OK, so next week is "Songs Of The 21st Century", a.k.a. 2000-2006. Couple thoughts ...* Everyone, including Chris, can remain in their comfort zone * We could definately get our annual dose of 'diva tunes' * Someone will once again pick a "current hit" and get blasted by the judges How did this theme go last year? I'm not remembering much other than Anthony's Backstreet Boys song which got blasted for being too current. I think someone did Celine also (big surprise). geekboy

*scritches*I liked her for the first few weeks, and now I just want someone to put her out of my misery. After she said, "What's a ballsy?" Chris leaned over and said something to her. I think it was, "You're such an idiot, STFU." I mean, really. Her microphone broke, and she still would not S.T.F.U. Slice n' Dice's Sigpic Chop Shop 2004 Daddy must be so proud.

Here's the east coast spoiler thread from that week last season. I remember it well because it was an absolute disaster.Hopefully it will be better this season, but I don't have any delusions of grandeur that it will...when you're stuck picking very recent songs - songs that we've all heard a bazillion times - it's hard not to be compared to the originals because they're so fresh in your mind. Some will probably do really well (Mandisa could do India.Arie or even Alicia Keys and really blow us away, for example) and some will probably suck (Ace, anyone?). I think Elliot should fare well this week...he'll have a ton of songs to choose from that will suit his voice. I HOPE Chris will tone it down a bit and give us some Matchbox Twenty/Rob Thomas. Thankfully, this season, the talent is much deeper than in season's past. Hopefully they'll choose songs that are familiar but not insanely overplayed radio hits. I have no idea what Taylor might do! Got blog?

I was just listening to some CDs and came up on Ray LaMontagne's "Trouble" CD. Taylor should do the title track. He'd blow the audience away. Here's a link: http://www.raylamontagne.com/listen.php Its a great CD, by the way. geekboy

BWAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! Although I do love Mandisa's voice, I didn't see anything on the list that seems perfect for her.I'd love to hear Chris singing a Rob Thomas song. And I agree, he should avoid Nickelback and Creed. Bucky could do Keith Urban.

22. "My list" |
(grrr...don't have time to finish the list now so this will be part one)I'd thought about this when this thread was initial posted and I've got some ideas about what these folks should be singing to suit their voices/styles (or to suit their fan bases in the cases where nothing really suits their "voices"). I took a look at their bios to get ideas of what they MIGHT sing, too. I'd love to hear Chris slow it down and do some Rob Thomas/Matchbox Twenty. He can still stay true to his rock roots without making it a big production (and without doing a cover of a cover). I'd like to hear him do Bent or Bright Lights. But, just as I would've liked to hear Bo do Drops of Jupiter last season, I'd LOVE to hear Chris do it this season. He'd really show people how talented he is by slowing it down a bit. Mandisa would blow us away if she did India.Arie's Video (a song that would not only be fitting vocally, but the message is perfect) or one of Alicia Keys' hits off her first album. She is one of the few vocalists AI has seen who could really pull off Alicia Keys. I think this could be Elliot's week to shine. He's got a TON of great material to choose from. He could do Usher (his bio says he's a big Usher fan) but I think he'd be better off doing someone with a little more soul as he's got a great voice for that. John Legend, Glenn Lewis, and Anthony Hamilton would be excellent choices for him. So High (John Legend) would be my first choice, but I worry that it's too new (the album came out more than a year ago, but the single hasn't been out more than three or four months, IIRC). There's a Glenn Lewis song on the Maid in Manhattan soundtrack that would be a perfect fit for Elliot's voice. I would LOVE for him to do it! Got blog?
