for Dakal.

Even though Bed, Bath & Beyond coupons have “expiration dates,” the stores allow lifetime redemption; but you are only allowed to redeem the coupon one time. Rob’s Survivor “lifetime redemption winner coupon” was redeemed in a season appropriately named Redemption Island. Thus, the Aruba Commission did not have to work too hard to conclude how this episode would end...

#1 – The episode opens with Yul’s tear-jerking commentary on Penner’s wife Stacey suffering a terminal condition of ALS. As if his account was not heartbreaking enough, we all saw Stacey’s condition firsthand during the commercial break. If that does not tug on your heartstrings, then the Aruba Commission determines you have no heart. Yet still, should Yul advance deep in the game through his proactive efforts, the Commission cannot help but think the Conspiracy Theorists will spin even THIS tragedy as additional fodder to add to its ever-growing list of unproven “fixes.”

#2 – Due to the extra time needed for the added dynamics of three new tribes, we had no footage of the EoE this episode, or in other words, no “Natalie Show” who would have continued to display the true fighting essence of “Survivor.”

#3 – After the saddening assessment on Penner and his wife’s condition, the show needed a light-hearted lift and Jeremy provided what the doctor ordered with his Jefferson analogy. Comparing Denise and himself to “George and Weezie” by “movin’ on up” to a better Dakal camp was by far the most humorous moment of the episode.

#4 – We learned Wendell and Michelle previously dated prior to this season. Shame on Wendell...at the VERY least he should have given first dibs to Laurel whose unilateral vote gave him the Million Dollars. Yeah, Yeah...the Commission is aware he received five votes prior to Laurel’s sole vote making Wendell a millionaire...but Domenick ALSO received five votes as well...NUFF SAID.

#5 – With ALL breakups, separations, splits, etc.,the Commission is broad-minded enough to know THREE sides to every story always exist: His side; her side; and the Truth. Michelle sure didn’t waver to give us her side. Wendell did not share this personal chapter of his life as it is no business of the tens of millions viewing the show. The Commission concludes somewhere in-between lies the truth.

#6 – While on the Nu-Sele beach, Michelle suggests to the Perv they explore the possibility of adding some skank to the season. With tribemate Nick engaged along with Yul and the Perv both married with children, despite Michelle’s efforts, the Aruba Commission does not foresee renaming this season: Skankivor: Winners at War.

#7 – Already Swap-Zapped by the tribal switch and coming off his dynamic effort in the puzzle-solving portion at the last challenge only days ago, the Robfath”ah” puts his faith in Sophie and A-dum to solve the “damn friggin’ puzzle” to bring home a crucial Challenge victory? No wonder it took him so many tries to eventually become a Survivor “winner.”

#8 – With three tribes, two players will be sitting out of next week’s challenge. We can only wonder who will be joining Sandra on the lame “Sandra Sit-Out Bench” to enhance their “inept non-threat” advancement approach in the game.

#9 – Kudos to Sophie who won the Scavenger Hunt by out-searching the rest of the Yara tribe. Much to the chagrin of S35 Champion Ben, his new tribe was not in a sleepy mood.

#10 – Rob employed his “Buddy System on Steroids” as a “Hail Mary” pass to save his season. Steroids may enhance short-term performance...but the long-term effects are generally catastrophic. Two of Aruba’s former Collegiate teammates are tragically no longer with us as a result. Such was the figurative end result for Rob as well. Yet despite Rob’s best laid plans, CLEARLY collusion existed among the other four PRIOR to TC...NO WAY Sarah AND Sophie BOTH keep their advantages in their panties if no predetermined decision was made to assassinate Rob.

#11 – We sure had our fair share of Perv-ati’s infinite gumline and cemetery of smiling tombstone-size incisors this episode. Next week when the “coltoning” effect continues for her and she finds out she is the recipient of a Handout “on Steroids,” (Rob’s TWO fire tokens) her dinosaur grin will be wide enough to swallow her ears.

#12 – As promised, the Aruba Commission names its post-tribal switch “Dumbass Luck Award” recipient and “Swap-Zap” victim. We’ll start with the “Swap-Zap” because that’s an easy call—ROB. As if wearing his “Buddy System” around his neck like an albatross was not enough, having Adam (whom he snitched on,) Ben (who wanted Rob out from the get go,) and Sarah/Sophie as the minority two who were going to beg, borrow, and deal to pull in Ben and Adam, it all added up to the Survivor “kiss of death.”
A few nominees for the “Dumbass Luck,” but the nod goes to—KIM. Not immersed in any solid alliance on her Old Dakal tribe, and with Old Sele Jeremy/Denise the minority two, Kim finds herself conveniently and perfectly positioned in the Nu-Dakal tribe of five.

#13 – Fans who love to collect colorful social butterflies generally orgasm when the game expands to three tribes. The flipside to that MTV Real World on an Island concept, is one tribe who does NOT win the challenge is STILL able to escape TC. Case in point, Dakal did NOT win the challenge; Sele did. Either Sophie had a brainfart or she purposely threw it allowing Dakal to avoid Tribal. Although, NTOS we hear BOTH losing tribes will vote someone out of the game. On rare occasion the Aruba Commission must conclude even Production gets it right every now and then.
