LAST EDITED ON 12-09-11 AT 12:53 PM (EST)Something of interest for us on the left coast -- we will get the rare opportunity of seeing a totally eclipsed moon and the sun at the same time. The moon will still be in totality as it sets around 6:42am, but with sunrise at 6:40, there will be a short window when both are visible. The only catch is being in a place with a clear view of each horizon.
(FYI - The next total lunar eclipse visible from the UK will be 28 Sept. 2015)

I'm really hoping for a clear night for this. It has been cold but clear as a bell for the last few weeks. Usually we have tons of fog now.

Caught the end of it this morning ...With about 80% of the moon in shadow, it looked just like a big toothy grin, with the very bottom still brightly illuminated and the rest a pale burnt orange. Sadly, clouds (plus a bank of apartment buildings) along the western horizon obscured the totality phase.
