Trading Spouses, as you may have read on the news page, will be on FOX. It's a rip-off of Trading Moms, appearing on ABC. Have you seen the previews? I saw the previews for Trading Spouses (FOX) and they look hilarious. For certain this is going to be fuel for my Reality TV Has Dangerous Long-Term Effects notion. Anyone planning on watching? ~ cq

I read an article that said Fox blatantly copied the show idea from ABC. That seems pretty low IMO. I won't be watching that fox imposter.

To whoever watched the show, I just have to say that the white woman (Tammy), who thinks she is a mom, needs a reality check; BIG TIME. Who does she think she is? can't she get her big ##### out of bed and make a little breakfast for the children? I mean this is Trading Spouses, not Trading Lazy Asses! And as for the african american lady,(Almea) the real mom, well she deserves all 100,000 not just 50,000.

I agree COMPLETELY! That Tammy woman is a complete flake! She is racist and she doesn't even seem to be aware of it, and she lays around all day acting like a prima donna, like they're supposed to do all the work and she's just supposed dispense what appeared to be some HORRIBLE advice. I also didn't like the way she was so focused on the older daughter's weight-notice she didn't say a word to the overweight BOY....I feel sorry for Althea's family. Althea is a saint compared to that woman, and I know her family had to miss her!

I don't know anything about Trading Spouses, but a friend of mine was "swapped" for Wife Swap on ABC, and I think it is going to be hilarious. All he!! breaks loose when the Mom's get control of the household on the 5th day.

The white lady's name is Tammy and she's married to a Japanese guy and they're loaded! She goes to live at this black couple's house, swapping with the wife, Al Nila, the black lady. I think the show is going to be great. Watching the previews it looks like things are gonna' sort of blow up in a short while. Tammy is used to being waited on hand and foot and is bossy, omg, and Al Nila's kids are getting tired of her real quick. LOL. She's just got to have her coffee, freshly brewed, every morning. (I'm not loaded, but I can relate with her there.) But it's just the way she goes about things, bitchy. She's in for a rude awakening. But I think in the long run it's going to help both families. Tammy - it will help to show her that she doesn't spend enough time with her kids. Her son told Al Nila, when Al Nila was working on a puzzle with him, he said, "My mom would never do this with me. But then I know she's got lots of other things to do." The next shot showed Tammy sitting at the kitchen table in Al Nila's house reading the paper, telling Al Nila's kids that she "wasn't in the MOOD to fix lunch." HA! And Al Nila's husband is being so kind.....for now. LOL. I think he lets her have it down the road. We'll see. It's interesting. I guess I'm just a snoop and that's why I like shows like this. I get it from my Mom, I know I do and I laugh, she died 3 years ago and she is laughing with me. LOL. But she listened to police calls all the time, my brother was a cop for 30 years, so I guess it runs in the family....I'm nosy like my Mom. LOL. But this will show Tammy how good she has it, show her that she needs to spend more time with her kids, and that money isn't the most important thing in the world. And it will also give the black family some money to do some things with, even if it is Tammy's decision. They said Tammy has to decide how the black family will spend their money if they win and they told Al Nila that she has to decide how to spend the money for Tammy's family. Al Nila's family is low-income and they are raising 3 kids (Tammy has 2 kids) with the best of their ability. I think that Tammy will teach Al Nila's family things and vice versa. I just think it will be great for everybody. But I really like Al Nila's family a lot. They are great. And she seems so sweet. Her and Tammy's mother-in-law, who is Japanese and lives with Tammy's family, really hit it off tonight. It's the first show, but they hit it off, each found a new friend they said. They spend lots of time together througout the day and it showed them working out together. I thought it was great!

WOW is that Tammy ever a piece of work! I'm sincerely hoping that that was a lot of creative editing, and that is not an accurate depiction of her. It was hilarious to watch her talk about her positive energy, and then show her doing nothing and being so rude to the kids and family. Does the woman do ANYTHING? Good grief, she can't even make herself a sandwich? SHE has a lot to learn from that family, about manners, resposibility and priorities. Her saving grace is that her husband and kids seem to be wonderful, so perhaps it is a reflection of her (or her mother in law, as she seems to be the one who does everything).
The black lady (I couldnt catch her name) was the epitome of class. She came into that family, pitched in, and spent time with the kids. I don't blame her for being concerned about how to spend the money. That family doesn't need anything. I hope she gives them a small amount to go on a family vacation or something, and then tells them to give the rest to a charity. Perhaps set up a scholarship fund or something. That would be the best way for her to spend the money.
As for Tammy, I hope she tells them to to take a small abount (5,000?) for fun, pay off their debt, and then invest the rest for the kids future education. I think Tammy's priorities are pretty messed up though, so I'm afraid of what she'll do!
I can't wait for next week!

i thought the show was hilarious but tammy needs to be pimp smacked. she is giving a bad name to white women every where. hope she doesnt scar those kids for life. i say we should have a reality show after this where we all get to smack her in the head. she is lazy and bossy. i would run away from home if my mother was like that. tammy if you read these boards, use some of your husbands money and buy a personality.

Amen. That Tammy is off the hook CRAZY. I understand wanting coffee in the morning or whatever but she seems incapable of sucking it up for even a minute. Also, she really seems to believe she is progressive and open minded- and she is so far out of touch with reality she doesn't even realize how stupid and crazy she looks. Pathetic.
Althea is fantastic, she deserves all the money and to spend it however she wants.

Oh, I agree, she had a tougher adjustment. However, she used to be a truck driver in Kentucky, so it's not like she's never lived like that before. Also, rich or poor or in between, there is no reason to act like that. It was apalling! It makes me wonder how she was raised....

Yeah, you are right. No reason for her to act like that. She could of went out and bought her own coffee and cooked a light dinner. She was snobby. She defintely pulled a doctor jeckle mister hyde. This is a re-post my message posted to the wrong place.I really enjoyed the show.
I was thoroughly disgusted with Tammy's behavior. At first I thought she was really nice, until she showed her real self and started complaining about the coffee, then the daughter's weight and eating habits, not wanting to cook etc. Tammy is a princess who is waited on hand and foot by her sweet mother-in-law, so she thought that this new family would also do that. Well,” news flash honey" in the real world the adults take care of the family not the kids. I take my hat off to Amela's husband, I think his name is Anthony, he’s a saint and is really trying to keep his cool and "The Princess" is not making it easy with her constant nagging.
Amela's kids are also trying hard to respect Tammy as a "mother" even though she picks on them and just sits around all day complaining. On the other hand I really like Amela, in the beginning she was awe struck with the Nakamura's house and their lifestyle I thought that was cute, "guess what honey! rich doesn't mean a thing, if you are not nice on the inside". Unlike Tammy, her husband Yuki seems very down to earth. His mother is a wonderful woman, and thank God for her because I don't know what would happen to those kids. Amela and Nana spent time talking, exercising and getting to know each other. Nana, said she was happy to have someone to talk too. Amela also talked to and made a puzzle with the son; my heartache when he said "my mom would never do this with me" I hope my daughter never says something like that about me.
Amela little girl talk with the daughter was sweet and really special. I hope Amela says that Tammy should take the 50k and have her mindset reconditioned. I am certain Tammy would want the Biggin's family to spend their 50k on eating healthier and exercise machines. Let's wait and see...................

Holy carp! Does that woman even hear herself talk? What a frickin piece of work - she's like Randi from Big, Fat Fiance on steriods! She is so disconnected from the real world that it isn't even funny and the worst part is that those poor kids are seeing her as a representative of mid/upper class America. She is lazy, mean, shallow, self-centered, lazy, useless, vain and lazy (did I mention lazy?). She may just be the most despicable person I have seen in the history of reality television.She is going to do something absolutely WORTHLESS for them with that money too. Just you watch - she'll be buying Adkins food, workout equipment and put the rest into a scholarship fund. Yeah, going to school is important - but first you gotta EAT! Al Mela is the best. You just see that she has a wonderful heart and had already spent more time actually LISTENING to Tammy's kids than she did last year. You walk away with so much respect for her and her family and her values. I'm crossing my fingers for you and hope you give all of Tammy's money to charity - I assure you she isn't EARNing it.  Nominating Nana for sainthood....

Can't wait until the next show. The previews for next weeks show looks interesting. Especially when the normally calm cool, perfect, has it all, Japanese American Father looses his cool to show that even calm people with high tolerence all have a "breaking point".

you guys have to watch this, if you aren't already. it's hilarious! the kids the spouses... that tammy! i noticed how she complained to the surrogate daughter that she doesn't eat well, but her *own* son is a fat kid. notice, however, that her daughter is cheerleader-gorgeous. hmmmm... i almost cried when that fat kid son of hers did the puzzle with his 'new mom' and he said his real mom would never do that with him cuz she's much too busy. too busy! to spend time with your kid! ppl like that should have their kids taken away and given to families who will appreciate them. ~ cq

This is the text I sent to the Realitytv.com writers, as I didn't see a story on it.Re: possible Trademark suit Steve Dahl, WCKG Chicago radio DJ, stated on 7/26/04 that he was the first to come up with the show name and was the first to apply for the Trademark rights. The way I understand it is, just like trying to own a "dot-com" name, once you claim it you have to use it. His case is going to be that plans were in motion. He has talked with FOX, who is using it, and they said "so what?". All he feels he needs to do is produce and release the show and then sue them. He's currently negotiating with SPICE channel to produce an adult "Trading Spouces".
Steve is, to me, the inovator of reality entertainment. Howard Stern copied him. Plan's are in the works for a movie recreating the "Disco Demolition" promo he did, blowing up disco records in 1979, forcing the Whie Sox to forfiet the second game of a double header, possibly staring Jack Black as Steve. Steve has been to the preliminary meetings in LA, we'll have to wait and see.
I think you can hear audio archives of entie shows at his web site dahl.com . It will be 7/26/04. His show is from 2pm-7pm, and they were talking about it at around 5pm-6pm, I think. The conversation has much, much more details than I gave here, including him talking with people at NBC and ABC.

Tammy didn't do too bad with the money, but the money to put down on a new house she didn't think about-even with a nice chunk of money down, Al Mela just got laid off, so I imagine that will have to wait until later.
I loved the look on Tammy's face when she saw it was all going to Nana. That was priceless. You could tell she was pissed. And then she comes up with that phony "no one deserves it more"-it was obvious she didn't mean that. I don't think Tammy's kids needed any money. They have everything, I'm sure they have huge college funds etc. They don't seem to want for anything, and I think Nana is taken for granted. I know Nana wants to help out and is a generous person, but I didn't like the way her own son and daughter in law were treating her, so I thought it was awesome that she got the money.
