"school of rock and national treasure"
have y'all seen these movies? I've seen scenes from both of them (my team's weekly meeting always features a movie) but not the whole thing.

anyway - is there anything inappropriate in them for say the under 10 set? I want movies for the girls to watch at an upcoming slumber party, and I won't have time to watch either before then, but these two are what has been requested. so iffy conduct? any plot points to difficult for kids to follow (doubtful in School of Rock I know)

I read reviews on them and they don't seem to have anything questionable in them. but I thought I'd ask y'all just in case.

thanks ever so much.

"School of Rock" is a fun movie and I don't remember anything very objectionable. Not anything that under 10's would understand anyway.

"National Treasure" is good, too, but I don't think under-10's would get it. They haven't had enough American history yet.

I haven't seen School of Rock, but there isn't really anything inappropriate in National Treasure. In fact, one of our social studies teachers is showing it in class this week. (We're in SOL testing so our schedule is all screwed up - it's almost pointless to teach when you only see half your students.)

there might be some bad language in School of Rock- I don't remember- I didn't like it- but it's kind of cute

National Treasure has some brief violence- being shot at from a moving car- but it's pretty harmless- I really liked that one

I think both are easy to follow

LAST EDITED ON 05-26-05 AT 04:09 PM (EST)

I let my kids watch both Pooh. They really enjoyed both movies. I was a bit worried about School of Rock, but some of it just went over my daughter's head. I would much prefer she watch these two movies instead of Mean Girls or 13 going on 30.

My 8 year old daughter has seen both. She enjoyed School of Rock way more than National Treasure but she humored my Nicholas Cage fascination and watched the entire movie with me.

I do seem to remember a few minor "bad" words in School of Rock but nothing too horrible.

School of Rock should be okay. I liked it. Jack Black rules!!

Haven't seen NT tho, It's number one on my queue but stoopid Netflix says it's still a long wait before I can see it...

*glares at Wheezy and Tech*

Yet, I got "The Aviator" coming today and it was nominated for Best Picture, go figure.

School of Rock was amazingly infectious. There is not a single unpredictable scene and yet the cast, headed by the splendid Jack Black but also including Joan Cusak and some great, not-horribly-cute-but-more-natural-type kids, was terrific. I can't remember anything in it that was questionably appropriate, except maybe a word or two...not even sure there was profanity. Plus it's exhilerating!

National Treasure--watched this a few weeks ago, and my 8 and 11 year-old kids loved it. I saw nothing that I'd consider objectionable, and my kids saw/heard history stuff they knew (Liberty Bell, Paul Revere's ride) as well as some stuff they didn't know, but they loved learning about it. It's good. I liked it too. And it's suspenseful.

Plus? Jon Voigt. Every kid should see a Jon Voigt movie.

School of Rock is a good one for kids. I think there are a few obscure drug references, but under 10s wouldn't get it. At least I hope they wouldn't get it. National Treasure reminded me of Goonies, except with adults. Nothing objectionable that I can think of.

When I was working at Blockbuster, a lady asked me if School of Rock had any "rebellious behavior" in it because she didn't want her seven year old to get any ideas.

Saw School of Rock a while back, and I don't remember anything objectionable. My girls liked it. It was cute.
We just saw National Treasure two days ago, and they LOVED it. They're 9 and 7, by the way. I'm currently finishing up my Masters in Elementary Education, and just finished a big project on Benjamin Franklin that my kids got really involved in. There were MANY Franklin references in the movie, so they were all excited. I had to explain some stuff to the 7-year old, but she kept up with it for the most part. I'd recommend it.

Saw National Treasure the other night. I thought it was very good and certainly not objectionable but I am not sure younger children would like it very much.

Saw and liked them both. But I'm not a good judge when it comes to letting kids watch movies. They were okay for a 38 year old kid.

I liked both of these movies and I can't remember anything objectionable for the under 10 set. This from someone who doesn't watch R rated movies.

Sometimes, we even have to turn off the PG 13, but these 2 movies are pretty good, IMO.
