"Rethink Fantasia"
Okay, let me start by saying I think Fantasia has a wonderful voice, very unique. I think she is talented although personally the squeaky, Macy Gray, lisp (she can't say "S's") rubs me the wrong way. I keep hearing everyone say this girl is going to win.I think she will DEFINATELY make it to the top three-four. I know a lot of people have talked about her attitude being bad, and others defend her by saying "someone needs to talk back and put Simon in his place". As I said in another thread, there is nothing wrong with a little "spunk", but screaming to people in a rude manner when they offer their opinion, repeatedly, if someone says ANYTHING negative??? It's called class. She might be talented but without class, she is guaranteed not to stick around after the competition is over, at least not for the long-term. Ruben and Kelley were as sweet as could be and if Fantasia was representing America as the next upcoming "Star" I would be embarassed. LaToya, Fantasia's big oponent since they have a similar style, is a lady. She, too, is a wonderful singer and she has poise. When she was in the bottom three, sure she could have screamed "That's not right! Ya'll don't know what you are talking about" and carried on, but she simply grimaced, managed to put a smile on her face, and gracefully took her spot. Fantasia is not a lady.

I wish people would give Diana a little more credit. They've made her out to be a "cutesy" youngster who isn't mature enough to handle this competition. She cannot help what video they show of her, or Simon's opinion, which is apparently she can do nothing right. Give her the chance to sing something else, maybe a ballad, and I think America would be shocked at this voice. Okay, so she was a little pageant queen, but many of the pop stars today were raised the same way. She's just good at what she does, which is sing, and she has a very good attitude. You don't see her getting in Simon's face. Look at the overall package: young, attractive, talented, good attitude, and always listens to the judges constructive criticism to improve.

I hope Diana wins, with George and LaToya right behind her. I would be proud for any of these three to represent America. If Fantasia was the idol, I would be scared what would come out of her mouth, her HUGE mouth might I add, to any critic offering their opinion about her.

I agree about Diana. I don't think she gets enough credit. And for Latoya to be in the bottom 3 last night is just ridiculous!

BUT..........................
BIG BUT.....................................

I don't understand where people get this idea that Fantasia has such a bad attitude. I think people mistake her southern, street attitude as "having an attitude problem". I am from North Carolina as well and Fantasia to me is a seems like a country, sweet girl. She's just to the point at times, but I would hardly say she doesn't have any class. You didn't hear people talking trash about Matt Rogers when he was threatening to cause bodily harm on Simon. Or that stupid brat Leah Labelle when she cried every time someone criticized her gut wrenching singing. The only time I've ever seen Fantasia really say anything negative was the night that Simon was critical of her and he really was WRONG. And even then, she just kind of laughed it off. I would hardly say she was being negative. She even said in a recent interview that he was her favorite judge because he was the most honest. So, I think maybe these folks saying that she has an attitude problem might be wise to check themselves. And about her mouth (looks)...I think no one has any right to judge her looks when America voted for that dork Clay Aiken last year as runner up.

NORTH CAKALAKI REPRESENTIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like Fantasia. I think she will make it to the Top 3. I don't mind her attitude at all.

I also think that Diana and La Toya are good singers, but they are just bland for me. I guess it all boils down to preference.

Having said that, I think that the final 3 (fan-base wise) would be Fantasia, JPL and Jasmine. I'm really hoping though that Camile would finally actualize her potentials before she gets eliminated. I really like this girl!

Clay or the dork as you so elegantly put it, is rich and talented you should be so lucky. I thought about it again, since you said we should "check ourselves" and guess what? I still think her attitude blows. You also helped prove my point, the night (meaning the ONE TIME) Simon made a negative comment to her (which he was right about) she went off and made herself look like a jerk, just like Leah did, and where is she now? Exactly. It was obvious Matt was joking, the time that he spent on the show, not once was he anything but nice to anyone.

i agree with you. Fantasia should only go up to top 3 or 4. America cannot handle more than 1 Macy Gray.
Diana, for me, has got a lot of talent. But she is not polished yet. She needs a lot of training in terms of singing , performance, etc. While she can easily handle high notes, her voice is ugly and trembling and flat at lower notes. This she showed during her last 2 performances.
Diana also needs to learn how to choose thew right song. Last Tuesday's choice was terrible terrible. I guess she just tried to follow-through with Simon's advice to connect to the audience. And she did it but the outcome was horrible. I think she did worse than AMy or JPL or Camille last Tuesday.
I am for LATOYA ( and Jasmine) because she is the most talented in the group with a great personality and poise and maturity and a not so bad countenance.

I was not a fan of her Macy Gray voice at first, but I have to admit she can hit those notes and is always in tune.

I found myself starting to be swayed by her when she did "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" this week. It had less of a Macy Gray sound to it and I think she's been working on those S's. (But let's not talk about that taco sweater... )

I agree that she should back off on the attitude a little bit when Simon makes one of his patently outrageous comments. She should just smile and say, "Thank You Simon!" I think he does it on purpose just to elicit some kind of wild response from the contestants.

Slowly losing my newbie status... I hope...

7. "RE: Rethink Fantasia"
Alright, when I said she has a HUGE mouth, let me emphasize that it's not like I would not vote for her because of it. Looks aren't everything. I don't really understand the Clay criticism because they ended up doing a total makeover and making him look really good, although personally not attracted..his voice is what had me hooked.

I, too, am from the South. I know what Southern people are like, and the fact it has been stated "she doesn't have an attitude problem" just stumps me. EVERY single show, whether it's positive or negative, she is literally yelling at the top of her lungs saying "That's right! That's right!" or "Well that's your opinion!" Or "I told ya'll!"..sonmething along those lines. I agree Simon might say a comment to get some of the contestants riled up. Justin Guarini certainly did it, I believe he started the trend by doing so, but it earned him a place in the bottom three the following week and he publicly made an apology on the show on National TV because that is just now how an Idol acts. Look at the definition of an "idol": someone so influencial they inspire others to follow in their footsteps and set an example for the youth of America. (that is a quote by the way. What is going to happen, if say Fantasia does win...everyone will start backtalking everyone, be obnoxious, and cause a lot of problems when authority is used on them. I do like Fantasia..good voice, terrible sense of style, but I don't think they pick the outfits. I'm just saying a true "lady" is dignified, poised, etc..it's okay to be outspoken and voice an opinion, although there is a time and place. Each week on national TV is not the place. I think she is using it to draw attention to herself. If she acted like she had some class, I might be rooting for her. I also read "it's just her ghetto southern style" or something to that nature. I know many people of all classes of southern society, including "ghetto" whatever class that falls in. Camile is ghetto, a little bit of attitude, although she shows restraint. I DO NOT LIKE CAMILE in this, that's not what I'm saying, but it's okay to be a Diva with an attidue without coming across obnoxious and rude to America. I think it gives a bad name to the South to say that's just the "Southern Diva" coming out in her. Also, someone pleeease make her stop this "Yea Yea Yea" thing at the end..I can't handle it..she would have been WONDERFUL the other night had she not done that...that might be the evangelist coming out in her (again no offense, power to her), but that's gotta chill a little.

The comments about Diana: I'm not hearing the flat notes on the lower parts. I agree a couple of bad song choices, but I think each one has had one or two of those, or at least will before it's over. I think she will change up her song selections to not be labelled as "cutesy" in weeks to come. All I'm saying is give her a chance.

In response to your "lady" criticism...

Is there really any ideal "lady" anymore in this day in age? I don't think someone should have to keep their mouth shut or act a certain way because of their gender. Yes, Fantasia is loud. I can see where some people may take her wrong and say she is obnoxious. But people like Britney Spears who are fake are way more obnoxious than someone like Fantasia. Either way, I think with her it's either you love her or you hate her. My Mom and Dad can't stand her but my husband and I think she's the best on the show. Her voice reminds me of one of the soulful old voices of the 60's and 70's that you hear. Regardless, I apologize if I made you mad. I DO respect your opinion. I just have a hard time seeing how her attitude could really cause that much commotion in the music industry. Most goos muscicians are bold and out there, so I don't see how she could make so many waves.

And as for Clay, they gave him a makeover, but it didn't help. He still looks like a dork and now he has the attitude of Rupaul. He is such a butt pirate. I'm ashamed to say I come from the same state and attended the same college as he did.

9. "RE: Rethink Fantasia"
Well, let's remember it IS just a TV show, so of course I'm not going to get mad about it! Everyone should justify themselves and their reasonings behind saying certain things. I'm going to let the Clay thing go since that was "so last season" and I LOVE Clay..all I have to say is HAHA he's sold nearly three times the # of records as Ruben, so Simon was right, the real American Idol became obvious from record sales.

The comment about "what is a 'lady' this day and age?" I find that really sad people are searching for the definition of a "lady". I love different personalities, and I too, am a loud person! I just can't seem to keep my mouth shut because I love talking, so me and Fantasia do have that in common. There are several attibutes that immediately come to mind when trying to define a "lady": respectful of others and oneself, poise, class, charm, on this show talent, and beauty (particularly inner beauty). Now does every pop star have each of these qualities? Certainly not. Brittney definately let me down with her new "wild" image she has created. People notice that too, and in ten years, everyone will be saying "Brittney who?" Same with others. Let's look at Beyonce now,as well as Mandy Moore, etc.. They are all trendy, talented (in many people's eyes), set an example, and have class. I just wish Fantasia would fall into this category. I didn't say "someone should have to keep their mouth shut because of their gender" at all! I'm glad she has some "spunk" and it's okay to comment on something as I said at the right TIME AND PLACE. It is every time she's on the show she's yelling to the audience, "raising the roof" (wow haven't said that in years) or saying "What ya'll think!"...I just wish she could interact with the audience through her performances, which she does a very good job of, instead of her comments and attitude. If JPL (not a fan of him either) was constantly making loud, obnoxious comments in a desparate cry to get attention, I would say he needs to act like a "gentleman". Noone has to keep their mouth shut all the time in order to earn respect! Respect is earned through performances, a positive attitude and fun-loving nature that draws people in.."Star Quality" if you will..Fantasia has the first of the three down but that's as far as it goes in my opinion.

Wow! Why such distain for Clay? What did he ever do to make you dislike him so much? I have seen him on tons of TV programs, and he has been nothing more than a gentleman. I also had the pleasure of seeing him in concert and he was very entertaining. I just love the guy! Rupaul? I don't think so!

As for Fantasia, she has a terrible attitude. Last season Simon would cut Clay's performance to pieces, and he would handle his comments with a grace and smile. That is how a true entertainer handles not so good reviews. Unlike Fantasia, who had to purse her huge lips, fold her arms, and rotate her head. "You don't know what class is", she must have been speaking to her self. I don't think that now is the time to show her bad attitude, she is trying to win the votes of America. With an attitude like that, she most likely will not win, no matter how great a performer, singer she is. I certainly will note vote for her.

When Simon was a guest on Oprah during last season, Oprah commented on how she felt one of the contestants was rude in her reply to Simon. Simon explained that he (the show) encourages the singers to have a comeback ready for Simon. He admitted it makes better T.V. So lay off Fantasia. I'm no fan, but at least she's not A.) Boring or B.) Annoying. I would take her any day over that big goof-George Huff. Is there a number to call to vote people off? That's what they should do next year to make the show interesting, let America vote for those they want to leave each week.

I really do like Fantasia, Macy Gray voice and all. I like her fiesty attitude. I believe that this is just the person that she is as was reflected in her "package." She's the kinda woman that I wouldn't mind hanging out with 'cuz it would be joke after joke and a lot of verbal sparring. But then again, I'm the person that defended Heidi's use of curse words on The Apprentice, so what do I know. I guess I just have thicker skin and a much more cynical sense of humor. But, I can definitely see that it rubs a lot of people the wrong way and I do agree that she should think about toning it down a bit. Sometimes you have to compromise yourself to win.

As for Diana DeGarmo, she just needs to dress better. Stop putting her in those god awful full skirts. They make her look fat. She really needs a fashion consultant, but then so do Fantasia, Jennifer and Camille. I am really tired of seeing Camille's belly hanging out every week. She looks like she shops at Walmart and dresses in the dark. I think that Fantasia's taco-outfit looked horrible last week, but it was in response to Simon's old lady comment the week before. She needs to find a classy middle ground.

I think Fantasia is misunderstood. A lot of people don't get that she's just being playful and it does seem like it's just the image or "package" as you say that she chooses to present.

I love Diana (she's my favorite) but she actually does seem a little bit chubby, it's not just the clothes. Now, she's only 16 and I don't think she should go on a diet or anything, she can stay just the way she is, but she's not a toothpick. Just a fact.

If you look at the way Kimberly Locke dresses you will see a great example of a woman with a healthy body image and a style to match. But she didn't always dress so well, she learned as the season went along. I hope Diana gets to stay around long enough to learn how to appreciate her body and dress with style.

Not necessarily talking about Diana, just observations at the mall....a lot of the cropped styles make girls with very nice figures look overweight.

It's no secret that my favorite to win is LaToya. HOWEVER...

I enjoy the heck out of Fantasia. I think she's a talented singer and entertainer. I hope she does well in this competition.

Do you all remember Vanessa from last year? She was the first finalist to be voted off. I suspect it's because she did such a GOOD acting job when reading the cue cards after her musical performance. Seacrest invited her over for the traditional post-song mini-chat. Her final comment was an apparently disrespectful comment to Ryan. It was obvious (to me, anyway) that Vanessa was just reading what she'd been asked to read. But I think viewers perceived her as being b!tchy, and they voted her off.

Well, I think the producers are trying to do the same thing with Fantasia. They realize she has a vibrant personality, and they're trying to play off of that. I think some viewers are mistaking Fantasia's "attitude" with something that's being somewhat scripted to get a reaction.

It seems to be working. We're all talking about her, aren't we?

I DOUBT that everything they say is a script, also we're all talking about Jon Stevens and Camille also, do you think the producers had anything to do with that?

You're talking apples and oranges, shedevil.

Talent has nothing to do with attitude. And in my opinion, JPL and Camille are two of the least-talented performers. Whereas (again, in my opinion) Fantasia from this year and Vanessa from last year are two powerfully talented singers with loads of personality.

Furthermore, I am not implying that everything the singers do is scripted. However we've seen that the judges and producers and even Seacrest himself sometimes attempt to skew things a certain way.

I've read the responses to my original post and wanted to add a couple of things. Karennz-you remarked, "talent has nothing to do with attitude." I do agree with this statement. However, we are talking about an IDOL, a person that will represent America world-wide as the new undiscovered "star" our country has voted the BEST of America. If it was simply a competition on who should get a record contract, I agree Fantasia is not out of the question. As far as representing America though!? This show DOES have to take into account attitude! I will not disagree with the fact she is talented, but if she was to compete in a future "world idol" I would be sooo embarassed if she was like "You just don't know what class is!" for the rest of the world to see!! Any of the other contestants, aside from possibly Jennifer, would EVER degrade themself or who they represent by such "attitude". It has been said over and over that viewers need to consider the "whole package of star quality". If Christina Aguillera was overly "mouthy" and "put critics in their place", do you really think she would be successful?

Yes, Fantasia has managed to get all of us talking about her. But can't that be a bad thing?? We were all talking about Nikki from the first season of AI, but it certainly wasn't positive comments that were being said! The difference: Fantasia can sing. If she simply reserved SOME of her commments and kept them to herself, she would be a strong contender for the finals, as far as my vote goes. Meanwhile, Latoya, Diana and George (even though Diana is a mere 16 yrs. old) they graciously take the constructive criticism of the judges, and try to make their next performance that much better. Although Fantasia is maintaining a good voice in some opinions (although the screeching and "yea yea yea's" at the end are killing my ears!)she can't accept ANY kind of criticism. She just won't have it! That does not entitle someone to be an American Idol. I hope the youth of America, as corny as that sounds, would never DREAM of acting like her where all the world can see. Can you imagine the reputation of our country!?! Obnoxious "back talkers" who can't take any criticsm whatsoever. Rather embarassing if you ask me!
P.S. Go Diana (George in a close second, Latoya right behind him). I would take pride in any one of these three representing us, that's for sure!

No I don't think I am talking apples and oranges but I think you forgot what you said either that or you should make your point clearer because it sounded like you were saying it was scripted to me.

29. "NO APOLOGY HERE"
Well, I said I would post a public apolgy on these boards if Fantasia pulled off an Elton John song...and guess what? she did not! HOWEVER, (oh hush and don't kill me yet), she was certainly one of the BETTER ones last night (not saying much). I think she should've chosen a different song, because the raspy voice wasn't cutting it last night. I almost passed out when Simon actually made a NEGATIVE remark about her last night. But it was the truth, she was screeching parts of it. The dress wasn't flattering, the earrings needed to go, and JUST AS I PREDICTED, the damn "yea yea yea" thing happened at the end of this song just like every other time!!! That RUINED the freakin song, but at least it didn't go on and on quite so much as in past weeks. I did not know she had a kid. Although there is nothing wrong with that whatsoever, probably not the best time to bring it up because it threw me for a loop. For some reason I think that might have a slight impact since the typical American Idol is young and preferably single. But look at Latoya, love her to death and she's married with two! (stepchildren though)..Doesn't matter to me, I'm just saying, some more conservative voters might not like that. AND TO PROVE MY POINT ONCE AGAIN, she of course made some smart ##### comment after Simon gave his remarks. It kills me..this girl ALWAYS HAS to get in the last word. Honey, take some lessons from Latoya. That girl has her beat hands down on personality, voice and attitude. She's really hurting herself by continuing the behavior.

Now I just can't wait to hear Fantasia attempt Barry Manilow...hahahaha "Mandy, yea yea yea yea yea"

I really want to like Fantasia. I love her as a performer. She's unique, edgy, confident...But that attitude. When the judges give her compliments, she is all smiles. But let Simon make one negative remark about her, she turns in a drama queen. I wnat to like her. But Simon makes negative comments about everyone. Actually, Fantasia has gotten off real easy compared to the other contestants. So, why have this "flip and foul" attitude. I really want to like her but she needs to take notes from Jasmine and take the judges comments more gracefully.

Fantasia is a fantastic performer and one of the most original idol contestants left on the show. She does have a spunk that definitely comes across as attitude and she should tone that down if she can to stay around. That's why she was in the middle three as opposed to the top three last night.

I do however think that she gets along with Simon in general and that part of their working relationship is to toy with each other. She will make comments about Simon's criticism, but I truly think that some of it is in jest (though it's clear that she thinks she's doing well). Simon will continue to give her criticism because she strives to be her best and he believes in her and doesn't want her (or any of them) to become complacent at this stage. She may not have had her best night on Tuesday, but man that girl is a performer and all she needs is a bit of humility and I think she got that last night standing in between the two John's, who can't even shine her shoes.

At least she's not boring like some of the others now and in the past.

The one thing that stood out to me was when everyone else joined their "group" there was some acknowledgement , ie hugs, pats on back, shaking of hands. When Fantasia joined JPL and Red there was nothing from anyone. Seemed odd to me to the lack of support between the contestants.

How were JPL and John supposed to do anything? She walked to them and stood in front of them with her back to them (which is what she's been doing to the fans also). She has no respect for anyone. Period.

FANTASHIA IS THE BUMB!!! THERE IS NO STOPPING HER NOW, WHETHER ON THE IDOL OR IN JUST THE WORLD ARENA OF TALENT SHE'S ON RECORD IN THE UNIVERSE AS BEING JUST SIMPLY GREAT WITH THE MOST UNIQUE STYLE.
I'M NOT SAYING THAT SHE'S GONNA WIN IDOL, BECAUSE SOME HOW THE SYSTEM HAS ADOPTED OTHER STANDARDS OF JUDGING TALENT RATHER THAN THE EXSCLUSIVE DISPLAY OF RAW TALENT, BUT I ASSURE YOU THAT WHEN I SPEND MY MONEY ON A CD/DVD I WANT THE REAL DEAL SOMETHING THAT SOUNDS GOOD TO ME AND MAKES ME FEEL GOOD, BUT DIFFERENT STROKES FOR DIFFERENT FOLKS, I'M NOT BUYING LIPS, CLOTHES,ATTITUDES. OR SEXUAL ORIENTATION JUST GOOD SOUNDS. THEY CAME TO BE THE AMERICAN IDOL THEY'D BETTER BRING IT CAUSE BABY IT'S ALL REAL HERE, ANYTHING ELSE IS HYPOCRACY, AND WILL HAVE A SHORT LIFE SPAN.

Where is it written that each contestant has to act in a certain way? Respond to criticism in a certain way? Could she stand there with a big plastic smile on her face when Simon goes off, sure she could. But that's not her personality, obviously. It's not mine either. I'd have something to say to him, too, and I am not classless, ghetto or any of the other things used to describe her. Several people have said that they don't want her "representing" them as an American Idol. Is she running for President? Give me a break. She isn't representing America, she's a contestant on a TV show. Does Rueben represent America? Considering that nearly 60% of adults in this country are obese, then, yeah, I guess he does represent us. See? It's absurd. All of the idols past have put out average (at best) albums and I think we should be happy to have some diversity in attitude, vocal style, looks, etc. not just with Fantasia, but with all of them. I mean no disrespect to anyone on this board...in case anyone gets butt hurt about anything.

She is representing America if she wins because it is called "American Idol", just like she would be representing Australia if she won on "Australian Idol". In my opinion it doesn't matter if that's "how she is" I'm a sarcastic person but not when it is inappropriate. I don't go to church and enlighten people with my snappy comebacks just because I'm good at them or because it's the way I am. Why? because I know that there is a time and place for everything, and Fantasia just doesn't get that. I don't have to see it written in a rule book that I should respect people. If I was in a contest and there were judges, I wouldn't need to see it in writing that I shouldn't act like a 5 year old and backtalk the judges. Anyone thinking they're too good to handle criticism, now that's absurd. Just my opinion.

Hi ya'll!

I wanted to put in my two or three cents in as well. I think that Fantasia has a wonderful voice, but what makes less appealing to me is her lack of being humble. She knows her voice rocks, but she doesnt have the quiet confidence that George has. His voice melts, and he genuinly doesnt know how good he is...thats appealing.
GO GEORGE!!!!!!!!!!
Hope everyone is doing well, havent been around like I would hope to be, but I wish everyone well!!
