"Any interest in ABC's new "Push, Nevada" series?" |
LAST EDITED ON 08-05-02 AT 02:00 AM (EST) I'm just wondering how many of the Mole fans here are thinking of watching ABC's new "Push, Nevada" non-reality mystery series this fall.
I've had a few folks email me asking about it and expressing interest in having us move our collective deductive skills over to that series. Below's ABC's press release on the series. From what I've heard, the money said to be available to the lucky winning viewer is upwards of $500,000. Let me know your thoughts... thanks. Ben Affleck, Oscar-winning co-writer of Good Will Hunting, and Sean Bailey, his executive-producing partner on breakout hit Project Greenlight, take another bold step in the re-invention of modern entertainment. A mild-mannered IRS agent travels to a remote desert region in search of missing money and stumbles into a strange small town where mystery, danger, and peculiar characters lurk around every off-kilter corner. Everyone in Push has a secret, but no one is talking … unless they're telling our man to get out of town, fast. Every word, every sign, every gesture holds a clue toward solving the riddle of Push, Nevada. Each episode has new puzzles to follow and solve, along with a dazzling array of guest stars. In a next-generation twist on reality television, if one viewer can put the evidence together at the end of a multi-episode arc, they'll win the missing money that everyone is after. Uniquely involving, provocative and offbeat, Affleck's and Bailey's groundbreaking concept and sharp writing are destined to turn Push, Nevada into television's latest hot spot. =============================== Production has begun in Santa Clarita, CA, on "Push, Nevada," the provocative and offbeat mystery series that will air THURSDAYS (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. The series is from Ben Affleck, Oscar-winning co-writer of "Good Will Hunting," and Sean Bailey, his executive-producing partner on the Emmy-nominated "Project Greenlight." In "Push, Nevada," mild-mannered IRS agent Jim Prufrock (Derek Cecil) travels to a remote desert town in search of missing money and stumbles on a place where mystery, danger and peculiar characters lurk around every off-kilter corner. Everyone has a secret in Push, Nevada, but no one is talking, unless they're telling Jim to get out of town - fast. Every word, every sign, every gesture could hold a clue to solving the riddle of this tiny Nevada town. The mystery begins when a fax from the Versailles Casino in Push is sent by accident (perhaps) to Jim, alerting him to a sizable accounting error - and an embezzlement scheme involving a fortune in cash. Casino honcho Silas Bodnick refuses to talk about the missing money, so Jim's investigation leads him to Push, where nothing is as it seems. Push is a town where neighborhood couples indulge in synchronized romance each night at 9:15; where the only casino, the Versailles, pays out the biggest jackpots in the state; and where the lonely look for companionship at "Sloman's," a slow-dance bar. It's there that Jim meets Mary (Scarlett Chorvat), a beautiful and enigmatic woman who tells him that the mystery of Push is, "like all the best secrets, not quick in the telling," and warns him to go home before he gets hurt. A determined man, Jim plans to find out what mystery lies behind Push, no matter what the risk. All along the way, a shadowy team of high-tech operatives monitors his every encounter with the town's denizens. Each episode will have new puzzles to follow and solve, along with a dazzling array of guest stars. In a next-generation twist, viewers following "Push, Nevada," the mystery series, will also be able to play "Push, Nevada," the game. Every episode of the show will hold clues to solving the mystery, beginning with the premiere episode, "The Amount." At the end of the 13 episodes, the winner of the mystery contest will be able to claim the stolen money. Sean Bailey, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Chris Moore are executive producers of "Push, Nevada," from LivePlanet in association with Touchstone Television.

LAST EDITED ON 08-05-02 AT 02:07 AM (EST)>If someone from the board wins, >how will we split the >money? *laughs* Well first there's the webmaster's cut, LOL... Seriously, what I'd heard at one point was that "the cash prize buried somewhere in the USA." I don't know if that's still the plan, but given that these were the guys behind the idea of "The Runner" reality TV show, who knows! -SB

Gotta at least give it a try! It sounds a little like "Twin Peaks" quirky, which is fine by me; I love David Lynch! If literally every action, word, innuendo is a clue...then it sounds like it could be way too complicated to be meaningful w/out a good VCR, lots of re-plays and in-depth analysis. Altho, since the prize is a signicant amount of money, ABC would need to make the game/solution more difficult than the ordinary Joe can solve. Of course, no one on this board qualifies as ordinary! Regards,

Hummm...http://www.calendarlive.com/top/1,1419,L-LATimes-TV-X!ArticleDetail-66800,00.html
"The company is betting the show will make a splash among viewers aged 18 to 34 and spawn a cadre of loyal fans who will be obsessed with "Push, Nevada's" side show--an interactive Internet treasure hunt offering more than $1 million." "ABC Entertainment Television Group Chairman Lloyd Braun told Affleck the network is not expecting "Push, Nevada" to finish first or even second in the ratings for that time period. "We just told them to produce a show of great quality in which you can maintain or grow a loyal audience," Braun said. " "At the end of the 13th episode, the person or team that finds the "stolen money" wins the $1-million-plus prize. Said Affleck, "There's nothing like a cheap gimmick to get people to watch your show." "Treasure hunt clues will be revealed during each episode that follows an IRS agent who travels to a strange and corrupt Nevada town. Clues will take the form of room numbers, Web site addresses or fax numbers that flash on the screen. "Push, Nevada" is being pitched as "Twin Peaks" meets "Blair Witch Project." " "The show will cost nearly $2 million an episode to produce, the industry average for an hourlong drama. Disney executives say they expect to make money on the show, but it could bomb if the treasure hunt clues are too difficult, if viewers who miss a few episodes feel they can't keep up with the unfolding story or if the show's creative team devotes too much time to the treasure hunt rather than creating intriguing stories. Another quote from the LA Times link you supplied confirms my apprehension about the show:Disney executives say they expect to make money on the show, but it could bomb if the treasure hunt clues are too difficult, if viewers who miss a few episodes feel they can't keep up with the unfolding story... Well, we will just have to watch to find out for ourselves! Regards,

If ABC were smart and if Push Nevada does well, they should package The Mole with Push, Nevada and Alias on a Tuesday or Sunday night in the future.

I'll watch the first episode or two and see how I like it....most of the Mole viewers should have a decent shot at some of the money, although some viewers might get greedy and decide not to share all of the clues. Since you proboably have to be over 18 to win the cash, I'll just sit back and either help out people I know that are over 18, or just watch CSI and be content.

Count me in! Solving these puzzles sure sounds like a lot more fun than playing "who's the bigger ho?" on the BB board...I think molerons certainly have an advantage over the average tv viewer. Look at all the experience and valuable qualifications in clue-finding we have gained I hope one of us wins this thing, how fun! Do you think we'll be keeping our mouthes shut about clues in hopes of winning the pot, or that we will continue to debate clues and be generally too excited to be able to able to hold a secret?

It sounds like good fun. I guess I dont plan to tape every episode and replay them a million times, because I wouldn't expect to win the money anyway, but it should be cool to watch. Whats the betting that someone who's obsessed with the Mole wins the money?

Blows... the reason, IMO, that the Mole, Survivor, etc. is so interesting for so many viewers is coming to this board (and maybe a few others)to solve puzzles, analyze clues, complain some, boo contestants and cheer others on - - together - - with people I don't even know, but I DO know in a way. TV will never be the same!Push will be so much more interesting if there is a message board to go to and do all of these things... and it seems to have a lot of the ingredients most of us look for and enjoy. You certainly can't have a board for everything, but this just might warrant one.

If your planning on doing a sort of spoilers board for the show, it would be even more fun to watch the show this way.As is, it sounds like a great premise and the commercials are fabulous. Can't wait (c) 2002 IceCat Originals, Inc. All rights reserved. Proud member of the 1000 DAW Club !!!!!

OK, to answer the question, yes, given the apparent level of interest in this show and it's natural similarlity to The Mole and likely appeal to the same type of viewers, I'll be adding a forum (or maybe more if the demand is there) for Push, Nevada....and yes, I know it's technically not a reality TV show, but hey, even the producers term it a "next-generation twist on reality television" -SB
