"Episode 12 preview (includes pictures)"
Okay... so there were a few things that intrigued me in the preview, so I vidcapped all the parts with F&M and with R&B (I skipped all the stuff with Team Guido).

Here's the caps:

1. "More questions than answers..."
First... why no Guido caps??? wellll...

Waaaaaay back in Ep 6, we were told that there would be a total of three (and only three) non-elimination pit stops during the course of the race.

The first one was in Ep6. (Karyn and Lenny arrived last, but were eliminated in Ep7)
The second one was in Ep8. (Emily and Nancy arrived seconds behind Team Guido, but were eliminated in Ep9, due to a 24 hours penalty).
The third one was in Ep10. (Team Guido arrived a couple of hours after the frat brothers, but overcame the deficit to beat them by 15 minutes in Ep11).

We all assumed that there would be no pit stop in Ep12, because the previews discussed three teams remaining in the race to the finish... but there WAS a pit stop... Team Guido will be the last to arrive... and we know that there are no non-elimination pit stops remaining.

So Team Guido is the last to arrive... I'm sorry... they have officially been eliminated from the race, despite what the previews would have you believe... they will not make it to the finish line.

Okay... now some comments:

Lawyers lead F&M at one point in the race:

But by the airport, F&M have taken the lead:

(Making reservations)

For people that know airports:
Is this New York or Alaska?

In New York:
The Lawyers barely lead F&M in the race toward the taxis:

BUT... whichever taxi is in the lead is passed, when it must stop at a red light:

(Live action shows taxi carrying camera rapidly pass the taxi that has had to wait at the light.)

Frank and Margarita walking (not running) toward baggage claim (see sign, upper left)... why no rush?

Is this New York (no heavy coats):

Where are they kissing (finish line???):

Zoom of the upper left corner, in B&W to greatly increase contrast:

The Lawyer's legs are shown in a foot race... to the finish line?:

(Note Grass: Not Alaska... possibly Central Park or Liberty Island?)

So who wins? Well... I have no idea... like the post says... I have more questions than answers... but I can say one thing:

There are NO shots of the Guidos completing any of the tasks that F&M and R&B have not already completed... in other words... no footage of Team Guido progressing beyond the final Pit Stop.

You never know what might be up my sleeeve...

Well this explains the 3 dog sleds we can see in the run-in - there are actually 4 - one with Rob, one with Brennan, one with Frank and one with Margarita. Not one for each of the teams, one for each member of each of the two leading teams. No Guidos!!

But we know from the other previews of "next weeks show", that they are mostly red herrings. No views of Guido, does not necessarily mean they are not there!!

I know on the "predict the winner" thread I predicted Frank and Margarita, because that would give CBS their happy ending. I really, really want Rob and Brennan to win. They have played the game without fighting and arguing, or backstabbing, and have gotten to this point despite bad luck with taxi drivers in India.

Thanks for the vidcaps and analysis, sleeeve.

I would like to add my analysis for what it's worth:

1) I was one that said there WOULD be a pit stop here; you can check the voting thread to confirm it.

2) I don't think that the Guidos will be eliminated at this pit stop. I think they would have shown it if they did. What happened is that the other teams are SO far ahead they might have made it to New York by the time America's Team is released. So Phil is on his way to New York to greet the winners; he has no time for losers.

3) About the F&M photos: the conspiracy theorist in me says that they're not running because this is a re-creation, and they know who wins and by how much. A more likely explanation is that they figure it's futile to run to the baggage claim because their bags are probably not there yet.

As for the kissing photo, that sure looks like NYC's coat of arms in the background. If I had to guess I would say it's the finish line, at Liberty Island, and they won.

4) The Lawyers are running hard because they're behind and they know it. Not too far, though.

Some comments:

1. I think all the vidcaps where Frank is wearing his red jacket are in NYC. So, yes, F&M are walking towards baggage claim in one shot, but they are *running* behind/beside Rob & Brennan in another shot. My guess: whatever happens in Alaska, they all end up on the same flight to NYC.

***Edited to add: the shot of F&M in the airport with red bars on the windows is in Anchorage - we see the same place in a shot of the Guidos arriving earlier in the episode***

2. In the same vein, perhaps all the shots with Frank wearing his black cap are in Alaska, including the kissing scene.

3. Along with a race by taxi, and a foot race, if you freeze-frame the very last shot of the preview, there is a flash of a subway train zooming past (no contestants in the shot). Is the shot of R&B running up stairs perhaps a shot of them running up out of the subway? Perhaps any posters from NYC can comment....

Thoughts on the Guidos...

We were told there were 3 non-elimination spots, but we were also told there were only 8 elimination points.

Thus the speculation there would be no pitstop in Ep12.

So unclear what will happen to the Guidos.

There is clearly contradictory information being broadcast by this show.

They stated that there were only 3 non-elimination rounds. Lenny-Karen, Nancy-Emily, and Guido's account for all three. They also stated that China was the last elimination. Clearly this Alaska pit-stop is either an elimination round or a non-elimination round. They need to get their story straight!

And while i'm here, my tape shows Frank and Margirita running not walking to the baggage claim. I think you need to take a second look at that one.

END OF PREVIEW

----------------------

For what it's worth, my take....

First of all, the fact that it was the "season finale" and not the "final episode"... makes it seems like this will be a franchise like Survivor and here's hoping we can expect more TARs even beyond the next one!

I think these clips are obviously out of sequence, as evidenced by the scenes of them opening the envelopes in Alaska. The envelopes say something like journey to New York for the finish line. Frank freaks out and beats his chest because not only is it the end but they are going home to New York. The clips are all out of order in quick succession to provide suspense and excitement and is typical of how every preview has been edited. I don't think the Lawyers running up the subway stairs means they are behind, they're just running because they don't know how far ahead or behind they are.

The Guidos are seen in Alaska but not New York. This is highly indicative that they are so far out of it that the producers aren't even bothering with them. Just like last night, we hardly saw anything of what they did. The story was the neck and neck between Frangarita and the Lawyers, and for once the Guidos have the role of Christams Tree Ornament #4.

Looks like it will be a GREAT conclusion.

Edited because all the scene decriptions in "< >" disappeared.

I think the clip that shows Frank "Freaking out" is because
he just got out of the water! notice he has no shirt on, if you slow the tape you can see that he is shaking water, there is snow in the background and Margarita is wearing a heavy coat!

9. "RE: Frank's Assessment of Rob +1"
As quoted above, Frank has again implied that the Lawyers are relying on F&M to lead the way. It seemed early on, when they formed an alliance, that Frank simultaneously broke said alliance and at the same time made several accusations regarding R&B having no intentions of keeping their word. I think he also made comments regarding R&B using them to keep up, just as we saw again in the recent previews of the final. I only remember one instance back then in which R&B even hesitated about giving information to F&M, and they ended up sharing it without much deliberation. This has always really bugged me about Frank. In part this might be because I'm partial to the Lawyers and they seem to have pretty lousy luck, especially compared to F&M (note: I was ready to smash my t.v. when F&M got the same business class seats that R&B had declined in order to follow the rules. Afterwards, when it was revealed that they were all in fact on the same flight, I calmed down but was then caught up in the whole matter of the rules, and who can get away with bending them). All that aside, I think Frank's claims of distrust in R&B without any supporting evidence clearly betrays his own scheming motives. I don't recall R&B ever really benefiting from F&M's decisions, and clearly any team that made it into the top three had to have some skills. F&M have done really well and have been ahead for so much of the race. I hope if they come in first that Frank will not be an ungracious winner. If they come in second I'm glad that it will be Margaritaville who has to hear his whining and not me. I hope their kid doesn't learn how to treat her by watching Frank.

I'd like to see Frank and Karen locked in a room together and see who can survive with any self-esteem left. And I thought my relationship was troubled.

P.S. It looks like CBS actually had the nerve to put their logo on Sleeeve's copyrighted screen grabs! ;)

12. "RE: Frank's Assessment of Rob +1"
Sctes - regarding the business class seats. Here's my take. Lawyers were 40 minutes ahead of FM at the airport. They tried to get seats and all that was left was business class. I think the rules say you can't BUY business class, so they asked if someone else could be upgraded. We are left not knowing what happens or what flight they'll get on.

Then, 40 minutes later FM come in and try to buy seats. They get a different agent. They are told they can purchase business class, but at coach price. Therefore, they get the good seats but pay only what they were supposed to for them. They got an unasked for upgrade.

If you've traveled much you know that things like this happen. It's luck of the draw. If you arrive at the right minute you might get a favor which someone else asked for a little while ago and can't get. I traveled last week on United and because our plane was so empty they chose two passengers to upgrade to first class while we were on the ramp right before we flew - just did them a favor and we all had an opportunity, just didn't win the draw.

The funny part of it all and one of the features of the show that is either great or terrible depending on how you view it - Lawyers get there 40 minutes ahead (and eventually got seats somehow - who knows how?) and end up in the back seats. FM get there later and fly at the front of the plane and therefore get the lead in the race when they leave the plane.

All in all at this point it makes no difference at all since every flight is an equalizer when couples are on the same plane. It will be interesting to see how they are seated on the last flight to NYC. That could make a slight difference.

I know that upgrades can happen, but so do R&B and F&M, and none of them asked for this. Strange.

I think this might be the roadblock of the episode, because EW magazine has a small photo of a shirtless Brennan running in the snow.

By the way, EW gave the finale and the series an "A" and says that it is a nail-biter of a finish.
