Why is it that Anoop shows so much more personality when he was at the premiere than he does when he sings on stage? It was cool that they used the save this week but moreso that they used it on Matt. He needed a confidence booster. Plus, like somebody said somewhere, it is better to go from 7 to 5 than from 6 to 4. Now as long as that doesn't hurt Kris or Adam (no real chance of it hurting Adam, I don't think), I can be happy about it.   Top

"We didn't get a chance to talk last night, Kris...you were brilliant" And Danny got a positive call out from Randy: "We didn't get a chance to talk last night, Dude you worked it out, you did your thing, Danny, you worked it out" Danny was asked about Simon's comments...I think he handled it well. But it creates a moment of doubt for Danny. Earlier Adam got to talk about QT's mentoring and Allison about the premiere. Positive strokes for those two. Never in the bottom three: Adam, Danny and Kris.   Top

(Not that he's not talented, but come on...he's not likely to win, either.) I think it was right before he was in the 'pimp' spot that he was in the bottom. Does anyone else remember? I guess I should have read the whole thread first. mhdallas, I'm not sure people are voting for him because he's "cute". Well, sure maybe some people are. I can only speak for myself but I am a HUGE fan of his brand of singer/songwriter types. I started noticing that he possesses a quiet, cool confidence and that is intriguing. His "Ain't No Sunshine" was superb. It was impossible for me to not become a fan after that. I remember wondering how he made top three of his group. I know now. And I also remember that he has never been in the bottom three.   Top

So all that is left of no bottom three visits is him, Danny and Adam. I don't think it is just that he is cute, but the cute and harmless thing doesn't hurt when getting a certain segment of the tween vote, or even some of the older vote. He does have a good voice. I tend to find him a bit on the bland and forgettable side, but for me that usually means they can actually sing. The ones that can't sing well are not forgettable, I remember the really horrendous performances.   Top

"RE: I8 Top 7 Results Show 4/15" You would remember Kris more if the show made more of him. His audition was but a blip on the screen with the quick cuts they do of the "others who made it through". He wasn't seen much in Hollywood except in the group of 4 (which was with Matt. Quick! What's Adam's background story? And Danny's? And Lil's? Now what's Kris's? "America" picked him out in the semifinal round; he wasn't even a wildcard pick. He has been buried/sung in the first half of the show 4 of the 6 times from top 12/13 on. (Contrast that with Adam singing in the last half of the show 5 out of 6 times from top 12/13 on). Even this week, they cut down on his screen time after he sang with a rushed "critique" (if that's what you can call what Randy said to him *insert eye roll here*) because they spent time with the judges screwing around with Ryan before his segment. He is barely on stage. I'd bet that he has had less on screen time than any of the remaining contestants. Even last night, Adam and Allison got the "positive" questions from Ryan on the results show. (re: QT's mentoring and the premiere) Kris is pitch perfect and rarely has had even a bum note (maybe never?). He is humble and unassuming but as Glow said, has a quiet confidence. He was not part of the show's early agenda, but as long as the fans carry him, that's ok until he starts getting in the way of their agenda to get Adam and Allison to the F3 or F2. I'm concerned for Disco week because that's when the band can overshadow the singer. Sigh. But AI is what it is and I'm glad for the great performances we already have from Kris. Kris can be successful in the Cat Stevens, Jim Croce, James Taylor, Jackson Browne and other singer/songwriters type of way. But he is not part of the main agenda this year.   Top

I'm actually not that worried about next week because it's Disco week. I'm worried about next week period. I'm guessing I'll be voting. The only problem I see there is that people will vote for who they feel is in danger and that leaves the favorites in danger. You know what I mean? Like, if everybody rushes to vote for Kris, what happens to Adam? ~I used them as an example because that is my worry.~ But yeah. I don't think Kris will have a problem because it's "Disco" week. oh and I really think they like Kris. Kara always mentions his artistry. They opened that up quite a bit last year (Jason, Brooke) and even more so this year, I think (Kris, Scott, lots of other people that auditioned that I can't think of). Maybe they wouldn't mind marketing an artsy, indy style singer/songwriter type. But they're likely not banking on him to win, just to get far enough so they can make money off him.   Top

Unfortunately,though,it also shows that, likable or not, Kris just isn't very memorable - and I agree wholeheartedly that AI hasn't shown enough of his background to make him more memorable, outside of the one time they let him talk about his wife, which I thought was sweet. Kris is a very good singer, there's no doubt about that. He's just not an exciting performer - but then again, neither was John Denver and he still has a huge following. Kris will be all right - his type of music is great for the majority of mainstream America. Myself, I prefer performers with more of an edge (which is why I like Adam so much - he's truly unique). Of course,the fact that I can't remember much about Kris could also simply be the result of ongoing dementia - I have so much going on in my life that sometimes it's all I can do to remember my own name!   Top

The show has ways to make you remember someone. It can happen in the judges' comments, especially if they heap on the superlatives. Or they say direct perception shaping things like "You're the one to beat", "You're through to the final", "see you at the end", "you are the frontrunner". Hmmm. Maybe next season I will keep a separate tally of the perception comments in the pimpage thread. Or put interesting musicians beside you as you perform, like Kat McPhee with the box drums. Or give you super pimpage lighting. Go back and look at the lighting treatment they gave Adam this week. That didn't just "happen". That was produced like a show. Or have Ryan reinforce your likeability. Notice who Ryan banters with after the judges' give comments. His treatment ranges from 1) straight up give the numbers for calling to 2) reengaging the judges about their comments (this can actually be a positive or a negative), to 3)bantering with the contestant about their name, their tats, etc., 4) to interacting with the contestant in a unique way: --rubbing Chikeze's head --jumping up and down with Taylor doing the "Woos!" --laying on the floor with Taylor as he gave the numbers There's who gets the solos in the group numbers, who gets more of a spotlight in the before the singing starts videos or in Ford videos, in the results night questions and banter...and on and on. And I could get started on singing order but instead check out the pimpage thread. It's where we keep track of how the show shapes perceptions.   Top
