In an interview with Boxingtalk.com, Peter Manfredo Jr.'s new trainer Freddy Roach said that he would like Peter's next fight to be against Jeff "Left Hook" Lacy. Jeff Lacy was the IBF & WBO Super Middleweight Champion of the world until Joey Calzaghe recently beat him back in their fight on March 4th, 2006. Lacy also knocked out Peter Manfredo Jr.'s last opponent Scott Pemberton in 2nd round while Peter knocked him out in the 3rd round so if it happens then it could be an interesting fight; Lacy has big power but Manfredo has the boxing abilities. Freddy Roach said that he thinks it could happen before the end of 2006. http://boxingtalk.com/pag/article7592.html If Peter Manfredo Jr. beats Jeff Lacy then there is a good chance that Peter's next fight could be for the Super Middleweight Championship of the world! It will be interesting to soo who if any of the "Contenders" will become world champion first. It seems to me that right now anyways, it is between Peter Manfredo Jr. and Ishe Smith who has recently signed with Golden Boy Promotions (Oscar De La Hoya's company which also has Bernard Hopkins and Shayne Mosley as executives). Ishe is scheduled to fight next on the undercard of the WBC Light Middleweight World Championship fight between Oscar De La Hoya and Ricardo Mayorga on May 6th, 2006.
