"Week 4 - Best and Worst"
Elton John night. Where's the guest judge?
Were there any surprises? Or is it just same old, same old?

Yes, this is early, I'm busy packing.

actually disagree on most of those. it was far from Camile or Diana's worst, although it wasn't good. and I think JPL's was good (the practice clip was great - if he had been that good live, he would have beaten Latoya or Jennifer's performances. says something that Elton John said he had great pitch)

as for Red? someone put the lad out of his misery.

Agree to disagree on Camille, Diana and JPL...Agreed on Red. He so wants out of there...poor kid...

Best for me: LaToya, Jennifer and Fantasia

I agree with He (often do) on the JPL practice clip. He sounded like he was going to hit it out of the park but when the time came, he got under it and popped out

I am going to start the save Johhny Red Foundation. I disagree with you totaly. Yeah he was off some, but he has started to listen to the judges. He picked something different for him and showed some personality this time.he is trying to stay alive in this competition.

Is he going to win? No
Is he the best singer? Not Yet
Do I enjoy listening to him? Yes

Come in a stranger,leave a little stranger

I'm with you SurvivorScott-- we Johnny Red fans have to stick together!!

Some people say they want to fall asleep when he sings, which I completely don't get. To me, he's SO MUCH more interesting than Jasmine and Diana-- neither of whom sound different from anyone else in the world who can usually hit the notes and can really belt out a song. To me, there's nothing appealing or alluring about that.

Johnny Red's voice, to me, is so much more compelling. But you all HAVE to be as tired of hearing me say that I like him as I am tired of hearing how much people hate him, so I'll *try* to shut up now. LOL.

Do you need donations for your Johnny Red Foundation? Count me in...

(and my support of your Johnny Red venture as nothing to do with the fact that you have my PTTE fate in your hands, ha ha! )

Boy Red is flat, he has absolutely no range at all. I liked him at the beggining but not for the long haul of this competition, and now I can' bare to listen to him any more. He is way out of his league and it's time for him to go.

I usually don't vote or post about the show. But tonight I was so moved by Jennifer's performance--and desperate to keep her around for at least another week--I just had to vote.

Here's what I thought about tonight's show:

Fantasia - I remember the week she got voted into the final 12.... the judges LOVED her, but her performance was only mediocre. I just don't see the fascination. She has a decent voice, but I think she sounds too much like Macy Gray. She is good but overrated. And her performance was definitely lackluster this week.

JPL - I could not believe he made it through after that horrendous performance he gave for the Wild Card round. I was not a fan. In the weeks following that show I saw a lot of improvement. This week his performance was disappointing, but it was not the worst of the evening by any means.

Jasmine - Her performance was neither great nor horrible. She has never really impressed me or disappointed me all that much. I'm pretty apathetic when it comes to this contestant. I just don't see a spark... nothing really strikes me about her.

John - As bad as he sounded, I got a kick out of him tonight. I hope America decides to keep him around a little longer. I am a fan and hope to see him go back to what he does best next week.

Camile - She is without a doubt my least favorite remaining finalist. SHE CANNOT SING! Her voice is quite nasal, she always sounds like she has a head cold. What is the deal? How did she make it this far? Even that girl who got the boot the first week of the finals was better than she is!

George - He didn't impress me much at first. But each week I find myself more charmed by him. He has a great voice, and you can see how much he loves performing. He is always a treat to watch.

Diana - I loved her during the semifinals. Lately she has been a little disappointing, but I hope she sticks around a little longer. She just needs to slow down a little, take a few deep breaths, and try to mature vocally (Simon was right--she usually does sound like something you'd hear in a high school musical) in the following weeks.

Latoya - After Jennifer she is my favorite of the finalists. She always comes across as so composed and sure of herself. If Jennifer doesn't win (and she probably won't because America doesn't seem to like her as much as I do) I hope she does.

Jennifer - She is by far the best singer I have ever heard on any American Idol season. Come on, people. She is really something special. Maybe she isn't petite and as picture-perfect as some of the other contestants, but the girl's voice is solid gold! She always brings tears to my eyes. She is AMAZING!

All right, I'm outta here,
PTFO!!

3. "RE: Week 4 - Best and Worst"

Fantasia – pretty good. was kind of like Latoya’s performance last week for me though – I liked it and thought it was good, but it just didn’t move me.

JPL – I expect you to tell Jasmine she needs voice lessons now, Simon. That said, until the last one which was strong, the other high notes did leave something to be desired. He was great on the chorus though and good overall – thought he sounded amazing in the practice clip, but didn’t quite bring that same level tonight. Of course the judges weren’t gonna say anything good.

Jasmine – questionable to choose a song that Clay smashed up last year. That said, great start…but eww, that was an ugly note. Very rough after the first quarter or third of the song. But I bet the judges loved it *rolls eyes* Wow, they actually called her on it, color me shocked.

Johnny Red – couple rough spots, and he still couldn’t hit the low spots. Or the high spots, ick. That said, there were some decent spots and I commend him for a risky song choice. Did show a lot of personality, but didn’t at all do for himself what JPL did with “A Little Less Conversation” and I think that’s what he was going to need. Better than last week, but that’s not saying anything I guess.

Camile – kind of rough start, but I think she is improving a bit. The “ah-ah-ahs” and the power parts were nice. Still not great though and seemed more nervous than last week, so actually regressed in that respect.

George – ehh... Better than the last 3, but everyone is ALWAYS better than those 3. Screaming parts of it, “na-na-nas” were na-na-nauseating. Just didn’t do it for me. WTF are you talking about Randy? This was maybe his worst so far! The judges are so random and/or dishonest (what else is new?)

Diana – ehh #2. Nothing good or bad about it, just completely mediocre.

Latoya – woohoo! Finally one very, very good performance. And one ranks tonight above last week.

Jennifer – great! Like Latoya, showed why none of last week’s bottom 3 should have been there. Last note wasn’t *quite* there, but overall really good.

4 good performances, 2 or 3 mediocre, and 2 or 3 bad (not sure if I rank Jasmine in the mediocre or bad group…probably mediocre by virtue of the great start)

1. Latoya
2. Jennifer
3. JPL
4. Fantasia
5. George
6. Diana
7. Jasmine
8. Camile
9. Red

My bottom 3 (as it’s been most weeks): John, Camile, Jasmine, with John getting the boot.
America’s bottom 3: Jennifer, John, Diana, with Jennifer getting the boot.

George - take me to the pilot

On the west coast, haven't seen the show yet. I LOVE "Take Me To The Pilot"!! It is one of Elton's earliest songs. I saw him perform it in 1970!

Take me to the pilot
Lead me to the chamber
Take me to the pilot
I am but a stranger
Na, Na, Na
Na, Na, Na
Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na..........

It was a 60's rock song that probably doesn't translate well to 2004! Kind of like song from Blind Faith or Cream.

Elton was the BEST in 1970, but I saw him years later when he became very famous and he was quite boring in comparison.

Chrissy, you really did sing that well. You should be up there on stage.

My picks exactly. Why did JPL not do Croc Rock? I thought for sure he would. His choices have been safe, yet boring. If he is trying to prove himself a serious singer, its not working! He is singing bleh songs for him. I didn't want to bash too much on him cause I liked the whole Elvis thing (it was fun) but wow he is bad now.

I have enjoyed George's singing every week. I was waiting for a night like tonight though. LaToya and Jennifer were wonderful. And as my husband asked me "you'd go to church for George, wouldn't you?" And I had to say yes.

IMO, I don't think the others are even in the same class as these three.

I was waiting for this week...when I finally started caring about the contestents.

couple comments...

this week was quite pathetic, overall.

I think the judges were right on with their critiques, although i disagreed with randy/paula on Fantasia. She disappointed me.

the good? No brainer: Jennifer, George, LaToya in that order.

all the rest were blah, except Camille totally disappointed me. she was the worst. Even Red was better than her.

Re: John Stevens. I think he should be applauded for FINALLY stepping out of his box. He did much better than i expected.

Bye-bye Camille, i had hoped for better from you.

1. Jennifer... This was the performance I had been waiting for. She has always had the pipes, and finally found the right song.

2. George... he is so infectious, but his voice gets raspier each week. He will probably crash and burn vocally, and he'll still get votes.

3. LaToya... the most professional performer on the show, she is never bad. She's been better.

4. Fantasia... hitting leadoff suits her, because her personality lit up the show. Vocally, she was OK.

5. Jasmine... a much better performance than in the past few weeks. She's the Hawaiian who deserves votes. Solid voice, good presentation.

6. Diana... her worst performance, and it may send her home. Bad song choice, no breath support. She can do so much better.

7. Jon Peter... the novelty has worn off. The Hobbit is out of his league. Did he know that William Hung's album debuted today, and one of the songs is "Rocket Man"? They sounded the same.

8. John... ooh. ouch. 10,000 bonus points for trying to break open. "Your Song" would have been the safe choice. A flameout for Johnny Red.

9. Camille... Waitress, could you please stop singing? My ears are bleeding. An absolute horror. The more I hear this girl I question how she ever got into the final 250. Her participation at this point is a travesty.
The very idea that she may continue hurts my very soul.

OMG, I'm laughing my a** off right now! I agree EXACTLY with your placements, and I especially agree with your assessment of Camille. Her performance was physically painful. Johnny Red was bad, but Camille was hideous. I closed my eyes and just listened. Dear God. At one point I couldn't stop myself from making faces at the TV. Who is voting for this girl? For pete's sake, there are other pretty faces out there. Please, in the name of all that is holy, let her be gone tomorrow. I'd take a thousand Johnny Reds over her.

The one thing I disagree with you about is George. I don't think he's getting any raspier, and I don't think he'll crash and burn vocally. I think he's just got a gravely voice, which won't get any more or less raspy. He's growing on me more every week. I think he may be my favorite at this point. I actually love the "dip." I think that's his "thing," and he has a unique and interesting voice to go with it. I hope it comes down to George and LaToya. So far, George is the only one whose album I might buy.

Have to agree with you, opinionated.

George is the only reason I am still watching this show. He is just draws you in - and you cant help but smile. I could see him a Gospel Church leading the chior and having the whole church up on its feet singing!

For me so far, all the women are throw-away (which is hard for me to say, because 90% of the music i listen to is from female artist).

LaToya, Jen, Fantasia, Jasmine -- none of them seem to stand out on their own -- they all sound like someone else... I dont see their own personality shine forth...Cant see myself buying any of their CD's...

Say what you want about Conan and JPL -- their voices are distinct as their personalities. They have their own identity. I might actually buy a Conan CD... Maybe a JPL one... maybe...

As for Diana -- cant take her seriously until she grows up a few more years. Kinda reminds me of LeeAnn Rhymes (sorry if I spelled that wrong). Too much talent -- utilized too soon. Afterall, where is LeeAnn today? I think thats what will happen to Diana if she wins -- a quick burn, then its over. Though, with another 3 or 4 years of maturing -- i would consider buying her cd...

Yeah, a fellow George fan! I think he really is the best, such an infectious personality and the rasp doesn't bother me at all-it's a style and I love it. Weird to see some Fantasia-bashing going on because I think she rules every time- she sounds a bit like Macy Gray, but Macy Gray can't sing as well as she can. Mix in a little Aretha and she really does have her own style.

I hate Diana, I agree with you archon. She's too young and it shows too much. She should do musical theatre. She poses too much and it comes across as fake. Good voice, but her style makes me want to vomit.

Jennifer finally proved that she is one of the best- she had more control than ever and really kicked some serious butt.

LaToya is good too but she doesn't stand out as much as George and Fantasia.

JPL has potential, but seriously needs some training. Not strong enough. He's cute, that's why he's still around.

John Stevens- he will be entertaining senior citizens all across America some day.

Jasmine is very good, she just screwed the end up.

Camille- Bye bye

Did I mention that I love George?
This has been the best AI of all three, though, I have to say that. But if John S or Diana win the competition, I will never watch again!

Peace.

You said everything I was going to say. I'll just add one comment on George. As I said before, he reminds me of Gomer Pyle but this time I will clarify that I mean Gomer not Jim Nabors. Here ya go......

In order of performance...

01 - Fantasia Barrino - Elton thought she was "incredible"
Song: Something About The Way You Look Tonight
Amazing...every note spot on. But ewwwwwwwww...the end...ENOUGH with the "yeah yeah yeah" at the end of every song already! YIKES! Simon thought she "screeched"...I disagree, I thought she did a great job.

02 - JPL - Elton thought he had good phrasing.
Song: Rocket Man
NICE high notes dude! But your overall singing voice was shaky. Hit every high note EXACTLY on pitch and sounded great on them! It was espeacially hard for me to judge JPL on this song because this song is so beloved to me and I have Elton's version engrained in my brain and let's face it....JPL ain't no Elton!

03 - Jasmine Trias - Elton didn't say a lot
Song: Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me
Nice start. WOW...best I've heard from her. The deep notes are really sweet. EWWWWWWWWWW---OH NO! What a CLUNKER of a note the second to last "me" was! And then the end was really weak. She had it til the end. Bummer.

04 - John Stevens - OMH SO AWFUL!!! I need earplugs! I've heard MUCH better at kareoke bars! Some VERY VERY bad notes going on here! I think Simon hit it on the head...this was EXCRUCIATING! C'mon America! Show this boy the door OUT!

05 - Camille Velasco - Elton had not much to say
Oooooh, bad start, very shakey...a couple of flat notes that really made me cringe. When will she EVER be comfy up on stage? How much longer are we gonna let her stay? Simon says "End of the Road"

06 - George Huff - Elton says he was the "least rehearsed"
I have never heard this song before, so my view is not tainted. Seems like a GREAT choice for him...I LOVE George! I agree that he improves every week! George DOES have confidence and I think he is the best so far.

07 - Diana DeGarmo - "sassy" says Elton
Song: Still Standing
Good start...faltered notes, but nice crowd participation. WTF was up with that outfit though? EEEEEEK Looks like Flash Dance on ACID! Very pitchy notes and definitely NOT her best performance. She did have a nice ending. Simon chose not to comment.

08 - La Toya London - Elton says "Impeccable" Would give a contract to
Song: Someone Send My Love Tonight
Must say that I love her natural hair much better. Excellent tone and pitch. WOW...fabulous! BUT.........WTF??????? She is stealing Fantasia's "yeah yeah yeah"? WHY? I HATE that!

09 - JENNIFER HUDSON!!!!!!!!!!!!! Elton says she blew him away...the BEST performance!
Song: Circle Of Life
Nice STart.........Rich Notes.....Beautiful Voice!!!!! WOWOWOWOWOWWOW! She is soooooooooooooooo strong! She is definitely the BEST of the night........she made me cry! It's official..........Jennifer Hudson IS my American Idol and I will buy her CD whether she wins or not....she makes me FEEL the music!

PS- I do have to wonder about the placement of the contestents...since Jennifer was in such grave danger last week, did they purposely let her sing last tonight so that the audience could in no way forget her performance? Just wondering.

I HAVE NO IDEA what the judges (and most of you) are talking about with the John criticims!!

I'm listening to my husband replay all of them from the next room, and John sounds really good. Maybe the dancing is throwing everybody off, but John DID NOT tank this performance. I think it's easy to hate his performances at this point, warranted or no.

He gave it some of the crazy campiness that Elton John gives his own performances. Now I know John is not Elton, but he doesn't deserve the train wreck references.

I liked the tone of his voice in the parts that were good (and there were some), and i loved that he took a risk, but the high and low notes were awful and just made the whole thing bad for me. Better than last week? yes. but good? no, at least not overall. He just doesn't have much range, vocally or stylistically.

that's my 2 cents anyway

Speaking of Amy...noticed she was in the audience and seemed to be a really good sport (that doesn't surprise me). I had to wonder, and feel bad for her, what it was like to miss out on the Elton John meeting and singing! God, that must hurt. Hopefully she still got to meet him, since she's obviously still around. She deserved to be there.

And it was tad bit much to see Diana go through the audience with her insipid high-fiving (SO contrived, IMO), and giving Amy a high-five while singing "I'm Still Standing" - I know it wasn't meant that way, but I had to think the subtext could be "And you're not, nyah nyah nyah!"

I agree that John bashing is harsh because his style is very retro and different from everyone else's, but he can only do one style and that doesn't make for an Idol. He really should stick to the retirement homes and he'll be fine! Or maybe he should hang out with Harry Connick Jr. for a day because his fans would be John's audience (if John can improve his natural talent).

I agree, I think the judges put her last to make an impression. And though I truly think the comments were warranted, I think Simon went out of his way to make sure that he gave her a compliment this week. This popularity sham has got to stop and we've got to start trimming the weeds so the real roses like Jennifer can have a chance to grow.

BTW: I want to remember that she was a singer on a Disney??? cruise line so that song was probably already well entrenced in her repoirtoire. (just saying...still loved it)

Fantasia-good but weve seen better

JPL-better by the red piano, but he'll be safe

Jasmine-just okay wrong song to pick Clay was just too good

John S.-oh the poor kid, I feel for him the way Paula said, he took a risk but it didn't work, Latoya will not take his place in the bottom three this week, but he'll be back next week bc

Camille- was just plain awful, i just tivoed ahead after a short time

George-did a great job, unusual choice but I love the song, He and JPL need some dance lessons tho

Diana-well she did ok, we'll she be "Still Standing" after tomorrow?(i did like when she said "hey, girl" to Amy-what class Amy has coming back--anyone see Bleah or her awful mother in the audience?)

Latoya-absolutely wonderful as usual I love her hair short

Jennifer-she continues to sing over the top and she made it sound too gospely, but she does not deserve the bottom 3, she may not get it--Elton John said she was her favorite

Bottom Three: Camille, John S., Diana

Hopefully, Jennifer wont be in the bottom three she does not deserve it after this week.

I'm listening to my husband replay them in the next room over, and it is AMAZING how much better you can distinguish the good from the bad when you're not watching them.

Fantasia: good, but I am so tired of the nasal sound of her voice. I recognize that she can sing, but I hate listening to it. One(?)word: "Yeeaaah-yeeeaaah-yeeeaaah" Give it up, Fanty.

JPL: The boy can hit the high notes, but the others are flat and uninspired.

Jasmine: Ugg-- she sounded painful during rehearsals-- so shrill, but she cleaned it up a bit for her live performance. Some pitchiness, and OFF notes, but okay.

John: Really liked this one, especially from the next room over. It's easy to criticize this because he LOOKS like someone doing a cheesy song, but it DOESN'T sound cheesy.

Camile: Sounded weak, but when I listen from the next room, there's definitely some really great tones and notes in there. She just CANNOT pronounce her words! But not as bad as she has been. It gets better when you listen again.

George: Rocked. As always.

Diana: Worst performance of the night. Flat from start to finish. Poor Diana. I like her too, but she did not have it tonight.

Latoya: Pretty good, but the woman can sing just about anything.

Jennifer: Sounded good, still with the exaggerated facial stuff, though. Missed the end so I can't comment.

Bottom three: Your guess is as good as mine!! But my tastes are better (ha, ha!!)

Good luck in the Anti-Bootee and PTTE's everyone!!

Fantasia - I like this performance. Her personality is starting to grow on me, too. I really think she has a teasey thing going on with Simon. She's a mom? Didn't know that.

JPL - I so want this guy to be good. But he should have done LEVON!!

Jasmine - very pitchy. Good strong pipes but her voice was all over the place.

John S. - I was worried when Elton voiced his concern for John's song choice. By the end of the song, I just couldn't watch I was so embarrassed for him (so was Simon). He has GOT to lose that finger-snappin' thing. John looked like he was actually pleading to America to put him out of his misery.

Camille - I could listen to John for one more week if America would get her out of there. I can't wait to hear Larry's take on her outfit.

George - Why do I see him as the Forrest Gump of AI? He is really endearing. I'm enjoying George's performances. This one was just as good as the others. He's obviously an audience favourite.

Diana - seemed very "hoe-downish" to me. She reminds of a young Mama Judd. Didn't like her this week at all (I guess she's sick though).

LaToya - loved this performance. Lots of control, lots of emotion, very professional. Simon gave her a dig which should snap her fans out of last week's complacency.

Jennifer - What pipes! But she has this thing like Whitney where she's showing off her range and stopping there. I find with her, the facial expressions aren't appropriate to the emotion of the song. Kind of like Reuben the way he used to smile through break-up songs. This was the best she's done yet, though.

Elton - "there are a lot of idiots out there." LMAO

Fantasia: boring, mediocre and I think she sang the song one note higher than she should have... yeah yeah yeah yeah... groan

JPL: he looked a bit nervous tonight but i think he sounded great.. loved the high notes and Elton liked him too

Jasmine: the entire time she was straining almost to the point of working her way into a screech.. gag.. two horrible flat notes, even my cats sing better

John: gag spit heave hurl

Camille: blow your nose... clear your nasal passages or stop singing

George: i didn't think it was that great.. my least favorite next to "Lean on Me" but i still like him

Diana: maybe if she dressed for her age and did songs appropriate for her age she could do better

Latoya: not my favorite performance by her but she was good and looked great

Jennifer: totally stole the show this was my favorite performance since the show started from anyone.. i had chills and it was beautiful. Elton loves her and he should, she's great.

best: jennifer latoya jpl
middle: george diana
worst: camille john fantasia jasmine *still gagging from them*

1. Jennifer - Motivated me enough to vote...multiple times. Given some of the horrendous excuses for performances tonight, she deserves to be safe this week.

2. George - Great energy to his performance. He took over that studio.

3. Latoya - Lovely, but not mind-blowing.

4. Fantasia - Didn't need the yea yeahs at the end, and I do think she screeched one of the high notes.

5. Jasmine - OK, but as been pointed out already, she had a couple of flat notes that were just plain bad.

6. Diana - Eh.

7. JPL - I knew he was in trouble when they showed him at the red piano. The transition from his chest voice to his head voice for the higher notes was not smooth at all. His tromping around the stage during his main performance was distracting. Like Simon, I think there's a real voice under there somewhere, but he's not showing it off.

8. John Stevens - So this guy does have a personality. Appreciated that he took a risk, but it was painful when he attempted that first falsetto portion and missed the starting note as badly as he did. It seemed to deflate his performance too - the energy level definitely fell down after the first verse, and there were times that the notes were hesitant and slightly off in the later portions.

9. Camille - Mr. B and I were both yelling "NO" at the TV during her performance. She missed so many notes. Please America, put us out of her misery.

Jennifer - she was awesome tonight - a great song for her to just wail on. I hope her fans don't forget to vote for her just because she did so well. I could do without all the gesturing from her man hands. She is sort of defensive (which I can understand after being in the bottom three twice) but it makes her less likable - she just needs to do her thing.

LaToya - this is the first week I've really liked her. She's a very polished, mature performer. Most of Elton's songs require a bit of maturity to pull off because lyrically they are pretty challenging. Her professionalism really showed tonight - I'm a believer now.

George - I find myself grinning like a banshee when George performs - he is so entertaining and his enthusiasm is infectious. Love that he did an obscure song - love that he chooses songs that favor his scruffy voice. I love me some George.

Fantasia - I like her better tonight than I have before. The yeah yeah yeahs still annoy, but I understand why people dig her now. Good performance

Jasmine - some really good moments sprinkled in with some total clunkers too. She lights up the screen though. She's not in danger of going anywhere.

Diana - she picks the same song every week and the perkiness is getting forced. I would really like her to pick a slow torchy song - let the power in her voice shine through. Try to mature vocally. I hope she gets a chance to do better because she's far from the weakest singer left in the competition

Camille - I thought she did better tonight. Yes, there were some really bad notes, but there were good moments too. She doesn't belong in this competition but she's not as horrible as I thought.

JohnRed - the voice itself (with the exception of the when it cracked) wasn't that bad. He's just a horrible performer. He's just a kid - and he is not having fun. His fans aren't really doing him any favors by making him go through this every week. Give the kid a break and let him go home.

JPL - I've tried to see what y'all like in this kid. I really have. But I give up. This guy is a bulemic's best friend - I want to vomit every time he sings.

Ah my weekly AI rant

I would like to start off commenting on Diana. I agree it was not her best performance tonight, but theres something about her quirky charm that I just adore. Her voice is very on key. She needs to work on some shouting(not much) and she talks too much in her songs. But every week Dianas songs get stuck in my head for days and I just don't understand! Is this happening to anyone else?

LaToya- The only reason I find it hard to like is that so many people pretty much know you'll win. You are a very good singer, but I mean you have to make a mistake sometime right? Maybe not. I still think that you are only a little bit better than Trenyce though

George-Again George is awesome but I am just a really weird person and I don't tend to go with the popular vote all the time. I agree that your voice is getting a little raspier.

Jennifer-As you were singing I was thinking wow this is really good, and then I come to realize that you picked the EJ song that is probobly the least challenging pitch-wise

Fantasia- Oh Fantasia I really liked you in the beginning, and you are still a powerhouse, but your voice is just irking at me, and I don't like how you backtalk Simon, it's called being humble, the other contestants seem to have that quality

Jasmine- I am never sure if your gonna do good or your gonna bomb, but tonight you suprised me and just did ok. Looks like you got Hawaii's vote though. And your Dads

The rest can just be in the bottom and stay there as far as I am concerned there is no need to even comment on them

My bottom Three: (Obviously)
JPL
JS
CV

Americas:
CV
JS
JH or DD
(A suprise bottom three could go to Fantasia)

47. "RE: Week 4 - Best and Worst"
As usual, I can't add much to what everyone's written (West Coast curse, I guess) but I never let it stop me anyway.

The Best:

Jennifer - by far! And thank God too, because she was my favorite going into the competition, and she finally picked a song that showcased her powerhouse voice. The song was perfect for her, and she brought it. Hopefully she's just hitting her stride now.

Latoya - but of course, I think she can sing anything. I was a bit worried at the song choice, I really didn't envision it. Glad she pulled it off though, and I was pleasantly surprised. She is probably the only one I could stand to listen to for more than the two minutes or whatever it is that they perform.

Only OK:

Biiiiig space between the two above and these.

Fantasia - I didn't recognize the song she sang, maybe that was lucky. Although she bugs the heck out of me, she is good and she knows it. But she needs to learn how to take criticism and be a good sport. If she can control that better, I think she'll win the whole thing.

George - I don't get the love everyone has for him. However, he always has the perfect song choice. I wasn't expecting "Take Me to the Pilot" - I thought it was way too obscure, but it is one of my EJ favorites, so I gave him credit for it. Still sounds like he's straining too much, it doesn't seem easy for him.

Not Very Good At All:

Diana - Real bad song choice for her. It was bland and uninteresting. I was kinda expecting "Croc Rock" from her. I still like her and am hoping this doesn't make her fans apathetic.

JPL - I don't get the attraction everyone seems to have for him. He sings through his nose and there is just some weird tone he has that I don't care for. At least it wasn't "Tiny Dancer" again. Ewwwww!

John S - I didn't think he sucked as much as everyone else seemed to. I would have bet money on "Your Song" for him, and I was actually looking forward to that. He did miss on the beginning of the falsetto, but overall it wasn't as bad as the judges thought. I wouldn't have gone with that song, though.

In A Class of Suckdom All Her Own:

Camile - God! I know who is voting for her and why. I'm hoping they will just get behind Jasmine instead, that I could live with. I didn't think she could get any worse, but that was horrid and painful. She was flat on all the low notes and seemed to struggle with the high ones. Pleeeeez! Put her out of my misery!!!!

Jennifer Hudson by far was the best performance tonite! I am so happy that she is finally recognized as one of the better singers in this competition!

La Toya London is next on my list! I love her charm and collectiveness. I think she was a consistent performer so far thru out the competition.

George Huff is a very very good singer! But would someone cut his damn legs off?!? If i have to endure that pathetic dip one more week i will absolutely wish harm on that boy!

Fantasia Burrino was quite disappointing this week! I feel she could have done a lot better! She is becoming to mouth-y though! I think she should give less lip when the judges (Simon in particular) give their comments!

Jasmine Trias is a good singer although she usually has problems with pitch and usually messes up the endings on her songs. I really think she has potential though.

Diana Degarmo is too loud! She can sing but I dont think she is flexable at all! I want to see her clam it down one week and sing a soft song. She also has potential though.

JPL is a crying shame! I cant for the life of me hear anything good come out of this munchkin look-a-like! Simon says that his looks will keep him in the competition! Ummm SImon?!? - What looks?!?

John Stevens (Carrot Top) is just a waste of space. Will never be the next American Idol. Puts me to sleep week after week!

Camile Velasco! I just dont have anything to say except: Pack your bags!

Overall my Best Tonite:
Jennifer
La Toya
George

Worst
Camille
Carrot Top
JPL!

What it so great about Jennifer? She is a average singer, she ruined one of my favortie songs tonight (awful and then the judges said she so did great. ) and what is with those awful faces. Hard to take. The judges don't buy CDs we do and she would not sell many. The judges love her but America does not she is not that good. OMG Hard to believe that Randy and Simon are successful producers.

Laytoya is the only one that belongs there.

Everybody else is average talent show stuff. I can find twelve better singers at my church. All those that they auditioned and this is all they can come up with? No wonder JPL does so well he is entertaining to watch however I am not sure his music on the radio would go over well. At least he makes me laugh.
They should find away to bring back Amy, she was better then all of those left but Latoya.
Not worth voting tonite. I think this will be the last season of AI. William Hung can't sing and he will sell more CDs then the winner of AI3, because he is more entertaining. Next week I think I will rent a DVD.

I don't think that anyone can know how many albums she would sell, I would buy it and she also got a standing ovation from the crowd, most everybody loved Jennifer's performance tonight (from what I've seen and heard), and if I'm going to listen to anyone tell me if Jennifer can or can't sing, I'd listen to Elton John, who by the way, loves her voice.I'm just wondering how you became the spokesperson for America? Good
------

*Jennifer Hudson: No doubt the best performance that I have seen her do. Plus she picked a great song..I love that song.

*Latoya: Very nice. Def. not her best but I still think that it was good.

*Jasmine: Despite what the judges said, I thought she sounded really good. She can't always hit those high notes, that's true, but I thought she sounded very good.

*George: Loved it and love him!

OK
-----

*Fantasia: I wasn't really impressed by it. Ive heard better from her.

*Diana: I have definitely seen better from her. Maybe I just didn't like the song cuz it wasn't that great.

BAD BAD BAD...BAD!
---------------------

*John: What were you thinking? That was absolutely awful. Id rather here the crooner.

*Camille: It's starting to get redundant...please leave but Im sure you'll be here after Wed.

*JPL: Woo man he was completely off key. Isn't Tiny Dancer a Elton John song? He should've tried that one again.

My Bad category is my bottom 3, with John Stevens carrying his hiney home. Now why did I change my PTTE to Jennifer Hudson and then she does fabulous.

Jennifer has shown that she can handle one type of song - based entirely on vocal power - very well. I don't think she should win the competition based solely on that. Much as I hate to throw my hat in for the favorite, Latoya is the only contestant who has successfully shown anything resembling versatility. So even though she wasn't the best tonight, I still feel that she is the strongest all-round performer. But that's just me, I mean, what do I know?

1)Latoya - classy and can she can sing! Another steller performance! Like the short do, but who cares what you look liked after that song! WOW!

2)Jennifer-where did that come from? Loud as usual but very good! Usually a bit scary. Compared to some of your buddies tonight, you were great!

3)George- Amen! If I was the devil in the back row of church- even I'd be a believer now! Way to bounce! Way to sing (w'out much sweating, Ruben)

4)Fantasia-Good but no that good! The best thing she has going for her is she is better than half of the finalsts. yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

5)Diana- Better than last week, or was it? I kick myself for saying this, but that performance would have gotten rave reviews in the local high school paper. Too bad this is AI. But hey there are worse singers yet to come, so you may make it into the top 5.

6)Jasmine-yes, we know you can belt out the notes, but try for the right ones next time. That damn flower will only get you so far! Mediocre performace for me and they just get more worse!

7)Jon Peter- speaking of rocket man, strap him on one and set it off. Dimples can only get you so far! It is easier for me to list all of the positives here instead of the negatives,so.....

8)Camille-Did Helen Keller dress you? Or for that matter, did Helen Keller tell you that you could sing? She is the reason that people say hind sight is 20/20. If only we had known in week 2 of the semi-finals. Better than last week, but that is not saying much. Aloha!

9)John- I kick myself for saying this, but that performance would have gotten crappy reviews in the local high school paper. Whoa- someone shoot this old horse and put it out of his misery. Come back and try out for AI8.

The Best/WOW

Latoya, Jennifer

Great

George

Pretty Good

Fantasia

Ouch, that hurt

Diana, Jasmine

Diana - not her best night. But as Paula mentioned she was sick this week. She deserves another chance.

John Stevens - call me crazy, but I actually thought he did a good job with Crocodile Rock. At least compared to his other performances. I'd keep him around another week.

LAST EDITED ON 04-07-04 AT 08:02 AM (EST)

BEST
I've got to give it to Jennifer Hudson for giving me a good case of goosebumps. I had to give this night to her over George Huff since Huff's expected of doing great performances every night while Jen dodged a bullet right thru her. Fantasia Barrino did another good job though it's not her best night... but one thing she should learn by now is to accept criticisms with a fake smile.

MEDIOCRE
I don't know but two of the remaining great performers, LaToya London and Diana DeGarmo started shedding their stardusts and letting their guards down, but still they're good enough in this competition. My fave, Jasmine Trias, had been the Queen of Inconsistency in this competition... but I have to give her a benefit of the doubt regarding her too obvious two-pitchy-notes, due to her alleged laryngitis and tonsilitis these past few days. In the next night, she should do an Amy or Jennifer or else she'll be forgotten.

WORST
The three with the highest fanbase are here... Camile Velasco should have chosen a song that could suit her voice and Elton John had a lot of his songs that are not too rangy. Jon Peter Lewis started to wear off his charms. John Stevens made my mind placed in a wavelength along with Elton John and Simon.

WHO'S GOING?
Jennifer will be SAFE after her attention-stealer performance.
George will be SAFE since he's only the guy worth watching in this show.
Fantasia will be SAFE after an obvious endorsement by Elton John.
LaToya will be SAFE since she was in the last week's bottom 3.
The other guys will be SAFE since they have the crazy fanbase in their side.
I had a bad feeling that the bottom 3 will be composed of Diana DeGarmo, Jasmine Trias, and Camile Velasco... with either Jasmine or Camile catching the bullet.

Fantasia- agree with Simon, she screeched a couple in there, seemed like she yelled more than normal.

JPL- what happened?

Jasmine- apparently didn't get the memo about no one should attempt this song after Clay did it so well last year.

John- ugh, no way too much trying and over the top, and just needs to mature and then come back to this competition.

Camille- please go home now!

Diana- poor thing, you could tell she was under the weather.

LaToya- best of the night, I thought. She has class, grace and very mature and in control.

George- never heard of the song, is that song that motownish? Great job though.

Jennifer- ? Nope didn't get it, I wasn't blown away by the performance.

In the words of Randy Jackson "It just didn't do it for me dawg" That's what I think about last nights episode. For that matter, that is what I have thought about the last two weeks as well. But anyway, George did a nice job last night, despite the way he was standing, and moving.

I know this is going to make alot of people laugh, but I liked John Stevens last night. He made me smile, he really tried hard, I guess he didn't try hard enough to impress most people.

Camille was awfull as she always is.

JPL makes me rench in pain. Sorry, I just don't like his voice. He is cute though, in an Opie kinda way.

Fanastia did OK, but I am getting tired of her voice.

Jasmine, OK

Diana, not so good tonight. She sounded very Karioke(spelling wrong?)

Jennifer was pretty good, she tends to sound too over the top, too gospel.

Latoya was also pretty good. She is so beautiful, it is hard to find anything wrong with her.

That being said,

I think that the bottom three will be:

John S. (even though I liked him, Ha Ha right?)

Camille

Diana ( even though I think it should be JPL)

Top 3 -

GEORGE!!! - that's my new fave Elton John song. I was singing it all night long after that! And my kid and I love to do the "George Dance" when he sings.

LaToya - good as always, almost boringly so.

Jennifer - WOW! Gave me chillbumps, the second time she's done that.

Middle -

Fantasia - I am SO over her. Like EnglProf said, that "yeahyeahyeah" ending crap needs to go away.

Jasmine, Diana, JPL - eh. Nothing outstanding there.

Bottom -

Camille - she just doesn't have it.

Johnny Red - Send this poor boy home before he's permanently scarred.

Bottom 3 - Johnny Red, Camille, Diana. Bye bye, Camille.

Elton must be hanging his head. Almost every song was totally butchered and by some who I had liked! That show was like watching a train wreck.

1) George - saved the night for me. One of my favorite Elton songs of all time (early Elton is the BEST!). Made me feel old when even Elton said it was obscure..maybe for the 13-year-olds who vote, but a masterpiece of my youth. I was up out of the Lazy Boy dancing and clapping. Love this guy and I would watch and listen to him all day long if I could. He's just a joy!
2) Latoya - still doesn't wow me and had some weird phrasing going on, but at least I wasn't wincing all the way through (only once or twice). Technically a terrific singer, but I never get the feeling she "feels" the song or lyrics. If ever a song called for "feeling" the lyrics, this is it. Latoya didn't do it. Seems to have caught the "yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah" disease from Fantasia.
3) Jasmine - I can't believe I'm saying this, but Paula was right on in her comments. She kept coming under the notes. And what was she thinking with this song when Clay absolutely gave a seminar in singing with this song last year. That's an act she simply cannot follow. But she does have a good voice, she's just beautiful, and I think she can improve.
4) Jennifer - hate that song!!!!!! The fact that she's probably sung it a hundred times during her stint with Disney cruises helped, but it certainly isn't Elton's most challenging song (which is probably why my two-year-old niece can belt it out almost as well). This woman is hard to watch for me and the whole gospel singer thing fails to impress me. There are thousands of them all over the country who sing as well and aren't so hard to watch.
5) Fantasia - meh! Don't like the song, don't like her voice, don't like her demeanor. Guess that means I didn't like her tonight. What else is new? You don't have to shout to put intensity into a performance and the "yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah's" have got to go. If she does it again next week, I'll put her at the bottom of my list forever.
6) Diana - in about 5 years, this girl is gonna completely blow everyone away. Just not yet. She has a terrific natural talent but just doesn't quite have the maturity to harness it. Chose one of Elton's total throwaway songs, too. Definitely showed that she was under the weather. Give her a few years, though, and I'll bet she rocks.
7) JPL - why did you do "Rocket Man?" You were made for "Levon!" Sounded fabulous in rehearsal and the high notes were totally there in performance. A hard song to get across to an audience, though, and some rough spots didn't help. Not your best night, dude.
8) John - his best performance since country night, but that's not saying much. He's another one who I think is very talented and with a few years of training will be terrific, but is just too young for this competition. I do think he tried to have some fun with the song and performance and I'll give him extra points for trying.
9) Camile - go away!!! Far, far away. Hawaii isn't far enough. Antarctica seems about right since Mars is out of the question. I can't bear to watch or listen to you another minute. The Hawaiians, Filipinos, and adolescent boys who are keeping you in this competition are doing you no favors. No star power, no presence, no taste, and no talent.

No doubt that America (or at least the adolescent/teenager portion of it that votes/text messages) will totally disagree with me. I will say that I think that Amy would have done a much better job than most of these losers.

Fantasia - I thought this was a really good song for her and thought she did well. No complaints, may be the best thing I've seen her do.

JPL - ICK. How he continues to get votes is beyond me. I guess all those teenage girls think he is cute and burn up the phone lines. He proved tonight that he is out-classed in this competition.

Jasmine - I thought it started off really well but there was no WOW to it. It was good but not GREAT.

John - Him not being in the bottom 3 last week proves the voting method is completely flawed. This was terrible. Last week was terrible. He is a one-trick-pony and he even messed up his "one trick" when he forgot the lyrics to King of the Road two weeks ago. Id say he would be out for sure this week if it wasnt for...

Camile - I so wanted her to do well in this. I thought her original audition was great but she has done NOTHING since then. I've seen people do karoke that were terrified of being on stage that looked and sounded better than her this week.

George - I hated Geroge at first. I thought he was also a one-trick-pony with only the bluesy Motown kinda stuff. But this week he made me smile and his rendition of "Take me to the Pilot" was probably my favorite performance of the night. The "dip" gets a bit distracting though.

Diana - I like Diana but I think she needs some maturing. High school production quality singing and "dancing".

Latoya - I was blown away by this right up until then end. Who in the heck arranged this shortened version. I didnt like the way it ended. She sang it well but it was arranged badly IMNSHO.

Jennifer - I love Jennifers mid-range notes but when she tries to sing low it makes me cringe. When she tries to sing high it is usually a bit too high. This week she was really good but it was a bit over the top. A tad to grandiose for my liking. But still one of the top 3 or 4 performances tonight.

Best: George, Latoya
Good: Fantasia, Jasmine, Jennifer
OK: Diana
Bad: JPL
Worse: John, Camille

JPL, John and Camille should be the bottom 3 but that wont happen because the voting method is flawed.
Watch for another one of the better contestants (i.e. Jennifer) to be voted off just like last weeks travesty.
Amy is/was better than at least 4 of the remaining 9.

I haven't said anything before but I will now, JPL's fans aren't all teenagers, I am a grown woman who loves his voice, and I'm tired of people saying that only teenagers vote for him, just to make themeselves feel better because they don't like him.I can't stop anyone from saying that, or stop anyone from not liking him but the fact is, that statement about teenagers just isn't true.

right on shedevil! another JPL fan here that is NOT a teenager or a girl.

the fact of the matter is, aside from Latoya, there is not one of these people that is any better than JPL consistently (maybe Fantasia but I don't personally like her, and I think Jennifer is a better singer (better than any of the final 12 save Latoya and Amy), but she doesn't always bring it consistently). JPL is always as good as anyone but 1 or 2 on a given night, and he is by far the most entertaining, enjoyable, and unique, so I might as well vote for him. whenever he goes, i'm going to stop watching the show since Amy has already been unfairly ousted, and she's the only other one I had a real liking for.

But I think there is just such irrational hatred for the kid that no matter what he does some people will say it is awful. He's the obvious whipping boy for the Camile fans, the Red fans, the Jasmine fans, etc. Admittedly, being a fan I'm a bit biased the other way, but I'd like to think that it doesn't bump him any in my rankings, at least no more than 1 spot, which may have been the case this week. He was still certainly as good as anyone but Latoya, Jennifer, and maybe Fantasia this week. George and Diana were painfully mediocre, and Jasmine, Camile and Red were just painful.

I also don't get the George love, at least not tonight. I normally like him, but this performance was pretty painful. He's really starting to wear on me more than Fantasia is (I'm bewildered that I just said that too)

Hey He,

You hit the nail on the head here, because I FEEL the exact same way-- to me, Johnny Red seems to be the the whipping boy for people who have their own favorites, and I feel about Johnny Red like you do about JPL. So, what you've said makes complete sense to me.

Makes me wonder about this latest season of AI, and if it's always been this vitriolic between fans who have different favorites. (This is the first season of AI that I've been on the RealityTVWorld Boards).

I don't feel as strongly about John (or any of them for that matter) as I did eventually about Kelly and Clay, but it definitely bothers me to have people be so dismissive (and nasty) about someone whose voice I appreciate--NOT that I can't take the bashing!!

ALSO, He-ster, I just thought I'd take this opportunity to say I've really liked reading your constructive criticisms of both Johnny Red and JPL-- you definitely seem fair about giving credit where credit is due as far as their performances are concerned.

That's all

--Must also admit I, too, am a bit biased

thanks, i've enjoyed your thoughts too

and i can totally understand why you like Red too, and agree that there is some unwarrented stuff going his way. He CAN sing, but he's just not having fun with it. A lot the same as Camile I think. I want to like John, and I do like his voice when he's on and relaxed, the problem for me is that the flashes of this are just way too rare lately.

And again I come back to the same argument - I think they are letting them in too young. Both John and Camile could be VERY GOOD in another year or two (Diana and Jasmine too) but right now they aren't quite ready.

ETA: also, the reason I hope John and Camile go soon isn't that I don't like them, but that I don't want this to totally shake their confidence before they ever get a real chance, and a quick and merciful boot would be better for them IMO than continuing to struggle in front of millions (struggling in private can be overcome, in public much harder. of course, if they actually improve, that's better still, I just don't know if it can happen in so short a time)

I didnt say ALL JPL fans were teenage girls.

I said the teenage girls that think he is cute must be burning up the phone lines.

That statement no way implies that everyone who likes him is a teenage girl.

But hey thanks for taking it out on me

Have a nice day.

P.S. At first I really liked JPL. I liked him right up to and including his "Little Less Conversation" bit which was great but since then he has been mediocre at best IMNSHO.

i really disliked his Tiny Dancer performance, but have liked each of the subsequent ones, because they have all been different and showed me something differnt about him, something good about his voice that i didn't think was there, even after ALLC which, while it was what made me a fan, still hadn't convinced me he could sing at all.

no, none of his songs has been flawless, but neither has anyone else's except for Latoya (and maybe Fantasia). like i said, he's always been as good as anyone else but for the top couple each night IMO. and no, he's not the best singer, but no one but Latoya is. and as i said, each week he changes it up and does something different, which no one else does, and there is always something good and some improvement i see in each performance. he is really the ONLY one i see with potential to really get better as the weeks go by. Some (Latoya, Jennifer, Fantasia) are already good and unlikely to improve over the course of a few weeks. Some (Diana, John S., Camile, Jasmine) have fundamental problems that a few weeks alone can't fix. But I see the potential for JPL to get better every week, and that's why I want to see him stick around

1. Latoya -- She stood out on a night that no one did. Another awesome performance.

2. Jennifer -- Loved the vocals, hated the facial expressions.
Finally found a song that's perfect for her.

3. Jasmine -- When she first started, I was like "Wow, maybe it will be better than Clay's." Then she went horribly flat at the end. Oh well, still one of the better performances. She sounded so bad during the practice because she had laryngitis by the way.

4. George -- Why must he always do something distracting that takes away from his great vocals? If it's not holding a sweat towel, it's bobbing up and down.

5. Fantasia -- I actually was enjoying it--until she started doing the "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah" thing at the end.

6. Camille -- She actually sounded really good in the 2 second practice clip and did ok on the glory notes. But overall not a solid performance for her.

7. Jon Stevens -- A horrible performance reminiscent of Justin Guarini's "PYT", Clay Aiken's "Grease". But the reason he's not last is because he's better when he's humiliating himself rather than when he's putting me to sleep.

8. JPL -- Agree that he needs a vocal coach. Sounded perfect in practice, but did not perform it well.

9. Diana -- It's reported that she was suffering from the flu and so I was willing to give her a pass on vocals. But that's before she started to sing the same type of song, yet AGAIN. Talk about sounding the same, she is worse than Fantasia. Getting sick of her. At least Camille and Jon Stevens are *trying* to improve. Diana isn't.

That said, I hope Jennifer Hudson's fanbase didn't get complacent last night. It's often the kiss of death when a singer who has been in trouble turns in a decent performance because their fan base gets relaxed.

I have never voted for a contestant this season until tonight. And I voted multiple times for multiple people. So here it goes....

1. Jennifer - WOW! THAT was a wonderful performance. I voted for her non-stop for five minutes. She does not deserve to be in the bottom 3 tonight.

2. George - I love this guy. I didn't have to vote many times for him because the line was busy a lot. The bouncing is somewhat distracting, but his energy is so contagious. I just love watching him.

3. LaToya - Flawless. What else can I say? She has such nice teeth too! Very professional singer. Not sure she is "idol" material. I get the feeling Simon doesn't like her.

4. Fantasia - She did a good job. I wasn't really wowed with her but thought she started the show off well.

5. Diana - not her best. She probably should have chosen a different song. I really don't think Simon likes her at all.

6. JPL - he was 50/50 for me. Half was good and half was a little off. I agree that voice lessons wouldn't be a bad idea. I agree that he sounded great in the rehearsal clip but didn't pull it off on stage. Should have sang Levon.

7. Jasmine - she hit some bad notes in there peeps. I wasn't wowed by her at all. Clay did this song so much better. Maybe a better song choice would have helped her out.

8. Camille - Yuck. Ew. Go home.

9. Johnny Red - EW EW EW EW EW EW!!! I was throwing things at the TV!! THAT WAS HORRIBLE!!! Oh please please please let him be in the bottom three. Let's just have a mercy killing here for all our sakes.

Got a vote from me: Jennifer, LaToya, George, Fantasia

Middle of the road: JPL, Diana, Jasmine

Happy to see leave: Camille, Johnny Red

Fantasia Wow - incredible. I think she would have done better though if she had been on stage (no walking, etc.). Miss Ross might have something to say about that. Good luck Fantasia - I can't wait to buy your album!!!!

JPL I'm REALLY tired of people saying this person was good/great/whatever. The only thing he's bringing to the show is mockery - this was by far his worst performance. God please I'll be good if you'll JUST vote him OUT! MERCY!

Jasmine most of the song was decent but I think I agree with Paula for a change (gasp!)

Big Red Overall terrible - I don't think he cares anymore or doesn't know enough to get out of whatever tone deaf funk he's in.

Camile Hopeless.

George I'm not a George fan but I've enjoyed his last 2 performances. Also, I know what type of music he will end up recording one day and that's not my cup of tea. But, still, he's good.

Diana It looked like she was wearing a towel - you know the ones your mother keeps underneath the sink out of sight for cleaning up, oh never mind. It was OK but something I might expect to see at a wedding.

Latoya I like her and want to like her more but she's no Fantasia.

Jennifer Wow! I actually heard Whitney Houston, Marth Wash, and someone else coming out of her pipes. Good for her and I love the new hair doo.

Best = Wow, this is tough. Sorry Jennifer but it's Fantasia all the way.

Worst = please, there are too many. JPL.

83. "I rewatched the show, after a good night's sleep"
Hi all -

Each week this season i've been more and more disappointed. I think the post about "the chill factor" is right on the money. There are no standouts yet this season.

I posted my reactions right after the show last night when i was thoroughly disappointed. So this morning, i sat down with my cup of coffee, and watched the 9 performances again, thinking maybe i was tired last night and in a bad mood, or preoccupied. Here we go again...

Fantasia - to quote the dawg 'aiight, just aiight.', shes been much better, seemed safe to me.

JPL - last night i thought he was good, this morning my thoughts are that Simon was right (once again), he has a good voice in there, it just seems "trapped", he needs some help w/ the voice.

Jasmine - OK, not her best, missed quite a few notes. again "aiight"

Johnny Red - I have to say, i don't agree with the judges that it was dreadfully awful. I gotta give this boy his props for stepping out of his safe box, and taking a risk a'la JPL and Clay did. Yeah, he missed some notes, but i can't say it was horrific. Camille was worse, IMHO.

Camille - Bye-bye.

George - Another amazing performance. The thing that George has that others don't is the ability to pick THE perfect song each week. He also infused a bit of the good old fashioned gospel groove into each song to make it his own. "Pilot" was perfect for him. Just excellent.

LaToya - good, but safe. She has the pipes, yet nothing has blown me away as when she made the final 12 cut.

Diana - Teh first week or two i was impressed. Lately, i am not. Again, she has the pipes, she is just picking to "sassy" of songs, as Elton said. She can wow us, but only with better song picks.

Jennifer - I've loved you since the top 32. Thank you for proving that I have been right. I definately got "chills" with your performance.

Overall, my impressions are the same as last night. Not a good week.

bottom 3 - anyone but Jennifer & George.

Bootee - I hate to say it, but it should be Camille. She hasn't stepped up to the plate.

Good-Great
1. Jennifer- Damn...she can sing.
2. George- Damn...he can bounce.
3. Fantasia- Damn...I just like her a lot (her weakest overall, though).
4. LaToya- Damn...HORRIBLE song choice, but she sang it really well.

Mediocre
5. Jasmine- She's amazing and beautiful, when she's not off-pitch.
6. John Stevens- It made me laugh so hard that I can't say that it was awful.

Awful
7. Diana- Go away ditzy 16 year girl who reminds me of Jon Benet.
8. JPL- Go away hobbit boy.
9. Camile- Bo away Hawaiian girl with no pitch.

However, John Stevens, Camile, and Fantasia will be the bottom 3.

Love the reference to Jon Benet-that's exactly what I think that Simon was getting at a few weeks ago when he said she was "bred" to do this. She is a plastic version of a real, true singer. Too cute. Makes me want to hurl chunks.

Do you really think Fantasia will be in the bottom three? She is one of the best and has her own truly unique style that audiences seem to love. I think she is AWESOME. I have to respectfully disagree with that. I think that JPL might be in the bottom three, but those young girls may keep him around for another week. I hope you are wrong about Fantasia. Jennifer has been in the bottom three a couple times-if she is this week then I will be convinced of a conspiracy!

Perhaps I am trusting America too much?!? If Jennifer is in the bottom three tonight, I will make every effort to get through next week!

I never thought about the curse of going first! Sometimes, though, going first sets the bar high for everyone else. She definitely stood out until George stepped up (or bounced down).

(*cleans ears out*) I'm wondering if we were watching the same show.

My highly subjective opinion follows:

My Faves
1. George--I really like George more and more every week. I started out liking him because he was an underdog (#33) and kept on liking him because he is so likable and I love his voice. DH and I don't think he sounds very raspy at all, but YMMV.
2. Fantasia- Despite the fact that I really don't like her "yeah, yeah, yeahing" her way through the end of the song, I really thought she did well. I've always liked her voice and she looked classy last night.
3. LaToya- LaToya used to be my fave. I still like her. I might buy her CDs if I could only listen to the last 2/3 of the song. She always sounds pitchy and terrible to me for the first several bars.
4. Diana- I like Diana. She has a beautiful voice and she is a lot of fun. She needs to get a new dresser. Stat. She nearly always looks dreadful, but if you don't watch her perform, she has a very pleasant voice.

The Dreadful
5. Jasmine- She was really pitchy this week. She is the most inconsistent singer out there. You know how they say that every person has five songs that make them sound like an amazing singer. I haven't figured out whether she's been through her five song repetoire or if she just has "on nights" and "off nights." That said, I think she is the cutest girl out there, and she actually wears clothes that are her right size, which is more than you can say about most of the other female contestants.
6. John Stevens- I know, I know, DH and I *were* quite probably the only people who enjoyed this performance. Yes, he was too soft and under pitch consistently throughout the song. But, this was the first time I saw any personality out of this one. Also, he wasn't as dreadful as some of the others, and defintely not as bad as last week.
7. Jennifer-OK, I really like Jennifer certain weeks, but never consistently. I know the judges and apparently everyone else likes her this week. Maybe I like the song too much sung differently. Gad, I thought she was terrible. Maybe I'm watching a different show?
8. JPL-Only better than Camile because he provides me with entertainment. However, I was wondering, did he hit a note right, even by accident, last night?
9. Camile-Why is she still here? She can't sing. She can't dance. She is both thin and flabby. She doesn't even dress pretty.

Hi everyone, I am new and this is my very first post. I just wanted to help defend against all the 'Camille-bashing' that I've read so far, in this thread and others! I agree she has underperformed. But I believe that she really, really does have a wonderful voice. There is an amazing tone to it, a real heart-wrenching soulfulness to it. She should let loose, belt it out, instead of trying to 'hip-hop' with it, which only makes it sound jerky. I think she gets votes b/c many of us (myself incl.) want to see her realize her potential, right in front of America. This pretty girl sorta has this 'ugly duckling/pygmalion/Olivia Newton-John in Grease' appeal.

And kudos to Jennifer Hudson. Way under-rated, in every respect. Last night was far from her only good performance. The way she belted out 'Baby I Love Ya', staving off elimination (Bleah got it), she gained my total and utter respect. If you watched carefully, even Simon was applauding her like I've rarely seen him applaud anyone. And HeatWave? WOW.

I have to agree with you Tigger. I was not at all impressed with Jennifer. It may have been her best performance and she probably shouldn't be in the bottom three due to the awful performances by many. As someone stated before, she used to sign on a DISNEY cruise ship. Probably why she did so well. It has been rehearshed to death.

Johnny Red-I was glad to see that he stepped out of his box and showed personality, but not a great vocal performance.

Camile-time to go bye, bye

Diana-I give her a pass due to the flu. I think she has a great voice.

JPL-not good, but will probably move on due to popularity.

Fantasia - ok performance but I can't stand her

Jasmine-I liked it ok.

LaToya-ok

George-my favorite performance of the night

100. "RE: Week 4 - Best and Worst"
Fantasia- "Something About the Way You Look Tonight"
Absolutely flawless perfomance, IMO. Up until the end. Then came the yeah's. Her outfit was a H E C K of a lot better than the "taco" catastrophe.

JPL- Just cute. nothing mindblowing. Don't ask what song.

Camyuck- Don't remember the song.
Just why? Get packin! Please. Simon basically told her this performance was her last.

George- Something about a pilot. Regardless, the perfomance was hot! He made go to the bookstore to look for the song. Didn't find it. Anybody know which album it was on?

Latoya- "Someone Saved My Life Tonight"???
Shakey beginning. Great finish. Her high notes were totally on point. Her hair looked like a tupae (however you spell it) to me.

Jennifer- "Circle of Life"
I predicted on another post that she would sing this song and ruin it. I stand corrected. This was her best performance all season. Very controlled. She did not do too much. Actually perfect.

John Stevens-"Crocodile Rock"
I am having a real spelling block today. Did I spell "Croc..." right? I think he tried his best. Not good enough, Johnny boy.

Jasmine- I don't know why I can't think of the name of that song. It's one of my Elton favs. I think she did good.

Diana- "I'm Still Standing"
Was that a pink bra strap showing on her uncovered shoulder?
She tried to work the audience. Didn't work for me. She sounded okay though. Just okay. Simon did not comment on her performance.

It's from the album entitled "Elton John", released in 1970. Here's a link with all the listed songs, including lyrics.

Sadly enough, I have both the album and CD (showing my age).

And to everyone here - Even though I don't usually post in this forum, I do follow the show and enjoy reading everyone's posts. Just didn't have anything new to add. *waves to the AI forum*.

Take Me to the Pilot - from Elton John's first U.S. album titled "Elton John"

Breezy asked earlier if the original song sounded "mowtownish". Elton recorded this song as a rock song, but it had some pop sound to it with all the Na,na,nas.

101. "Take Me to the FInal 2!"
Best- George

He has such an infectious personality and such joy in what he does that he draws you in each week no matter what the music genre. He honestly loves what he does and it shows, he is the whole package.

Worst- John and Camille

Not the worst voices or even performers but they look just miserable out there and do not have the same joy as George. Geroge's joy powers his voice while these 2 nervousness and uncomfortableness weaken their voices. They need practice and not practice on a national stage!

Well, this will earn me the dislike of many board members I'm sure, but...I'm NOT a George Huff fan. At all. His voice is better than about half the people left in the competition, but his bouncing, his fake-innocence and eye-batting and smiling after he finishes a song, the way Randy drools over him...all getting very old, very fast. Having prefaced my rankings:

1. Latoya - Wow! Cool, calm, collected, with power. There's not room for both her and Jennifer, and right now, Latoya is doing better.

2. Jasmine - Again, many people will disagree with me...but I have a crush on this cute Hawaiin girl, so leave me alone!

3. Jennifer - Very good. I like her voice, if not her presentation.

4. Fantasia - by default. I didn't like any of the other performances other than these 4 ladies'.

5. George - the best of the worst (IMO!)

Do 6 thru 9 really matter?

6. Diana

7. JPL - the sooner the Mormon Hobbit goes, the better. But there were two performances that were much worse.

8. Camille - only marginally better than Red.

9. Red - enough said.

I would put my money on Camille going this week, because Red has the luck of having a devoted fan base that will vote for him no matter what.

Nuke- even though I love George to pieces, I wanted to give a shout out to you because it looks like you are new and so am I.

I have to say that the description you gave of George, I would apply to Diana. She is just dumb all around.

thanks for your opinion!

Peace

Yah, I would agree with you - Diana is FAKE. I dunno what happened to her...she was good the first week, I thought, but it has been downhill since then.

I am indeed new! I've been lurking on teh Survivor boards forever...I always intended to sign up, but never got around to it.

Newbies have to stick together until they at least have 50 posts.

Cheers,

Nuke

April 6th Show

Best
1. Jennifer - This was a great performance. She is really showing her competitive spirit. I am so glad that she stopped bucking her eyes so much when she sings. That was really distracting.

2. George - Another great performance. He shows so much energy and personality on stage. I am starting to worry about his voice. It was sounding sort of raspy.

3. LaToya - My favorite Idol. Another job well done. I think she has an outstanding voice but I am afraid that her reserved personality is making it hard for her to connect more with the audience.

Good
4. Jasmine - I think she is talented but she did have pitch problems. I think she has potential. She has spunk. She is gracious. I like her.

5. Fantasia - She did good as always but this was not her best performance. She has the strongest stage presence. I am afraid that her diva attitude may either make her or break her.

6. Diana - I think Diana has talent but compared to the others, it is easy to forget her. You remember the other contestants by either how good they were, how bad they were, or personality alone. I think she needs to become more competitive and find a way to stand out more.

Worst
7. Jon Peter - I enjoyed him better when he was dancing. He hasn't been the same since they told him to stop dancing. He looked like he was having so much fun.

8. Camille - Personally, I like her a lot. I agree with Simon. She is way out of her league. I predict that she will be leaving the show soon (or will be receiving tons of sympathy votes).

9. John S. - His downfall is that he can only sing one way. To be a performer, you have to be versatile. You can't stay in the same mode and expect to grow.
