: Next time on Survivor...at Savaii, the new mastermind is...

Cochran (shaking hands with Jim): Alright, it's a done deal.

Probst: ...Cochran.

Cochran (camera confessional): This is the perfect opportunity to devastate Ozzy.

Jim (talking to Cochran, making boxing movements): It's a Survivor move.

Cochran: Yeah, yeah, I know.

Probst: And Brandon's paranoia hits new heights.

Brandon (talking to Coach): We've got a problem on our hands. Albert, Mikayla and Sophie have something going on.

Sophie (camera confessional): Brandon is just a small Russell Hantz.

Sorry Tribe, didn't know you were going to post! I notice that they all have their bathing suits. I was suspecting that the lifting challenge will be the combined RC/IC. Would they just randomly get their suits in episode 4, or is it going to be some kind of a challenge that involves water?

Also, last week Ozzy and Brandon were the misdirection. While Ozzy is not playing any differently than in years past, I still get the impression that Ozzy and Brandon are still the misdirection.

SHOCKING to me that they have completely done away with presenting the boot in any of the promos...Either we are getting too good for SEG, or they are giving up...each week seems to be more predictable. I wouldn't be surprised if they are going for the "surprise" boot with Stacey this week. Just my 2 cents.

Jeff highlighting Cochran again in the promo transcript....wonder what his mastermind plan is?

Last week when Jim stated emphatically that none of the 5 would EVER flip, I thought that indeed they will and you will be the one that they flip on. But, now I think that perhaps he'll be the FIRST one to flip. And, with his vote last night when he said he was voting for Cochran just in case there was an idol, wouldn't it be ironic if he's the one burned by Ozzy's idol? I'd like to see his poker face then!

Misdirection indeed Flower

I can't take credit for this but it was a brilliant pick up by Runaway juror in MESS.

The 'done deal' conversation between Jim and John does not look like it happened in Episode 4's timeframe. Check out the facial hair particularly on Jim - I'd say it's day 2 or 3 at the most.

Then the episode 4 facial hair looks properly furry:

Brilliant bit of editing trickery to build suspense.

Even though it's not in the vidcaps yet, I think the challenge this coming week must be the one where they keep piling on the weights on their shoulders, because I just read Jeff's teaser on EW and he says that someone has a chance to set a Survivor record set by Rupert several years ago. Rupert held the record at 220 lbs (JT might have tied that).

I'm just catching up on this season, but I'm pretty sure I saw the weight lifting challenge in the opening sequence too, so it would make sense for it to be soon.

ala SF. Muchas Gracias.

Transcript:

Announcer: The new Survivor is better than ever. Coach and Ozzy are fierce competitors.
Ozzy (camera confessional): I try to think a few steps ahead.
Announcer: But can they keep their tribe united?
Brandon (talking to Coach): We've got a problem on our hands.
Coach: Stop! This game is going to get so much crazier than this.
Announcer: And loyal?
Jim (talking with Cochran): I hate doing this. Do I make a move against Ozzy?
Cochran: I've been dying to be a part of something like this.
Jim (Jim and Cochran shake hands): Me and you?
Cochran: Done deal.
Announcer: Just wait...
Jim (holding sand bag weights): Ohhhhh!
Announcer: ...til you see what happens.
Mikayla: Hold it, baby!
Coach (camera confessional): This is my game and I can't let anybody mess it up.

Thnaks for posting, Tribe!

Things that I noted:

There is only one shot of Stacey in the entire promo...

...right smack in the middle. Then, we have the conflicted Jim, and the question is, will he remain loyal to his 3+2...

Sure looks as though he will not...

Here, he's supposed to be weighing his chances with each option....

So, here are our boot candidates...

1. Stacey:

2. Mikayla:

3. Edna:

Food for thought.

9. "Will Rupert's Record Fall?"
LAST EDITED ON 10-01-11 AT 09:12 PM (EST)

Jeff teased us this week with this:

" We revisit a classic challenge and at least one Survivor has a chance to break a record set years ago by Rupert “America’s Choice” Boneham."

This week's IC/RC is the weight holding challenge pictured above. We have concluded that Savaii wins, but does someone break Ruperts record in the process?

In order to do so, we would need opposing teams with at least two guys strong enough to push each other to the limit. If either side is weak, the challenge ends before the record can be broken. From the vidcaps and intro stills, that balance exists. Jim appears to be the strongman for Savaii, while Brandon and Albert are his competiton.

If the bags are 10lbs each as someone at Mess has suggested, the pics of Jim and Brandon appear to each be very close to the 220lb record (can someone confirm the record?).

The picture of Dawn hugging Jim after the apparent Savaii win suggests that he is the last man standing and as such would it be safe to assume that he is the most likely record holder, if there is one?

Does anyone recall the rules of this challenge? Would it be possible to break the record and still lose the challenge?

Please help me out...this is worth a point in this week's voting score!

Hiya Krautboy! Have I told you lately how happy I am that you are back in the fold?

Anyway, if the sandbags are 10 pounds each, I think that Jim has already broken Rupert's and JT's 200# record. He's got at least 11 bags already hanging on the left and I'm not quite sure how many on the right...He looks stable to me...

Brandon:

I think has 70-90 pounds on each side ( 7-9 bags/side), and he's looking unstable

Albert:

I think he has a lot of weight here...His pole almost seems to be bending...and he does look like he's really straining...?

LAST EDITED ON 10-01-11 AT 11:41 PM (EST)

From Episode 6 of Pearl Islands:
Immunity Challenge: Tribe members would be forced to hold a pole on their shoulders behind their neck. Periodically, weight would be added to the poles. The castaways would decide which poles the weight would added on for the opposing tribe. Last tribe standing wins immunity.
At the Immunity Challenge, Morgan chose to add all of the weight to Rupert's pole, while Drake decided to spread the weight evenly among the Morgan tribe. Morgan's strategy worked, as Rupert could not hold the weight. In the end, Christa couldn't compete against that last two Morgan men left, giving Morgan yet another immunity win.

Here is a promo shot of Rupert with his weights.

(and Christa for comparison)

So, yes, it's still possible to break the record and not win immunity as originally Rupert set the record and didn't win the challenge.

Oh and from Tocantins wiki...
Brendan dropped out first when he was about to carry 220 pounds (100 kg). Tyson dropped out next at 140 pounds (64 kg), leaving just Debbie for Timbira. J.T. carried 220 pounds (100 kg) before dropping out next, tying the weight carried by Rupert Boneham in Survivor: Pearl Islands. Moments later, Joe dropped out at 140 pounds (64 kg), leaving the two women to continue the challenge. Just as both women were to move to carrying 120 pounds (54 kg), Debbie dropped her pole, giving Jalapao their fourth straight challenge victory.

Now this is interesting...
Reward Challenge: Each tribe would select one member to hold a pole on their shoulders, and one “loader” who placed the buckets on the pole. The remaining tribe members would traverse a long balance beam with a pole on their shoulder with one bucket on either side, and hang it on the opposing tribe’s pole.
Ogakor selected Colby and Kucha selected Michael to bear the weight for the reward challenge. After running out of buckets, it became a test of endurance; both were holding more than 400 pounds of water. The pole broke over Michael before anyone quit, so a runoff occurred. There was a 5 minute timed race to see who could put the most buckets on the opposing team. The lead went back and forth; at the last second, Ogakor got two more buckets on Michael’s pole.

Jeff Probst: Alright, we have our weight bearers. For Savaii, Keith, Dawn and Jim. For Upolu we have Brandon, Stacey and Albert.
Jeff (talking to weight loaders): You will assign weight to one person of the opposing tribe. Savaii, who are you going to put the weight on first?
Ozzy: We'll go with Albert first.
Jeff: Upolu?
Mikayla: Keith.
Jeff: Okay, load the weight. Each bag weighs ten pounds. So every round you are putting 20 pounds on somebody. Alright, here we go, three, two, one. Drop the weight. That is how it goes. Here we go, next round. Upolu, where are you putting weight?
Edna: Jim.
Jeff: Jim's gettin' weight.
Ozzy: Brandon.
Jeff: And Brandon is getting weight.
Jim: I just spent 11 days dropping 20 pounds.
Jeff: Alright, here we go, three, two, one. Release the weight.
Jeff: Savaii, who are you going to put weight on?
Ozzy: Stacey.
Jeff: Upolu?
Mikayla: Dawn.

Hard to count 'em all but it seems like 160 to me. Unbalanced on his left side, this may be the key to Savaii wieghdown strategy, uneven distribution making it harder to maintain a center of balance.

22. "Strategy"
You know, it's interesting, I think in the previous seasons when this challenge went, other tribe members placed bags on the opposite tribes poles. Placing bags evenly on all of the players poles lasted longer than placing bags on one persons pole until they were out. So, that's why the Morgan's ended up winning the challenge, because the Drake's placed dispersed the weight to all of the pole holders, whereas the Morgan's loaded them up, one at a time.

This season, we have the same tribe adding weight to their own players poles. Therefore we see that they are distributing the weight between all of the pole holders, just as the Morgan's did.

It's the same as before; the only difference this time is that the weightbearers' tribemates load the weight on at the instructions of the opposing tribe, instead of the opposing tribe members doing the loading themselves. KOBrienfan posted a preview in the SOTS.

It isn't a pointless change if you think about it. A smart tribe will not only balance all of the weight as they add it, but they will place it as close to the stoppers as possible. It is easier to hold weight over your center mass than it is to hold it out away from you.

A smart tribe will also hold onto the weight as they place it for as long as they can before Jeff tells them to let go, even a few extra seconds can help if the other tribe puts the bags on earlier than they need to.

I'm not sure who came first hosting games, you or Tribe, but you are both nefarious! - CTGirl

they are distributing the weight between all of the pole holders, just as the Morgan's did.

You mean as the Drakes did, enabling the Morgans to win.

Since this is a last-man-standing challenge, you have to disperse weight somewhat equally at the beginning, to ensure that all three get enough. Eventually you can try to force a specific player out by piling on more than they can handle.

In Tocantins, they piled on Brendan and he gave out just as the 220 pounds was added but before the loaders had released. That's why he didn't tie the record.

After the initial rounds the challenge fast forwarded so the strategy wasn't all shown, but when the FF stopped Brendan was at 180 and Tyson 120. JT had 160, Joe 140. Taj and Deb both at 80.

After Brendan dropped, Timbira went hard on JT, went up to 220, but Tyson dropped at 140, leaving only Debbie for Timbira.

Then JT and Joe both dropped, leaving the two women at 80 pounds, then 100. Debbie lost it at 100 pounds just as the 120 was about to go on.

So, what is this RI challenge, have we seen it before? Colored-sack tossing? Papa Bear has white sacks, Christine has black ones, and from what we can see Christine has landed more than Papa Bear atop the pillars at this juncture.

A white sack and a black sack on each of the front left and right pillars; a black sack on the first middle lane pillar.

Papa Bear throws again a few minutes later.

Now Papa Bear has landed a white sack on the first middle lane pillar, while Christine has already landed a black sack atop the second middle lane pillar and is tossing again.

Christine seems to be a consistent (at least) 1 bag ahead of PoppaBear for this challenge. Not hard to believe she takes it all the way to the end... and stays on RI.

This photo really says it all, Coach consoling Albert post challenge...

We can see the reward is a cage of chickens, as was previously noted at Mess Hall...
