"The Mole: Season #5: PTTE Game" |
If you're coming here from the prologue, you've just finished twelve brief encounters with a dozen strangers. A few first impressions have been formed, and maybe there's even a doubt or two circulating as to just who these people are -- at least, versus who they say they are. Time to see just how accurate your initial instincts can be. PTTE stands for Picks To The End, and your job is to predict the order the cast will be executed in, find the Mole, and identify the ultimate winner. The object of the game is to avoid points. You do this by having your chosen order go out in the actual order. For example, if you pick Jacob for sixth place and he actually goes out in sixth, that's a perfect prediction: you don't get any points. But if you picked Christopher for third and he's out in eighth, you get one point for each place you were wrong by: in this case, five. The lowest total at the end of the game wins. The show settles things at Final Three, and the Mole advances in every round. That means that in your top three, you are picking the winner (your first place slot), the loser (third), and the Mole (second). Be sure to clearly identify your choice of Mole on your initial list. Here's a sample list, using a few non-playing personages for the cast. 12th. Tony 11th. Mary-Jane 10th. Gary 9th. Michelle 8th. Frank 7th. Gardener 6th. Elmore 5th. Robin 4th. Denadi 3rd. Trina 2nd. Phillip (MOLE) 1st. Angela Well, you'd have to figure no one would see that coming... You may freely change your list as many times as you like before the first episode starts. After the season's officially under way, you can still change your list -- but you incur a penalty by doing so: four automatic points. And if you change your Mole, that's an extra three points on top of the initial four. Now: for every episode you keep your Mole from Episode #2 on, you get a point deducted from your score. (Yes, the lucky and insightful can go negative.) So there is an advantage to letting your chosen traitor hang around the #2 slot for a while. But there's a risk, too: the instant your Mole goes out, you take an instant five-point penalty, added to whatever other points you might have accumulated for the placement difference -- and then you have to pick a new one. Should this new Mole hang around for more than one episode, you start losing points again. (The deduction hits once your new Mole clears hir second episode in the #2 slot without going anywhere.) But as soon as that one gets executed... You can join the game at any time, but you take a four-point penalty for each episode after the first. Cumulative. Everyone clear on how this works? (If not, hold all questions for the replies.) For your review and name placement, once again, the cast of Season #5. LAST EDITED ON 10-27-07 AT 12:48 PM (EST)I'm having trouble deciding, because I'm trying to think about how Estee wrote her Survivor fanfic. Y'know, thinking about how she characterized the earlier exits versus the later ones. And I see a couple parallels to past Mole contestants, most notably Mihoshi and Dorothy (winner of Mole 2). So that's messing with me too. I don't want to trick myself into subconsciously thinking Mihoshi will win, because Dorothy won. 12. Mark 11. Sadr 10. Felicia 9. Christopher 8. Jacob 7. Mihoshi 6. David 5. Verni 4. Charity 3. Patricia 2. George (Mole) 1. Erin I might change this, before Episode One. I'm not completely content with picking George as my mole.

There's a way to figure this out? Like analyzing Estee? The only thing I got was that the female characters, each as I read them, seemed so real that I thought, surely she is just describing herself, or a part of herself. Then I would read the next, and the thought would repeat. If I thought Estee was a guy, I probably would have thought the same about the male characters. I watched all of the Mole seasons, but I don't remember what makes a person last in this game, so I just planned it like I might for an ersatz Survivor season. Old guys first, guys likely to be out of the loop next, followed by Lex's gut, etc. Dazzling characterization, E.

I'm probably way off on this one, as usual. (Then again, Estee's pick to win it all on my last season ended up F3, so maybe I'll make something happen.) Let's see here.12. Denadi 11. Desmond 10. Gary 9. Phillip 8. Angela 7. Mary-Jane 6. Tony 5. Robin 4. Trooper 3. Connie (MOLE) 2. Alex 1. Gardener. Wait, wrong season? Damn. Sorry. Time to fast-forward. 12. Maria 11. Jonathan 10. Cirie 9. Harriet 8. Terry 7. Twila 6. Tom 5. Yau-Man 4. Paula 3. Danni (MOLE) 2. Charile 1. Ozzy STILL wrong season? Damn again. I could have sworn Danni was the Mole. Anywho, trying again. 12. George 11. Felicia 10. Sadr 9. Charity 8. David 7. Erin 6. Patricia 5. Mark 4. Jacob 3. Verni (MOLE) 2. Mihoshi 1. Christopher All right. That's better.

12. "After the first execution:" |
With George taking the full brunt of the first red flare, our detectives are looking at scores of:Ohmyheck: 0. Colonel Zoidberg: 0 (That's right: two peoplenailed it. I feel so obvious.) VisionQuest: 1 Kingfish: 4 RasslinMomma: 6 Geg: 6 Jims: 15 Jims lost his Mole and must pick a new one. There's no additional penalty for the forced choice -- but he can't otherwise reorder his list: all he can do is shift someone into the Mole's slot. Changing the list over and above that will incur four points. Everyone except Jims is looking at potentially losing one point if their chosen Mole survives the second execution. Decide whether you want to keep your list intact, try to see if there's any clues lurking about, and move on to the next assignment... And Jims? This isn't any kind of Casino revenge. It just feels like it. (Don't ask on which end.)

13. "RE: After the first execution:" |
LAST EDITED ON 02-24-08 AT 04:08 PM (EST)When I read the conclusion last night, I realized how unlucky I was. The more and more I read the episode, the less convinced I was that George wasn't the Mole... Considering he didn't really do anything in either of the challenges. When it came down to the last three people, I knew it was going to be George. Ah well. I guess I'm just unlucky. Now that I've seen one episode, I feel like I can make a more informed choice now. So, since I have to re-pick my Mole, does this mean I just move the person from their original spot to the Mole spot on my list? Like moving Felicia (or someone) to Spot #2 and moving every back one spot? Or does that count as a complete change? EDIT: I re-read your post and confirmed that I just swap somebody in. I'm going to re-read some of the challenges to try to make a more informed choice. Except for George being eliminated, I still like the rest of my list. I have some strong personalities at the bottom of the list who (hopefully) will stick around for awhile to keep the drama going.

I nailed the host AND the first boot. I'm on FAAAAAAAAAAIYAAAAAAAAHHH!!!! {cue electric guitar solo}{Now cue everyone else throwing rotten tomatoes at Zoidberg} {Now cue Zoidberg eating them off the ground} Everyone except Jims is looking at potentially losing one point if their chosen Mole survives the second execution. I'm confused. But then again, I'm a lobster, and I'm easily confused. Am I missing something?

For each episode after the first where your choice for the Mole doesn't go out, you deduct one point from your score. If you have (or decide) to change your mole, the bonus kicks in after the new Mole survives hir second execution.

17. "Mole update" |
I have a problem. Verni is at the top of my suspect list, and I think she's going to stick around for awhile. It's just the vibe I get from the writing of her character. The problem is that I'm in last place and she's already a popular Mole pick, which would limit my chances of catching up.So I'll choose someone else. Who will I doom this time? 12. George 11. Mark 10. Sadr 9. Felicia 8. Christopher 7. Jacob 6. Mihoshi 5. Verni 4. Charity 3. Patricia 2. David (Mole) 1. Erin
I was this close to choosing Mark as my new Mole, just because I might've underestimated how long he'll stay. I just have trouble seeing how he can be the Mole after (barely) succeeding at the Heist game. Maybe it's supposed to fake us out, but he didn't really mess up the Poirot game either. I'd like to think the Mole at least made an attempt to fail one of the Ep1 challenges. I'm trying to imagine which characters are more likely to be "main characters" of the narrative.
