Who was where? They were all at the same place at the same time, what else was there to show? This was a BAD Episode, might as well have just dropped them off at the soccer field and have them run to the pitsop.
Heave would have cheated and lost, and all teams would be within 30 Minutes.

LAST EDITED ON 10-24-02 AT 11:29 AM (EST)This was THE best episode EVER! The race became neck and neck and the editing reflected that. Great ending too! My only regret is that they couldnt eliminate both teams. I was wondering too what Momily was thinking when Heave only got a 30 minute (plus time saved) penalty for taking the wrong transportation. Agreed - good close episode, no chance to see it coming in spoilers - AND....you are so right Esbea!! Only a 30 minute penalty?? Given the chances of getting lost in the dark on foot if they had gone back (which any law-abiding, err, lawyers -should have done), they were lucky to have the dignity of getting only 30 minutes (still too much, ha ha). Phil, so clinical and cool while delivering the verdict, to the 2 teams on plastic chairs, with a smirking Aarionne. Nice to see him do something un-rehearsed. Teri and Ian are still in - no matter how much he gets on my nerves (who stood and watched while Mrs rolled the wine barrel????), we all need a team to bash. Ian's it. Roll on Episode 5.............

30 minutes is the standard penalty, on top of the time actually saved. Phil said that they saved "at least 7 minutes," bringing the penalty to at least 37 minutes. Since 37 minutes was enough to eliminate them, it didn't matter. I think if the time difference between the teams had been greater, they would have taken a closer look at exactly how much time to penalize them.I love your observation of the plastic chairs and the un-rehearsed Phil. I thought it was strange to heard him stumbling over his words. Strider

still...just to rehash something that is totally "unfixable", theres no way that taking that cab could have given Momily a 24 hour advantage over the other teams."The trouble with the rat race is that even if you win, youre still a rat"

Yeah... the detour was to either take the bus, or find a car. They did neither, and that means they did not complete the detour, and BOOM, 24 hour penalty. I guess you can compare what Heave did to what Frank and Margarita and the Guidos did when they were instructed to take a train to some place in Italy (I think), but they ended up getting off the train halfway, and taking a cab the rest of the way. I think they got a penalty of about a half hour or so each.

The bottom line is that Nancy and Emily knew they didn't properly complete the Detour, whereas Frank/Margarita and Joe/Bill didn't realize they'd done something wrong until after they checked in.I don't think Heather and Eve knew they were breaking the rules by taking the cab. Which is even more pathetic than if they'd flat-out decided to cheat. Chris

"I don't think Heather and Eve knew they were breaking the rules by taking the cab. Which is even more pathetic than if they'd flat-out decided to cheat." See, therein lies the difference, I DO think that they knew they were breaking the rules. As Phil said, the glossary that they were given defines "walk" as "travel by foot"(as if someone would NEED that defined! and yeah, I know that its not strictly "walking, they could run or hop on one foot if they wanted to). Its also evident that they realized that when they stopped the cab and told him to go back. Its also a bunch of crap that they keep blaming everyone but themselves. I think they thought they could tear up or use their "feminine wiles" to wriggle out of it. Im glad it didnt work."The trouble with the rat race is that even if you win, youre still a rat"

To just go along for the ride and see what was happening it was an exciting show and edited well. It was an ignorance is bliss enjoyment. If you actually cared how the teams were doing and were watching to see the spacing and where everyone was in relation to each other then the show was horrible. I was worried about my AE game and wondering where everyone was in relation to everyone esle and had no clue. Also, I miss the short dialogue that happens when they show the map going from one city to the other and stating who is on which plane.

Actually, this time I paid attention to departure times, so that I knew for instance that JV&J were three hours behind the first bunch of teams. With the early teams leaving around 11pm, JV&J leaving at about 2am and the last two teams at 5:30am (approx), the inter-splicing of teams at the same spot who were actually way apart from each other is to my mind TAR's version of using editing to foreshadow the fact that the teams would be so close by the end. Strider made exactly the point I was going to make. The Andre & Damon team for example, was not eliminated but their advantage was calculated so that they received a 48 minute advantage penalty in addition to the 30 minute standard penalty. A 24 hour penalty has to be impossible to make up, even if you have a non-elim ep ahead of you, you'd still be so far behind that you'd get eliminated the next time there is an elim ep. How long did Nancy & Emily last with their 24 hour penalty? Were they gone the next ep?
