On the next episode of The Amazing Race… 1. On the speedway… could this be Monaco? Phil: At a high-speed Roadblock..." 2. One team member must ride in an Indy car. 3. Chuck is the claustrophobic (insert the fear-of-small-dark-space joke here) 4. Chuck: “I’m feeling cagey and hot” Phil: ... Chuck has a panic attack. 5. Millie is supportive, but tense. (I think millie’s been tense for about 11.8 years.) Millie: C’mon Chuck ya gotta hustle. Phil: And Tian and Jaree cause a showdown in Marseilles. 6. Group bunch in Marseilles. Visible teams in this sequence are Steve/Dave, Tian/Jaree, Dave/Jeff, Jon/Al, Sheree/Monica, Reichen/Chip. 7. Look, a sign in French! 8. Chip is shocked and appalled at what is going on. If HE’S shocked, it must be good. 9. Tian walks away from the group… Tian: “I’m not even getting involved in this conversation.” 10. …but eventually ends up in the nearby car. 11. Threatening Steve. Steve: Just check your tires when you pull out cause, Oh God, you never know what’s gonna happen. 12. Evil Steve. (AirSoprano) These reality show contestants need a reality check!   Top

The race course is not Monaco since it seems to be in the middle of nowhere whereas the one in Monaco is right smack in the city. Am still looking into possible locations, perhaps the site of the Marseille Grand Prix... Where everyone is standing is a port, the french sign is for a ferry boat. As it is, I have found several possible destinations, namely Corsica, Sardinia, Algeria and Tunisia. Still looking into that too...   Top

And yes, there are something like 7 cruising locations you can go to from Marseilles, places such as Corsica, Mallorca, Sardina, Spain and Tunisia. Barcelona is the most likely 'international' gateway of the cities listed. edited to add: is it possible that they have just arrived in Marseilles by ferry as well?   Top

"RE: Episode 4 preview " So, where are Millie/Chuck, Kelly/Jon, Josh/Father-Whats His Name??? Are they behind or ahead? Probably ahead, I would guess. The group will have to travel from Austria to France first, which is usually where the teams bunch together. Evidence: Look at the time of day between when Monica/Sheree checked in and Steve/Dave. And they still are lumped together. It could be possible that the father-son team continues their lead, but remember when they checked in. We could still see daylight, which is not a good thing. That means they'll have to leave during the night, which usually also leads to bunching. The three teams not at Marseilles might be ahead of the others. All three have been fairly successful in the race, and are athletic. They may have grabbed the first three cars, leaving 1 for the rest of the group. Tian/Jaree grab it, and the fight starts. "RE: Episode 4 preview " true i agree with u. but first of all HOW and WHY did the quarrel start ? is it because tian and jaree pushed their way through and cheated to get the car ? but what i am suprised at is the fight seems to only between tian (where the hell is jaree?) and steve...the other teams there seems confused and practically just standing there....and why the hell are tian and jaree still standing there and arguing ? if they got the car, drive it and go away....maybe there are rules binding them there....well we'll have to see. btw...i'm rooting for tian and jaree..   Top

The two bigger tracks I'm finding links to are Magny-Cours and Le Mans, both much closer to Paris.   Top

Those two track pictures look almost identical to the Le Mans track. Here is a link to a Le Mans site... http://www.racecar.co.uk/lemans2001/trackguide/track.htm If you wait for the graphic to load, it will give you a tour of the whole track. A couple of the pictures look like the two you gave. The track also happens to be just north of Marseilles, so it's likely Le Mans could be it. The painted stripes at the side of the track match the pictures of LeMans (blue and yellow). Magny-Cours is red and white. Do all pit areas look alike? LAST EDITED ON 06-15-03 AT 07:22 PM (EST) The cars appear similar to GTP cars which do run at LeMans and after looking at the LeMans website, the small portion of the track that is an "enclosed" racecourse could be it. The main LeMans course is more than half made from regular roads that are open to the public and only closed around the race (which was this weekend by the way). I know that they are backtracking going to Marsailles but LeMans is much farther north in France (closer to Paris). Could they make them backtrack that far? Seems like a strech to go back that far. But the pit garages also look similar to those shown on the LeMans website. I still tend to think that it is a driving school / test track though. But I've been wrong many times before (including the first version of this post!).   Top

If so, the RB of the race cars already show a big grouping of people. I DON'T see Father and Son or Kelly and Jon. Now if detour is before RB that means the FF is as well. Father and Son can't get the FF which means Kelly and Jon could. Considering they left second to last after last episode I could see them using it at this point. Father and Son we know were at the ferry area b/c Father is in back seat at night but this could be occurring way prior to the RB and involved with transporting them to the detour which presumably is the rapelling. Of course this goes out the window if the detour is after the RB but I thought RB is last (confirm anyone?) With flight patterns etc. nothing is a sure thing. Just trying to think out loud as to where the teams would be "standing" by the race car. It just seems to me that if J/K would take the FF as they are not "seen" at the race car (and which I can't fathom they WOULDN'T do the FF) Father and Son seem to be in the most precarious position. Naturally the commericals might not show them there OR it could be a "we dont' open until 10:00 a.m. allowing others to catch up)   Top

OK, I checked all past TAR seasons (thanks to the helpful summaries) and the Detour is ALWAYS before the Roadblock. And so, Marseilles comes before the race track which means they must be going in and out of Corsica for the detour and then heading North to LeMans (unless there is another nearby track we haven't found) I agree with you, Steve&Josh are in danger, due to the bunching and the fact that geezer can't keep up, same thing goes for Steve&Dave EXCEPT if there is a lot of driving involved (in Corsica and in France) there may be some bad map reading skills which could lead to an unexpected elimination. From Millie's tone of urgency in the commercial "come on Chuck, we gotta hustle" and the time of day vs when Monica&Sheree were there, I think they are in the back of the pack and could be one of those teams in danger I also agree with you about Kelly&John, they are nowhere in the previews and most likely took the FF to stay in the game.   Top

Chip decides it "isn't worth the risk" because someone else is also going for the FF. Cycle, you are on to something here. This IS the answer. Chip is probably just stating the obvious, "It isn't worth the risk". If another team is already on the plane, heading for the FF. OR moreso if 2 teams are on the plane already. Best to be ahead of at least one team. Reichen/Chip do arrive early in the morning at the Ferry. Early enough to get lumped with Tian/Jaree at the front of the bunched group.(S/D,J/A,M/S,D/J,S/J)Whom all arrived at night. Since the FF is usually given out after the first leg but as everyone else heads to the detour, then John/Kelly and Millie/Chuck are on the flight while R/C and T/J are the last(first) to arrive at the ferry to the detour. I wonder if Kelly/John or Millie/Chuck will win the FF. Kelly and John are the only one's not seen doing any of the challenges(racecars or rapelling). I think M/C maybe in big trouble. Because of this...does anyone else think this may be a non-elim. episode? Kinda, too early for that, but it does change each season. Plus we could get 2 more episodes and still have 8 teams for Bombay/Mumbai. tribephyl   Top
