"2 votes don't get you in??"
Last night the girl who wore the fishnet outfit only got 2 votes. Paula and Simon voted for her. Randy and Brandy said no. How is it she still got to go to hollywood.

When those 2 twins were voted on they got 2 votes but did not go. Someone else later last night got 2 votes and did not go. The one common factor is that Simon did not vote for them.

My question is why is it that if Simon likes them they go through, but if he doesn't they go nowhere. It doesn't seem right. Does anyone remember this happening?

So, yes, I believe that it is up to Simon.
Maybe someone else has something more definitive.

I'm not going to go back and check the tapes, but my impression was that the "celebrity" judge didn't REALLY have a vote. Sure, they let them say what their "vote" is, because to do anything less would be embarassing for the celebrity.
But I believe Randy, Simon and Paula decide. Get two of those votes and you move on to Hollywood.

Of course, I could be totally wrong. But that was my impression.

These reality show contestants need a reality check!

Yes. That`s correct TeamJoisey.Paula Randy and Simaon are the 'frame work' of the whole program.American Idol is very much about "them" and what they are going to say to each 'wannabe'.Their comments, especially in the later stages, can influence the way in which the voters go.
What do you think?

I think that's right because if Randy says Yes and Paula yes Simon just says they are through, regardless of his opinion.

No bc remember Gene Simmons in New Orleans...he said no with Simon and Randy and Paula said yes but many still did not get through....I think if Simon is one of the two that says yes then it's Hollywood here you come

The celebrity judge does matter because in New Orleans Simon and Gene Simmons on several occasions overuled Randy and Paula. When it is just the three of them Randy and Paula can overide Simon.

Simon holds no more sway than Randy or Paula, it is just that if Simon says yes, Paula most certainly also says yes and on most occasions Randy has said yes anyway.

I think when there was a celebrity judge it took three out of four to get thru, where normally it takes 2 out of 3 to get through.

You're right. I remember Simon and Gene Simmons kept the twin boy banders out the first time they auditioned together. And Randy and Paula said yes.

It seems to be inconsistent. When there are four people voting, two votes sometimes gets you to Hollywood and sometimes it doesn't ???

I think I agree with Angelfood's post

Simon must have the overriding/deciding vote in a tie.

That would seem to explain it.

It wasn't explained on television very well, but in several articles before the season started explained that Simon would have two votes if necessary in cases of ties during the finals with celebrity judges. In one case, I saw Simon say yes creating a 2-2 tie. He then decided not to let the person through with his tie breaking vote, probably because this was the only time Paula and Randy said no (the celebrity judge had said yes).

Ricky, you are probably correct in saying that Simon has the final and overiding vote, after all he is the original founder of the whole IDOL cocept.

I wish they would clarify the voting process on their official website or some thing like that, because it really makes people like myself all confused and unwilling to participate in the future phone voting down the track( and we all know what a farce the voting system has proven to be from previous seasons controversies)

How do you and others feel,Ricky?

actually simon is the deciding vote due to his company is the one putting up the money for the contract to the winner. so in a tie it is his vote that decides if they go through or not.
