PLEASE NOTE: The Reality TV World Message Boards are filled with desperate
attention-seekers pretending to be one big happy PG/PG13-rated family. Don't
be fooled. Trying to get everyone to agree with you is like herding cats,
but intolerance for other viewpoints is NOT welcome and respect for other
posters IS required at all times. Jump in and play, and you'll soon find out
how easy it is to fit in, but save your drama for your mama. All members are
encouraged to read the
complete guidelines.
As entertainment critic Roger
Ebert once said, "If you disagree with something I write, tell me so, argue
with me, correct me--but don't tell me to shut up. That's not the American way."

I can't help but feel a bit smug watching this season of American Idol. After watching Simon et al arrogantly dismissing many young singers with a great deal of talent... they are left with a handful of mediocre singers (and a few who are outstanding). How many people viewers have asked themselves... "75,000 auditions, and THIS is the best they could find?" All of the remaining contestants are likeable, decent kids. You have to admit, however, that this is a boring group. And while a lot of folks are probably having fun voting for their favorite, does anyone really think that this will translate into record sales? After two seasons of American Idol, the nation now knows how quickly singers can come and go. (Does anyone remember the top ten from season one?) There is no way that most of the kids remaining will have any staying power in this business. On the other hand, I think that we'll be seeing more of Frenchie, Scooter Girl, and a few others (including the kid who Simon turned away (when he said he wanted to be Miss World). As for me, it's going to take a lot to tune in much longer this season. Yawn...

1. "Top 7 from season 1" |
LAST EDITED ON 04-22-04 AT 07:28 PM (EST)1. Kelly Clarkson (double-platinum CD) 2. Justin Guarini (flop CD) 3. Nikki McKibbin (working on CD deal -- probably independent) 4. Tamyra Gray (upcoming CD) 5. R.J. Helton (new CD) 6. Christina Christian (upcoming CD -- supposedly) 7. Ryan Starr (working on CD deal -- probably independent) No, I can't remember who finished 8th, 9th or 10th (so I just looked them up ... it was A.J. Gil, EJay Day and Jim Verraros), but it's not like these seven were just talentless schmucks ... except maybe for Justin, that is.
