"Thoughts on the Finale?" |
LAST EDITED ON 03-09-06 AT 10:20 AM (EST)This season was solid but a bit underwhelming, as Michael Kors would say. I felt the finale was satisfying. After the photos, I thought Chloe was weak, but on the show her collection was clearly the best. Daniel messed up and I don't think Santino was quite at the level of Chloe and Dan. Why so much shiny material Chloe? Still the best, though. Santino, toning it down doesn;t mean be boring. Dan, why did you put those silly patches everywhere? They looked stupid, and you designed those fishtail gowns without Nick? And, um...nice purses. Maybe he would have won if those junior high woodshop projects had stayed lost. I hope the designs are more dazzling next season.

2. "RE: Thoughts on the Finale?" |
Last season was better in terms of creativity and drama. This season I have wanted to off the judges. They came off as really b!t@hy, contradictory and not helpful at all. I actually thought Santino should've won -- I would buy/wear everything he sent down the runway (except the poufy black pleathery thing). The judges ticked me off the most with him -- all season they have been busting his you-know-what's that he's too over-the-top, NOT ready-to-wear -- like a broken record, over and over. He made a collection to appease the judges, but they were all still creative with a little edge and the judges do a 180 and pounce on him. Typical damned if you do/damned if you don't theme the Judges had this year. Daniel's designs were my second favorite -- There were a few pieces I would buy in a minute -- the 1st outfit with the tapestry jacket & satiny skirt -- the winter white coat -- the vest/blouse/slacks ensemble & the navy vest but minue the white pleated skirt. His designs were not really creative enough, but they looked really good. I really didn't like Chloe's collection. The main reason was all the pouffy sleeves needed to go. They really were hideous. Also, there wasn't any real variety -- all evening wear. There were a couple I would wear minus the pouf, but I just wasn't as impressed as the judges were. This season's failure I see as the Judge's fault. Both Michael & Nina acted like jealous step-sisters. They contradicted themselves from one ep to the next & made erratic cuts at times. I hope they do better in their critiques next season or bring in new judges -- I'm so OVER these two shrews. Kind Creation of ARNutz

I think she made up her mind in the first thirty seconds of the first show that Santino would not win, and stuck to her guns, despite what the editing might try to make us believe, showing us her "hemming and Hawing" routine over her pick for the winner last night. the judges were just crappy.

OOOOOO Cattychat do I agree!!!!!!!! Honestly, I too would buy and wear Santino's clothing (with the exception of the black coat). I too was also heated when the judges actually had the nerve to say his designs were boring and not at all what they had seen from him!!!!! So, the guy listens and they punish him, whatever I'm glad Santino was mouthy towards them. Daniel's designs were the second best to me. Take the patches and huge purses away and it would have been better, but I agree, not much creativity nothing that he made was really unique. Chloe's dresses were pretty but the puff sleeves and the constant use of the same material made me think that she didn't have as much creative process as she would have liked the judge's to think. I too was ticked at the judges this season.

I was surprised at how much different seeing the outfits go down the runway made me feel about the collections. Daniel's looked dull going down the runway, but the versatility in pieces was wonderful. Chloe's moved so well on the models, the clothing came alive. I didn't love her 13th piece, but whatever. Santino's were nice, but there were too many dresses and while they were beautiful, they didn't come alive for me. I guess I wasn't clearly rooting for a winner after the runway show. I feel bad for Santino since he thought he was giving the judges what they wanted.

Meowww! I'm an artist, and I understand everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I was sickened, just sickened by Chloe's collection. I felt she was really strong throughout the challenges, but that her collection was breathtakingly tacky....starting with the fabrics. The first dress seemed clunky to me, totalling swallowing the model; can't even imagine what it would look like on an average-size woman. The choker dress with that nasty shiny belt, two short dresses with curtain ruffle hems, those horrific little poofy shoulder things, and the reprisal of her butt enlarging, low-slung bustle on the navy blue dress? Her fantasy was my nightmare. I felt it was the least cohesive of the three collections too, the colors, the fabrics just didn't gel for me. It seemed consistent only in it's lack of taste. Perhaps if she had done sketches she might have pulled it together better like she did in the challenges. Santino's pieces were subtle, but they were beautiful, and if you pay attention to the details, both in cut, and fabric choices, you can see his spark of madness was still very much there. I loved the colors too. I think these pieces are extremely female-flattering, almost female worshipping. They are gorgeous. Daniel's collection had some really nice pieces, and some that were misses for me. Overall it was strong, certainly much stronger than Chloe's. I even happen to feel including the vintage craft-feeling purses was very hip, altho I'm sure distasteful to the cookie cutter people that want to look like everybody else. I went back today and looked at all three collections online (newyorkmetro.com) to see if I dreamed that Chloe's collection looked as if she had sent Joan Collins Dynasty wardrobe down the runway, and that she had won, but sadly, that was reality, the sad reality, of reality tv. One more thing bothered me last night -- wanted a more fashion-focused and knowledgeable guest judge...would have loved it to be Tim Gunn.

Wow. Chloe won. I gotta give em credit; I did NOT see that coming. And I thought her collection was like Competent Bridesmaidwear, although I did like the gold dress. WHICH DIANA DESIGNED. I was a little peeved that no mention was made of this when we saw Chloe tell Diana to just take over the designing and sewing of the 13th peice so Chloe could focus on the rest of her collection. I did admire the quality of the sewing, and I understood why they awarded it to her (although Daniel's stuff, sans the hideous Dungeons & Dragons Combat Patches, was pure Banana Republic and he'd be perfect for that franchise). So sad about Santino. I did agree that the fit of the bodices brought the gowns down. But the materials were so beautiful; that "disarming" dress is still fab. And I still think Santino has the best shot at being a unique, creative force in fashion future. Odd how Nina really seemed upset about booting him 3rd. Anyway, still enjoyed the season. I knew going in it couldn't be as good as the first time. These shows never are. I also didn't hate the cooking show. Did D. Messing have another baby? She looked bloated and wan.

Overall, my final thought about this season was it was more about the designers personalities than the actual clothing. True, I thought Santino deserved the win but even -he concentrated too much on being the one who stood apart from the others, unfortunately for him, in the wrong way. And I just think the judges were looking for an excuse to bump him to third place in the final. IMO, Daniel and Santino got screwed. I'm not sure why except I did get the feeling the judges were having a hard time keeping a straight and serious face during their 'deliberations' and now I know why--Chloe was their favorite all along. Personally, I haven't seen one piece in her collection I would wear. Did someone mention Dynasty? I also thought Nick should have been in the final three but that would have made three males...I guess a no-no? Too bad, I think he would have presented a smokin' collection. But I still loved the show and am definitely looking forward to next season. PR seemed to get a lot of press and attention this year so I'm thinking the standards will be higher next time around...hope so.

9. "RE: Thoughts on the Finale?" |
I felt the finale was very anti-climactic. I loved watching the runway shows, but I was expecting more last-minute fireworks. I was also sad that they didn't show more of Andrae and Nick, but I realize they were "out" and the finale wasn't about them.I really did a 180 after seeing the final collections--they were truly different to see flowing down the runway instead of just looking at stills. I was very impressed with Chloe's collection. I thought the colors, fabrics and styles really flowed from one to the next. And the collection was especially strong when all 13 outfits were parading the runway together. I don't think the objective of a runway show is always to create totally wearable designs. It's to show your range and vision as a designer--and Chloe did this very well. I also love-love-loved Daniel's collection! Even the bags (when seen from a distance and with a complementary outfit) fit very nicely and "finished" the look. It was curious how they didn't mention the bags at all when Tim had made such a negative statement about them in Part 1. It seems that either Tim Gunn was way off base, or else they did some creative editing. Santino had some exquisite pieces. His collection as a whole however didn't gel for me at all. The colors were all over the place. Dusty greens and melons with red? Then the 13th look was a deep rose? Didn't do it for me at all. I also thought part of Santino's downfall was his demeanor on the runway. The judges mentioned Chloe's "professionalism" more than once. While I understand Santino's pride and excitement at the time, I don't think screaming "My mom's the sh*&!" was appropriate at all!

I thought they were all not their best work. But Chloe???????? That horrible, horrible collection that could have come from the horrendous, 1980s bridesmaid gowns section of my attic cedar closet? Except even then, gold lame was super tacky? There was nothing there I would have been caught dead in today, but I'm positive I have that pink wrap thing with the huge puffy sleeves in that 80s bad bridesmaid collection I have. I wasn't a fan of Santino's all season, but I thought he had finally listened to what he was told. I liked several of his things. As for Daniel? I really liked his stuff. I have liked it all season long. I would wear almost anything he showed. But then I hated Jay, too. I'm a person who really likes classic, sophisticated, tailored elegance. Obviously, no one on this show does. Goddess of the Steeler Nation

Well, I started this and here I am again. Sort of to defend Chloe. She was very popular with everyone right up until the end, and when they showed, for example, the plant-based dress, her superiority showed. Like I said, I didn't like the bridesmaid fabric she used but I did think she deserved to win after seeing all collections. But I really am posting to say that I agree with the one poster who said that runway shows aren't really about being wearable. If that were the case, Wicked Wendy Pepper would have won last year. Jay designed a completely "unwearable" line that won (and deservedly so). This season, Dan was Kara Saun, a solid performer who seemed a likely possibility to win until the judges were disappointed by the final show. Interesting that last season there were two women and a man in the finals, and the man won. Then this year there were two men and a woman and the woman won. I think Daniel would have won if he had come through in the finale. I kind of thought the tide was turning, though, when Timm didn't like Dan's line but Dan just rebuffed Tim. And, of course, those nasty, nasty purses. Could he really have possibly won after insisting on his bizarre accessories? This season wasn't about the personalities, though. Certainly neither Chloe or Dan would have made the finals based on that. For drama, we would have had Santino, Andrae and Zuleema as the F3. And the final show would have definitely been freakier. I don't know if it would have been better or worse, probably worse...but more entertaining.

So many well constructed opinions. I'm a bit flat about the outcome, though I didn't expect to be. Santino, Chloe and Daniel are all good designers, but I was expecting more from their collections. Santino's was a bit too safe for Santino. I would have liked to see more of his signature style. I do, however, appreciate the fact that he designed for wearability, sagging busts aside. The judges need to flip-flop less. I don't think Santino would have won because he couldn't have pleased them with wild or wearable. Daniel's Japanese military theme with the funky retro purses was a bit silly. A few of his pieces were great, but the overall collection wasn't cohesive. I liked the idea behind his handbags, but the execution wasn't pretty. He's got a winning personality and admits to needing to learn more, he just graduated from design school for cripes sake. He didn't need to win to make it in fashion. Chloe's fantasy collection was a bit Collinsy and OTT. I did agree with the judges on seaming and fit, however. The fabric choices weren't attractive, the shrugs and flounce hems were crowding me from 2,000 miles away, and the lack of diversity was a bit of a problem for me. I'm very glad for Grace. She's a great model and deserves the space in Elle. Thanks, ginger, for the SC Tim Gunn link. I love that man.

I enjoyed it. I was rooting for Dan, I thought he was very good till the finale. I was not really impressed. Chloe's collection was lovely, she deserved to win. Santino really did a turnaround with his collection. I loved the purple dress. I was suprrised they wanted his other stuff.
