PLEASE NOTE: The Reality TV World Message Boards are filled with desperate
attention-seekers pretending to be one big happy PG/PG13-rated family. Don't
be fooled. Trying to get everyone to agree with you is like herding cats,
but intolerance for other viewpoints is NOT welcome and respect for other
posters IS required at all times. Jump in and play, and you'll soon find out
how easy it is to fit in, but save your drama for your mama. All members are
encouraged to read the
complete guidelines.
As entertainment critic Roger
Ebert once said, "If you disagree with something I write, tell me so, argue
with me, correct me--but don't tell me to shut up. That's not the American way."

LAST EDITED ON 12-02-05 AT 09:59 AM (EST)This is the first season I have ever watched Starting Over. I became intrigued with the life coaches ingenius style of therapy. I think they kick #####!! I believe there are a lot of people that could benefit from the "luxury" of having a life coach like Rhonda and Iyanla. I wanted to find out more about them, so I logged onto the website. When I found the message board, I was amazed. I couldn't believe how many comments pertained to clothing, make-up and hair. If this is a representation of society, then we are in big trouble. Focusing on the superficiality of looks is childish. These women have problems. They were chosen to be casted by the Starting Over staff for a reason. All of us know how difficult it can be to change deep seeded behaviors, break habits, small and large, and conquer addictions. Who are we to judge their progress? What is easy for you may be difficult for someone else. It is sad that socity as a whole is cruel, critical, shallow and judgemental. What happened to compassion, empathy, understanding and concern? It seems to me, with exception of Jessica, that there is a common denominator with Lisa, Christina, Jill and Allison - bad parenting. They are products of the environment they grew up in. Why would someone choose to expose themselves, the good, the bad and the ugly, on national television unless they felt their problems were unsurmountable and desparately wanted to change the course of their lives?

You sound like an intelligent, common-sense person, tough love! I agree with everything you say, especially the "what is easy for you may be difficult for someone else". How true that statement is. I think it takes incredible strength to go on a show like that, knowing you're bound to be ridiculed & made fun of (when you go back to your hometown) by some people. Thanks for your insight.

I think the show is great. However once you watch it everyday you feel like you know the people AND YOU TEND TO FOCUS ON THE MORE SUPERFICIAL STUFF

You need to get a hold of the 1st two seasons and see the difference. Many of us loved Allison too, until she started acting like a spoiled brat, and this is one of the ways posters lash out. It's not because they are on the show. It's because they act stupid on the show. Everybody grew up with crap. Having a traumatic childhood can only go so far as an excuse--right?? We as adults need to work on becoming more adjusted. Now that is what the house is for. But when you get in there after a few weeks and are still excusing your behavior, then some of us get mad, and we cuss and stuff on a message board. This is a way to work out anger. This board is like talking to another friend---it's okay to get mad here. That's what its for. There are other boards if you wish to speak in a more eloquent mannerabout SO--Rhonda has one on fearlessliving.com, I think. But if you get mad, come back. We could use your input!!! ____________________________________________________________________________

Our forums permit posters to make positive and negative comments about the show and its participants. What we do not allow is criticism of posters for the comments that they make.
