Ryan -- will put together three groups of three, one will be bottom three group. Taylor starts first group of three. Mandisa, starts another group. Elliott, join Mandisa. Paris, join Mandisa and Elliott. Ace, start a new group. Kellie, join Taylor. Chris, join Taylor and Kellie. Katherine and Bucky, join Ace. Ryan spending a lot of time asking who will be bottom three. Taylor, Kellie and Chris are all safe. Who is leaving? Ryan finds it necessary to repeat the contestants' names (which he did 5 seconds ago) before we go to break.

AWESOME siggie, Glow, a true work of art. I agree with Glow and Boner. Also, America got it 100% right this week ALL 3 deserved to be in the bottom based on this week's performances. Mandisa has been less-than-stellar since week 2, with too much screaming & I think her comments last week were the main reason she is out this week (although her days were numbered.) She started the show strong & has fallen each week. I think she's great "backup singer" material. My advice to her, go work for Barry she'll learn and grow and we may see more of her with some of Barry's tutelage. Paris is the next one who is skating on really thin ice. She has been choosing bad songs showing her vocal weaknesses each week. I partly blame the Judges, because she is not getting any constructive criticism. IMO it's between her and Ace on who should go next. Ace may do better than her with Queen, we'll see. Like Nailbone said, all the contestants are really talented in their own way and there will be outrage each week. I'm guessing the next thing will be the rehashed "yearly" rumor that AI is racist. People get ugly & don't see the big picture. They all have their foot in the music & show business door at this point & it is up to them what they do with it. All the remaining contestants will be doing something after this. Kind Creation of ARNutz

LAST EDITED ON 04-06-06 AT 02:31 PM (EST)Did anyone see the shock on some of the remaining contestants faces? And the crowd was dead silent when Ryan said Mandisa was going home. I do think Mandisa should have sung another song. I thought she would have sung something by Martina McBride like "Independence Day" or something that requires a strong, powerful vocal. ETA: I just want to say that I personally was not shocked. I think she picked the wrong song, and I had read all the speculation about her use of the word "lifestyle". My personal opinion is that there are less talented people still in the contest, but Mandisa already had a good career, and she will have an even better one after this.

Mandisa will do fine out in the real world. American Idol I feel doesn't really judge those who make it in the music industry. Its because the American public votes for who they would like to win and not whose record they would buy. Don't get me wrong, the show is great entertainment and sometimes the person we want to see win is the person whose records we want to buy, but not always. Kevin Covais was someone that we all enjoyed (well most of us at least, but in reality I don't see too many people rushing out to buy a Kevin Covais record. Thats just my opinion. I wanted to see Mandisa win and I would love to own a Mandisa album. Even if she doesnt make a big splash in the major music industry she will be very popular in the Christian music circles.

Here's my 2 cents, for what it's worth. I think Mandisa PO'ed her primary voters with the whole homophobic thing. I think she had the Barbra Streisand vote locked up and it bit her in the butt. Heck yeh, she had one of the better voices and probably the best female pipes. You have to know your audience, she lost hers with her anti-gay views.

chickgigi...Can you please explain to me why Christianity = Homophobe? I dont think her spiritual views had anything to do with her leaving. Her song and clothing choices were horrible. And with sub-par vocals those two weeks -- she was her own downfall. I just do not get all the Christian-bashing I have been reading here the past few weeks. I thought we were her to pick on Kellie's fake persona and Elliot's bad hair... Archon "You can get more with a 2x4 and a kind word than with just a kind word." (Marcus, B5)

For me it isn't just that she is a Christian she must be sort of homophobe (or whatever other sterotype you want to drop in) arguement. For me I can see people be concerned about the way she mentioned lifestyle because of how others use that particular word in their verbal attacks on gay people. There have been some very bad behavior on the part of some Christians lately, and that can effect how other people are seen when they use certain language. It brings up the question of did she use it innocently, or did she mean it in the other ways that sort of language is used. We don't know what she meant, but too many others before her have used that sort of language to incite people. Usually the problem isn't so much that one has a strong faith, it is how much an individual needs to flaunt that faith. The whole I gotta tell you just how holy I am sort of thing. Even other Christians often find the behavior of some people on TV who claim to be ever-so-Christian to be obnoxious. The sect I grew up in was very much if you have to tell people what your religion is then you aren't being true to the faith sort of view. I could have sung a gosple song in the competition, but adding the spoken words like she did would have been frowned on. I want to know you are a good person because of your behavior. Not because you tell me how Christian you are.

I did not see last night's show yet but, of course, reading this thread, I know how it turned out. When did Mandisa do anything homophobic? Was it last night? And when she sang last week, the preachy tone that some have mentioned did not jump out at me. I agree with others that have said primarily song choice has done her in...and wardrobe is right behind. I would love to know how song choice is handled--how limited are they in their selections due to the show needing to obtain rights to the songs, and how much are they 'steered' in the wardrobe area? Sadly, I think many people enjoyed Mandisa but fell into the enjoy-her-but-did-not-bother-to-vote for her mode. Hey, I am one of them because no one has motivated me enough to vote for weeks now.

Mandisa has listed in her bio that her favorite writer is Beth Moore. As I understand it, she is a Chrstian author that has written about homosexuality as a problem that can be overcome through faith. That coupled with Mandisa's lifestyle comments when she sang the gospel song is what people are referring to.

I first heard about it here, it's been a hot topic on several boards apparently. I personally just thought she sounded bad on Tuesday and I loathe Shania Twain and halter tops on big girls, so all those combined for me. Interestingly for me, I didn't see Elliot perform, I jsut heard him as I was in another room. I thought he sounded great. When I watched the recap at the end, he looked so goofy that I forgot how great he sounded.

It amazes me that Mandisa is being punished for singing a religious song. Yet, Carrie Underwood sings her first single, "Jesus Take the Wheel" and no one is screaming she is too religious or homophobic. How hypocritical is that? Kelli sucked during Stevie Wonder week and didn't end up in the bottom three. Kevin Covais couldn't sing and he lasted for weeks. But plus sized, gospel singing Mandisa has a fashion miss and a bad song choice and she is railed against. All it took was the homophobic thing to get going and she is gone.

Shocked? No. But a little surprised. Let's face it . . . Mandisa has spent the past two weeks wandering in the valley of the mediocre after a brilliant week two performance (American Idol really should hire Barry Manilow away from Vegas and have him work with these contestants every week - the listeners would be mighty grateful ) She certainly wasn't the worst on Tuesday - I disliked Paris, Elliot, Bucky, Katharine, and even Taylor more - but unless you're a prohibitive frontrunner (she's not, that's reserved for Taylor and Chris) or knock it out of the park (she didn't), you're always in danger. She was definitely felled before her time, but these past two weeks gave me serious doubts that she ever would have been a serious contender for the title.

Hi, I'm new to this board, but felt like pointing out the obvious. People go home because they get the LOWEST NUMBER OF VOTES. That isn't to say they are the least popular. There are fans who are more than happy to dial 300 times. To me, when I call if it's busy, oh well. This speaks more to the persistence of some fans than to the talent or likability of the contestant. Personally, I enjoy "never knowing" exactly what can happen, it keeps it interesting. But I will be darned if I turn into a phone dialing maniac because that is how AI has chosen to set up the system. I am entirely too busy to sit and dial the phone for two hours. (like make posts about how I won't dial a phone???) Just my two cents.

Not enough fan base to recover from it this time. Its a shame, but losing AI is not the worst thing that can happen for your career... She'll find a place in the Christian music circle -- which is fine -- it's probably where she wants to be anyway... Archon "You can get more with a 2x4 and a kind word than with just a kind word." Yes? >Why does everyone think that "lifestyle" has to be about gays? What if you are a gambler and have gambled everything away... or an alcoholic... or a drug addict... or you beat your kids. Are these not all "lifestyle" choices, addictive chains, that freedom from would be welcome?

because - as has been noted several times on this and other threads - she listed a homophobic author as her American Idol on her official bio. I was surprised by the uproar initially too until Ithat was clarified. Personally, I don't think being homosexual is a lifestyle "choice" I also don't think it is a disease like addiction that needs a cure.

But is this ALL this Beth Moore preaches? Or a very small part of her message that has been blown out of proportion? And can one not "agree" with a homosexual's choice in "lifestyle" without being labeled "homophobic"? (Which literally means "a FEAR of homosexuals.)For what it's worth, just because one likes a particular author doesn't mean one agrees with everything they say. My husband's favorite talk radio host is Rush Limbaugh, but DH doesn't in any way think everything Rush says - or the way he says it - is right on. Sounds a bit "cospiracy theorist" to me. Like something started by the haters. Guess they succeeded.

I haven't read any of her books, but I am sure that the "sin" of homosexuality is not the sum and total of her message. She's not Fred Phelps or anything. However her books do bear such titles as "When Godly People Do Ungodly Things: Arming yourself in the age of Seduction" and "Breaking Free" so I also feel confident in saying that overcoming whatever she considers deviant sexuality is not a minor themeMaybe that in and of itself isn't homophobic, but it's (IMO anyway) offensive. Homosexuality isn't something that needs to be treated or overcome. She seems (from what i've been able to come up with a quick internet search) to focus primarily on women and women's devotionals. Of course, you don't agree with everything your favorite author says, but if you didn't relate to them or admire them a lot - would you list them out of all the people you know and/or admire as your personal American Idol? As I said to nailbone yesterday, if I said Mein Kampf was my favortiite book and Adolph Hitler was my favorite writer, it wouldn't mean I was definitely a Nazi, but it would tell you an awful lot about who I am. I have no way of knowing, or really any interest in knowing what Mandisa's views on homosexuality are. But I'm sure she's probably aware of what Beth Moore's are. Who knows if it effected her vote totals or not. I think that two sub-par performances probably had more to do with it. But this didn't help her any.I dont know how big of a deal this is anywhere other than AI and GL interest boards. It certainly changed my feelings toward Mandisa. But I wasn't voting for her anyway,

Although i was convinced that Paris was going home (could it be because i WANTED her to go home...??) I was not completely shocked when it was Mandisa. I knew it wasn't Elliot...I'm bummed, but not "shocked". Going into the final 12, my two favorites were Taylor and Mandisa, both because they were not 'cookie cutter' stars, but they had the pipes and they brought a little something unique to the table. Now, already one of my favorites is out, and i'm convinced it was due to shoddy song selection. I have no problem with Mandisa praising Jesus for where she is today. I have absolutely no problem with her faith and beliefs. But, at the same time there is a large chunk of the voting community that does. So last week she sang a powerful, yet some could claim preachy, song. She sang it very well, but i think that was blow #1, the song itself. Now, this week she comes in with a song that is perhaps out of her league, although i've said many times she can sing anything. I think she proved me wrong. She cannot sing Shania's "Any Man Of Mine" very well. Perhaps the key was off, but ... it was a poor choice of songs. I'll miss you Mandisa and I wish you the best, but Taylor PLEASE take note as to what poor song selection results in. Count your blessings right now because i think your song selection was worse than Mandisa's. I remember singing that song in grade school music class. Its NOT an American Idol song. geekboy

Another thing about the song choice - Any Man of Mine. To me, it had a "rap" feel to it. And I think that made it more off track. She tried to do something with the song that just didn't work.I too have no problems with bringing religion to it. I think she is very powerful, and I have liked her in the past. Sometimes I think her power gets away from her, and she does end up screaming or shouting - unneccessarily. I'm not shocked at all. I thought she would have gone further, but based on performances from Tuesday, this was the right decision.

I didn' thave a problem with her singing gospel either. I love gospel music and didn't find it inappropriate. I like it when the performers are comfortable enough to be themselves and sing songs that matter to them, even if that involves a risk. But the Beth Moore thing changes that, at least for me.

I'm starting to think it's more than song choice. I don't really think these guys choose their outfits without a lot of pressure to "wear this, try this look." Taylor looked really uncomfortable, almost as if that wasn't the song he wanted to sing, he had a different look last week, they want him to dye his hair. The unique and interesting people seem to get "AIdolized" into something bland . . .

LAST EDITED ON 04-06-06 AT 01:16 AM (EST) Sad to say, mandisa's 'eviction' from AI means she most likely wont have a career in holywood. look at Latoya London and Tamyra Gray who are way way way way way prettier and more talented than mandisa. where are they now? She will probably end up (as) a broadway actress or a hotel/club back-up singer. nothing more. I mean, realistically speaking.

Really...It would truly suck to be a broadway star and have hit running show for 4-5 years... Horrors... Broadway is perfect for a woman like her. Big voice, big presense, and pleasing to the eye. Why do I constantly hear this knock on Broadway whenever I visit AI boards? Only the most talented singers, actors and performers in the entire world wind up on Broadway. It is as stupid to say a not good enough for AI contestant should try Broadway as it is to say a poor minor league baseball player should try the NY Yankees. It takes light years more talent to be on Broadway than it takes to be on AI.

I know that. Foreign actors who made it to broadway have been received by their countrymen as heroes. Look at Filipino Lea salonga of Miss Saigon. But Would you rather be an A star on broadway or in Holywood? Of Course Holywood as it commands more fame, money, and what-have-you. What i was trying to say was she is not a Holywood material. Her great talent will best suit her as a broadway or wedding/funeral/club singer.A decent job, nothing wrong.

>>It is as stupid to say a not good enough for AI contestant should try Broadway as it is to say a poor minor league baseball player should try the NY Yankees<<THANK YOU!!! This is an argument I have tried to make a few times before. Failing at AI IN NO WAY indicates that you are qualified to perform on Broadway. The very idea that Broadway may be thought of as a consolation prize infuriates me. My argument: Musical theater requires ACTING and SINGING at the same time. Musical theater on BROADWAY requires the BEST acting and singing at the same time. If someone is such a poor singer that they can't handle a pop tune, they have NO CHANCE with Sondheim, or Yestin, or - well, any other musical theater composer. If a singer is such a poor actor that they can't tell a story and look sincere and real for 60 seconds of pop singing, how on earth could they act an actual ROLE in a stage show?

Tamyra Gray appeared on the big screen in 2005's The Gospel. Aside from sitcom work, albums and broadway you can go here if you are really curious as to where she is now: http://www.tamyra-gray.com/frames.php.LaToya London may not have the career of no singing Jessica Simpson or her sister, but she has released a couplel of albums that are quite enjoyable.

Queen Latifah is more popular as a commedienne than as a singer. Anybody know what happened to her jazz album? it was good but nobody listened. could it be because her weight is more tolerated in the comedy business than (in) music? Plus Queen Latifah maybe overweight but not 200 pounds overweight. And she carries her weight very well. her figure is nicely full an proportioned. You have probably seen Chicago. Mandisa.on the other hand, has a very beautiful face but her 'hippo' or elephant-like trunk is not pleasing to the eyes. You may say it about Aretha but not Queen Latifah. Sorry for comparing Mandisa to a hippo or an elephant but this is how it looks like from behind. probably most of you think so too.

neither of them were exactly Mandisa-sized when they gained their fame in the pop music world; neither was Queen Latifah for that matter.I think Mandisa will find a niche somewhere in the gospel world or maybe in a Broadway show. Who knows. She has shown that she may be a bit one-dimensional with her inability to tone it down in her performance. Even on Broadway, they don't bel every.single.song. She may also find a great gig as Barry Manilow's backup singer. Time will tell. Miscellaneous Ramblings --I do think that no matter what, her comments about lifestyle did her in--people didn't rally around her when she had a lackluster week because they weren't rooting for the underdog anymore.
