"Quick Question"
I've gotten no response to my latest TAR3 summaries, which are in the same thread as the Ep 1 summary.

Have you looked at them and hated them, or been bored?

Or is that you don't realize that Eps 2 and 3 are in the same thread as Ep 1?

Feedback, whether neg or pos, will be appreciated. If you don't care for my stuff, I won't take up further space posting it.

If it's confusing (or time-consuming to load) if they're in the same thread, I'll break them apart and post new threads for each ep in future.

Amai-

Since you asked a blunt question I will give a blunt answer:

Not that you are not allowed to write your own summaries, but before the season, the Webmasters picked who would be the "official Summary writers".

I look forward to reading the "Official Summary", and even have been scheduled to write my own.

I know they are time consuming to read, so I only pick one to read, and I have chosen to make it the official one by the selected writer each week.

I might be alone in thinking that, but it's my 2 cents.

I guess we don't realize you have more than one summary in the same post. Please don't stop posting them though. I think they are absolutely hilarious

I agree! Even though there are "official" posters of summaries, I enjoy your "take" on each episode too! Please don't stop. Since each "official" summary writer works on only 1 episode, we get a variety views, but having a single reviewer of all of the works well too, especially with your humor.

AMAI-I think your TAR summaries are a hoot! When it comes to summaries, I like to read all of them, because each writer brings their own sense of humor to the boards.

I didn't realize you had summarized Ep. 3 in the same thread until I read this. So, I had to go back and read it, very funny. I can see that thread getting really long, though, if you keep posting each Ep. in it. I would suggest another thread for each summary you post. I think some people may not have the time to read through all the summaries at once, so they may just skip it alltogether. Just my thoughts, though. I don't care where the summaries are, I'll enjoy them.

Thanks to Schnookie Palookie, VA Slim and L82LIFE for being complimentary and encouraging - I will take care to post future summaries in sep. threads. L82Life, I know we share the same view on multiple summaries - there just aren't enough, are there? I could read one a day, if there were but enough folks willing to do it!! I have enjoyed SilverGirl's, Drawde's, Pepe's, and will look forward to enjoying everyone else's who is willing to take a turn at writing a 'cap and making jokes.

So, thanks also to ELCinOhio for being blunt. It helps me to understand why there might be resentment. I'm sorry to hear of your ruffled feather, but rest assured I would not have begun posting if I'd not cleared it with AyaK first.

I hope that knowing some folks like more, and some like less, we'll get along - and you'll be happy to hear from me when I post thank you's on your turn at being Official Summary Writer.

Amai,

I didn't say you ruffled any feathers, you asked a blunt question, I gave an honest answer. I wish I had more time to read up on threads here, as well as other boards, and off topic. I just have to be selective. Keep posting away, and I think many others in this thread have given you encouragement.

Plus I know how hard it is to do 1 summary, I couldn't imagine doing one a week.

As you know, this board is pretty adamant about NOT being exclusionary! Everyone is welcome to write a summary. I don't think it takes away from the "official" summary at all to have someone else post one.

I try to get to them all - sometimes, more successfully than others.

Maybe you should start a new thread for each one - I think it's probably more of an oversight and not a slight if they aren't getting noticed.

I'm writing the "official" summary this week, and I think it'd be great to have a summary by you up too!

I'll add that you haven't responded to my summary either! Funny of you to make a comment like this and not respond to our summary writers... you did make a very brief comment to Fester's summary but none to CanadaGirl's.

Not getting my shorts into a knot at all, just stating the obvious.

I just haven't been in a posting mood lately due to time pressures of my job in the last week or so as many others have noticed already by asking where I've been.

I'm sorry - I thought I had - but I did read it and it was good.

So now I know - you read them, get distracted, or more likely, forced to do some work, and never get back to post appreciation.

I will be diligent and post appreciation all around.

Apologies for the oversight, Pepe & CanadaGirl.

AMAI, I have read all 3 of your summaries. They are great. Please do NOT stop posting them.

I do see a problem though. Your posting the summary in the same thread makes the thread huge and gives no indication that the thread has a new summary posted.

I suggest you post each summary in a different thread.

Hon, you know from Survivor Bashers that I'm a fan. RL has kept me from getting as into TAR stuff this year as I would like. I'll work on catching up.

And as Lisapooh pointed out, unofficial summaries are welcome here. The topic's been debated a few times, but the basic conclusion is that you can never have too much humor.

14. "RE: Quick Question"
AMAI, I enjoyed your summaries and as many other posters have said, I'd really prefer it if you start a new thread with each new summary.

I must admit that I don't read all the summaries that were posted because there are just too many summaries on the board and it'd be too time consuming to read all of them. Hence I can emphatize with ElCinOhio and many other official summary writers who felt short-changed when the unofficial summaries vie for the readers' limited time and attention. However, I do not think that it'd be fair for the bluemen(&woman) to limit the amount of summaries on the board because I'm happy that I have the ability to read a wide perspective of opinions on an episode instead of just one person's perspective.

I also find it a great pity that some readers have chosen to boycott unofficial summary writers by not reading their summaries at all. The unofficial summary writers have taken a lot of time too to write their summaries and a lot of these happen to be great summaries as well. Rather than having so many readers boycotting the unofficial summary writers, I hope we can all come to an amicable decision on the issue so my one suggestion for the unofficial summary writers is to try to keep their summary shorter than the official summary. It is a form of respect to the official writers and in this way, unofficial summary writers will still get their chance to shine. Of course this is just a suggestion and each writer can write as long a summary as he/she wants, but I think it's fairer that the official summary writers to get most of the spotlight and most of the readers' time since they are the ones who were picked to write the summaries after all.

ShowMeTheWinner - I could try editing them I suppose - but what usually has happened is that when I get to posting over here, it gets longer, cuz I see more jokes and add them in.

Have any of you checked out a site called TWoP? Miss Alli's recaps for TAR are sooooooooooo long that mine seem like a quick-march rush through the show. That woman doesn't miss an eyeblink! Very funny, and very very very detailed. She catches everything.

ElCin, you just sounded a little ruffled, my apologies if I misinterpreted. In any event, you may be further astounded to learn that I do a recap for Survivor as well, which is also posted on these boards in that forum.

I am a relative newcomer here, but I'm also trying to get involved in the other threads, and I read ALL summaries - I love them. I'm even starting to read Miss Alli's summaries for BB3, and I'll be working my way through her backlog. She's a new inspiration.

I just want to say thanks again to all who responded, and from now on, I'll start a new thread and I'll see what I can do about making them shorter.

But here's what I do - I print them out. They make great reading to & from work, or while in the can. Hell, I even read when I'm walking around at work! It is a very long way between buildings.

Coincidentally, I had just read your summaries when I found this thread.

My vote is for you to keep doing the summaries, but please put each in it's own thread. I have a slow modem, so very long threads are agony.

Starving ButStrong - I will break them out - I realize it won't help you NOW -- but for others whose modems are slower - over the next day or so I'll break up the big threads, both here & in the Survivor forum, and create an individual thread for each summary.

For those who like to read summaries - like me - I feel pretty sure it will be worth the effort. Hey I'll go back and read old summaries if they're new to me.

You guys are great - I'm really liking this place

The fact that you were piggy backing it on your TAR 1 summary had some of us simpletons confused.

19. "RE: Quick Question"
I posted almost the exact same words on Survivor Bashers when the topic of "unofficial" summaries came up over there. I'm gonna post my thoughts here, too, because I think my perspective on alternate summaries has changed fairly sigfnificantly since taking on the new job, and because the same thoughts that applied there apply here, and I don't that everyone who reads this forum reads that one.

I think the more quality summaries we have for each show, the better. It makes TARSucks look like the thriving front-running TAR site that it is. I haven't looked around at other sites THAT much, but I don't recall ever seeing a site that boasted multiple summaries per episode. And I think it's pretty damned cool that we have as many talented writers turning them out as we do.

My thinking on "official" summaries has changed somewhat recently, probably because I have to worry now about making sure every episode of every show has at least one summary. From my vantage point, the main reason we schedule summary writers is to make sure that no episode goes unrepresented. For every episode of every reality TV show that we cover, we work to ensure that there will be a summary. Scheduling "official" writers doesn't preclude other people from writing them. When I was a summary writer not charged with ensuring summaries existed for each show, I felt differently, that other people writing summaries when I was up would have potentially been attempts to "steal my thunder." I think scheduled writers may feel the same way to some extent. After all, we're all desperate attention whores, no? Having the tag "official" pretty much guarantees that a certain number of people are going to read the summary, though, so I hope the scheduled writers will come to feel that their thunder isn't being stolen. If anything, multiple summaries attract more people to this site and hence to the "official" summaries.

Finally, there is a fair amount of pressure on the official summary writers, imho. In every case where I've been scheduled to write a summary, I felt it would be letting down the community if I couldn't, for any reason, produce a summary. And having volunteered myself to write a summary for "Beg Borrow & Deal" recently, I can't tell you how relieved I would have been to have seen an alternate summary pop up that would have let me off the hook. Knowing now that, on Survivor and TAR at least, there will be at least one summary for people to read until the official summary can be polished provides some measure of relief. Your mileage may vary.

20. "We love unofficial summaries!"
As one of the people who has encouraged AMAI to write her summaries, let me say that I think there can never be too much humor on the board. It's always been our policy that, while we have official summaries that get posted on the Website, we encourage anyone who desires to write a non-official summary. See this thread if you don't believe me.

Note that in Survivor 5, E3, having unofficial summaries saved our butts when our official writer's computer broke -- we posted the three unofficial summaries, from AMAI, HawkEye, and drawde236, and we were able to tell the official writer (Naked)that not getting a summary from him was "no problem" when he got back online!

Unfortunately, like ElCinOhio, I often don't even have time to read the official summaries, let alone the unofficial ones, but it's nice to know that they're there.

Thanks SherpaDave & AyaK for your replies.

Sherpa, I've been to lots of sites, and this IS the only one I know of with multiple summaries per episode.

I agree with you:I think it's pretty damned cool that we have as many talented writers turning them out as we do.

To see a whole "house" full of talented funny people working to produce great recaps is something I've tried to encourage on other boards, without success. Thank you, AyaK, for making it a reality here and for welcoming me aboard way back when.

Thanks to EVERYONE. It is a real pleasure to be part of this site.
