PLEASE NOTE: The Reality TV World Message Boards are filled with desperate attention-seekers pretending to be one big happy PG/PG13-rated family. Don't be fooled. Trying to get everyone to agree with you is like herding cats, but intolerance for other viewpoints is NOT welcome and respect for other posters IS required at all times. Jump in and play, and you'll soon find out how easy it is to fit in, but save your drama for your mama. All members are encouraged to read the complete guidelines. "Please Explain What Numbers Mean in Forum Information Column"
In the Forum Information Column, in the page that lists all the forums available, I have been watching the numbers posted beside the OT forum, where it lists # of messages in OT as 9969 (as of time of this post.) It also lists the # of topics as 300, which seems to be the maximum number of topics allowed in any of the forum.

Does this mean that OT is approaching the 10,000 messages posted benchmark? Or that within the 300 topics there will be a total of 10,000 messages. I think it is the former, because nothing else seems to make sense to me. Is this correct? Can you explain in simple terms how these numbers work?

If I am correct, and OT is about to hit 10,000--I would like to know what that post was (& who made it). Also if the person who posts #10,000 wins a new car or something, I would like to know that so I can over to OT and start posting up a storm!

Thank you.

Swami

The numbers are only for the number of active topics in the forum.

There is a limit of 300 active threads at any time in a single forum... If 300 threads are already active within a single forum, when a new one is added, the oldest remaining thread is automatically moved to the archives.

The numbers (both posts and threads) are therefore only for the 300 (or less) most recent threads and do not include any of the posts in the archives...

The OT forum hit 10,000 posts a LONG time ago, and the person with that post did not win a car... although if someone would like to donate a car, we can arrange to have it awarded to someone as a prize... I'm thinking... the first moderator to answer this question .

You never know what might be up my sleeeve...

Okay, thanks, Sleeve.

I thought OT should have reached 10,000 by now. Wasn't there one single thresd that had 1034 posts or something? What got me confused is that while the active topics have remained at 300 since I first started reading OT some months ago, the number of posts has been growing steadily, from around the low 8,000s to the current almost 10,000. This must mean the number of posts per thread has increased by a good percentage as the number of posters has grown.

Do the mods keep track of these milestones? When was the 10,000th post? How many posts, active & archived are there, either in OT or any other way you guys keep track of them?

Yeah I guess posting quantity has gone way up (it fell again - down in the 8000s now)

<<How many posts, active & archived are there, either in OT or any other way you guys keep track of them?>>

I'm not sure (all I have to do is click but you can check it ;) but I think the active pages are 1-10....since there's like 40 something archive thresds on OT (actually I think I'm thinking of Fanatics - there's probably more on OT). Anyway, multiply the archived pages by 20 (# allowed per page) and there you have that. Oh and I just realized you were asking about actual posts. I have no idea - would you like to volunteer to count them for us >

Ooh ooh I figured out how to count them - Just tally up all regular posters' counts (you'd have to include the few retired accts or people who've left us as well) Of course, since the BB/M2/TAR boards seem to have their own new people following you'd have to go and see if anyone there has a good amount of posts (3 posts don't need to be counted ;) - of course nobody is going to do this but it's an idea. Okay I'm done now.

If you look at the topic listing page for Off-Topic there are (at any given time) 300 active topic threads and RIGHT NOW there are 1819 topics in the Off-Topic archive.

The post number of the home page only tracks the number of posts within the 300 active topics. I have no idea on the number of total posts within the 1819 archived topics, I don't keep track of such things, neither at the indidividual forum level or forum-wide.

But overall, I'd guess there are at least 100,000+ postings floating around here -- remember, the Survivor forums alone have another 5500 topics (including archives) of their own, with TAR also having 800+ topics and The Mole another 500+. All told we're probably somewhere around 10,000 topics.
