Nigel Lythgoe going away: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26015057/It gives me hope that they are finally making the long overdue changes that are necessary. Please, please let Paula and Randy be next.

I dunno, I don't have much hope that anyone that replaces Nigel is going to do anything too radical to the show.Although casting singers with talent other than a failed career would be refreshing.

They've already made one major change: the Puerto Rico auditions telecast won't be more than four hours long. It'll be hard to stretch out 300 applicants into anything over that.

I actually think that Nigel quitting COULD be a good thing. Bringing someone else in new to replace him could be the fresh blood the show needs right now.Secondly, Paula and Randy are not going anywhere. Accept that and move on. As posted back in May, some of the changes I would like to see for next season are: * No themes for the top 24/20/16. Let them pick the songs again. I hated the theme week for those weeks. * Mentors. I think this should be completely cut. * Themes. Make them current and broad. Themes have been too 'old' for the past couple of years. * Crazy idea. Have a couple of theme-free weeks where the contestants can pick anything. I know, I'm crazy. * AI is the #1 show. Charge more for advertising, cut the advertising minutes, and give the kids more than 90 seconds to sing a song. * Drastically cut back on the audition shows. DRASTICALLY. I could go without ANY audition shows, and more Hollywood, and possibly even more than 24 finalists. Another crazy thought. * SHOW AUDITIONS FOR ALL OF THE TOP 24 CONTESTANTS. * SHOW ALL OF THE TOP 24 PERFORMING IN HOLLYWOOD. * I would like to see more of what goes on during the week with song selection, arrangements, practice, etc. * I would raise the minimum age to 18, and raise the maximum age to 30. I think 16/17 is too young for all the stress and time away from home. geekboy "I love puppies!" - S. Cowell

Anyone else think that it's more than just a coincidence that on Saturday August 2nd Idol auditions in Puerto Rico draw only 300 people and on Monday August 4th Nigel is suddenly "moving on"?

LAST EDITED ON 11-04-08 AT 03:28 PM (EST)is this true & what will it change? i'm not 100% sure what you're saying. i like some of the themes, i don't think they need them every single week, they didn't used to, if you've been watching since the beginning like me. i like some of the mentors, but they could update some of them, i don't think the theater week(s) were really necessary, especially since it's a contest for a pop singer. no?? hey, anyone heard of idol mania live?? http://celebrityeventsgroup.com/idol.html i want to check it out! ticketmaster is allready selling tix.
