"It was only a matter of time..."
It was only a matter of time before we had our own anthrax scare of our own out here on the prairies of South Dakota. My hometown is home to a Citibank service center (3,000+ employees) and they have been evacuated from their building this morning. The Hazordous Materials truck is on the scene and they aren't telling anyone what is going on. Employees are calling the radio stations wondering if they can tell them what's going on. I just thank God that my friends who used to work there don't work there anymore. Hopefully it is only a scare--because if the terrorists are targeting South Dakota, then their heads are REALLY not screwed on straight.

I'm glad you could see the humor in this, Tink. Yes, it's obvious now, first we take over the Dakotas, and maybe Montana, then we'll be all set to take over Canada! (just joking, Canadian chums, but I do hope y'all are taking extra precautions as well.)
We've had three anthrax scares where I work, two of the either accident or hoax on someone's part variety, one of the suspicious letter but may turn out to be a false alarm type. Fortunately, we're accustomed to dealing with biohazardous material (and being on the alert for the potential hazards) though one department had to be shut down for awhile.
I've read some things where people are comparing this anthrax-mailer to the unabomber and are concerned it may take forever to catch this guy. I don't agree with that. Wackjob that he happened to be, the unabomber had a high i.q., operated entirely on his own even down to constructing rather than purchasing the components for his devices, and he didn't come out very often. This anthrax stuff by its very nature requires a certain level of sophistication, particularly as it must be handled with extreme care by whoever is perpetrating it, whoever is behind it has been extremely active in a short period of time, and there must be a lab somewhere even if they are only storing it, so they are a lot more exposed than the unabomber ever allowed himself to become.
Anyway, despite having caused three more deaths and disrupted some businesses and government, mainly these anthrax-mailers seem to only be bringing it home to us all that we're all in this together. Hang tough, Tink. Glad your friends weren't exposed to any danger.

Aw, don't worry about it, Tink. We are averaging 87 scare/hoaxes a day just in Los Angeles County alone. Someone probably accidentally spelled their powdered creamer or artificial sweetner when they were making out their bill to the bank.
But I must admit, I get very frightened when I hear a train too. That Amtrak is a very scary thing.
