CBS' Early Show Is FirstBy Jim Benson -- Broadcasting & Cable, 8/9/2005 1:37:00 PM CBS News' perennially third-ranked morning program The Early Show, which has done all that it can to take advantage of the Survivor juggernaut over the years, will once again be the first to announce the cast for the 11th edition of the network’s popular reality series, which debuts Sept. 15. The Early Show will name those conspiring to win Survivor Guatemala:The Maya Empire, on Thursday’s show. A CBS rep says the morning program has announced the Survivor cast for at least the past few editions. Source:http://www.broadcastingcable.com/article/CA633481.html?display=Breaking+News

I have a feeling Brianna is going to drive me insane...was going through the profiles and her favorite actress is "Brittney Spears, Carmen Electra, or any hot chick" *shudder*Several others looked pretty cool, I also think I may like Amy. And I see CBS again cast a firefighter. I wish they would stop that. For some reason the more firefighters they cast on reality tv the less safe I feel. I think I'd prefer my fantasy about what they are like to the reality I see on these shows, thank you very much. A Syren Creation

What person, in their right mind, going on Survivor, would wear an off the shoulder, long-sleeved T shirt like Brianna? I can just see her tugging it up all the time. I haven't seen the Early Show yet, just the screen caps on Phoenix, but it looks like she's being very very careful of her nails. And the old guy, Jim, looks like he's glowering in all the photos of him. And shades of JFP another person with a stocking cap, though it's good to see some of the people brought sensible headgear.

That liking has absolutely nothing to do with the O'Hara name does it? Personally I like Margaret Bobonich as she is an Ohio resident like I am and people from that particular part of the country seem to do better than most on Survivor. >Hmmm ... there are only 16. > This must mean that >Bobby Jon and Stephanie will >play a different role in >this game ... Today's CBS announcement is very carefully worded -- where they would normally state something like "CBS UNVEILS THE IDENTITIES OF THE 20 NEW CASTAWAYS" today's press release instead only states "CBS ANNOUNCES 16 NEW CASTAWAYS FOR "SURVIVOR: GUATEMALA" Note the absense for "the" or any term that implies this is a full cast announcement. Combine that with the fact that the network previously announced that Guatemala would feature 18 castaways and I think its clear that this is a partial cast announcement, with the identities of the last two castaways being held back for another news day.

I totally agree, Webbie! I think that Steph and BJ may emerge on the first ep somehow. It seems obvious that they will end up on opposing teams. Won't the general public be really surprised! They could be waiting for their respective tribes at the designated camp area or they could be won in the first combined challenge. Winner gets first pick of BJ or Steph and the loser gets the other along with a visit to TC. Perhaps they will be granted one free immunity a la the ghosts were in Pearl Islands....or perhaps the tribes will be divided by Jiffy upon arrival, and the first major event will be a fire-starting challenge between BJ and Steph and the winner gets to pick the tribe that they want first???? ....so many possibilities, but frankly I am excited to have them both back for another go round!

LAST EDITED ON 08-11-05 AT 11:52 AM (EST)So there will be a twist at the beginning after all. If that is the case, I doubt BJ and Stephenie will be announced at all prior to the premiere. And they'll be excluded from the opening credits of Ep 1. ETA -- From the Early Show site: In addition to the grueling overnight hike, the castaways will be faced with two additional surprises in the first episode that will dramatically impact how they play the game.

Yep, that was pretty much my take:http://www.realitytvworld.com/index/articles/story.php?s=3658 ...but I disagree on the idea that its certain that CBS won't announce it prior to the premiere -- at this point they might be thinking that they'd get more people tuning in to see BJ and Stephenie again than they would tuning it to just find out what the latest twist is. And if they think that announcing BJ and Steph's participation a week or so before the premiere will result in more viewers watching, I'm sure they will do it -- after all, last season we knew that two of the 20 castaways would be cut in the opening minutes, it wasn't kept a secret.

Excellent article, Webbie! Yes, I thought at first that BR was probably dead on with them with-holding the introduction of BJ and Steph, but let's face it....the biggest reason that they get a do-over is that they are money in the bank for them. Very popular people that attracted a large following, I think they will be introduced probably about a week before the show...I think you've cracked the case!

I do agress with the fact Steph and BJ will make a return, but I'm thinking that it might be possible for the two tribes to only have one camp this season. There just seems to be to much "They must live together." But I'm just a newbie and thats my 2 cents so far.

Flower, I have an idea how Steph and BJ may be used, how they could last the entire 39 days, with CBS taking advantage of their popularity. Each could be a member of competing tribes, live in camp, eating the same food, taking place in all challenge events but not subject to being voted out at tribal counsel. Steph and BJ would not be eligible for Sole Survivor and the $1 million prize. Instead each would paid a contracted amount for appearing.

I don't usually post (I'm a die-hard lurker for the last 10 seasons), and I'm not sure this is the place to post this, however, shortly after the cast reveal our local paper published this article about Cindy Hall:http://www.news-press.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?Date=20050811&Category=LIFESTYLES&ArtNo=50811008&SectionCat= Cindy Hall, a 31-year-old former zookeeper at the Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens, will be one of the 16 contestants on the CBS hit reality series “Survivor.”
Hall, a Naples resident, will make her first appearance when the show’s new season launches at 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 15. According to the CBS Web site, Hall was born and raised in Maysville, Ky., with her identical twin, Mindy. Cindy Hall spent three years studying at Ohio State University before moving to Florida. “She worked here for nine years,” said Denise Rendina, the Naples Zoo’s director of public relations. “Her former employees wish her luck.” Hall was an animal trainer, primate expedition cruise captain and coffee house manager at the Naples attraction. Hall could not be reached for comment. According to CBS, Hall applied to be on the show four times. She described herself as opinionated, passionate and tenacious. Hall lives with four cats, one dog , an African tortoise and an Indonesian blue-tongued skink, according to the Web site. She lists her favorite musicians as Sting, Elton John, Norah Jones and James Taylor. Her favorite color is green. She also enjoys playing softball, volleyball, the video game Galaga and games Trivial Pursuit, Sorry and Uno. Hall’s favorite TV shows are “Survivor,” “CSI,” “The Amazing Race,” “Seinfeld” and “The Simple Life.” Her favorite movies include “City of Angels,” Seabiscuit” “Powder,” “A.I.,” “Nell” and “Phenomenon.” What caught my attention was the fact that she has an identical twin....didn't Big Brother do this? Wasn't there early talk (speculation/rumors)of Survivor doing something with twins?
I live in the Fort Myers/Naples area and will keep my eyes and ears open.

Taking the original 16, add in a pair of twins, then Steph and Bobby Jon, you have the cast of 20. Hmmm...does anyone think it's possible??? (OOOPS, looks like someone else does think the twin thing might be a player - the above poster and I were thinking the same thing.)

26. "Reshuffling the tribes-A Second surprise?" |
Wow, I haven't been to the Survivor boards since the season ended. Now I learn that there's a possibility that Stephenie and BJ may be returning and that there are multiple twin sets. But the promo says two surprises that dramatically impact how the game is played. I'm not sure that having BJ and Steph, while definitely a surprise, would impact an individual player's strategy. As some posters pointed out, they may have immunity at the beginning;they're hard workers, therefore assets to their tribe; they haven't won the big bucks, so they wouldn't have the same target on them that the winners had in All-Stars. If they're given some special positions where they have more authority, etc. that could make a difference. But unless MB is counting Steph and BJ separately, there's still one more surprise. Using the twins in various ways is a possibility. But how about the idea of them all living in the same place because the tribes are reshuffled after each tribal council. I know that this would be completely counter to the way the game has been played and how alliances are formed. But it's time for some changes in the show and if the tribes are constantly changing, then all current strategy would be thrown out the window. It would be a lot harder to fly under the radar or be carried on someone's coattails if you couldn't depend on that person being with you. Some people might form alliances and play offensively. Others, playing defensively, might try to break up the alliance. In any event, what do you think (if you believe that Steph and BJ are coming back) the second surprise is?

I'm not sure that having BJ and Steph, while definitely a surprise, would impact an individual player's strategy.Maybe BJ and Steph each get to choose the members of their respective tribes, or start a chain pick'em like in Palau. It could have an impact on potential alliances. I'm curious about how the Bobby Jon/Stephenie thing was handled. Did they each think they were the only one coming back? When did they find out the other one was there? If they had the opportunity, they could have formed an endgame alliance ahead of time. Bridge for sale to highest bidder. Call 1-800-BRroach.

28. "RE: Cast Reveal Thursday!!!" |
Margaret is from my neck of the woods (Chardon, OH is east of Cleveland). I see here as being another Twila or another Caryn.from the Cleveland Plain Dealer http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/entertainment/112357993027760.xml&coll=2 Here we go again. Another local yokel in the reality TV world. A number of Web sites for geeks who follow such things have outted Margaret Bobonich of Munson Township as a cast member of "Survivor: Guatemala," which recently wrapped shooting. Now technically, no one can say for sure that she's in. CBS is waiting to "announce" the cast on "The Early Show" on Thursday. And when I talked to her Monday, she sort of snickered and pretended not to know what "Survivor" is. I resorted to my Jedi journalist mind tricks and asked her if it was fun. She just giggled and coyly said she didn't know what on earth I was talking about. She even said she couldn't tell me what she does for a living, which I think your average person would've figured out by the age of 43. But Bobonich did say I could call back Thursday. Which either means she likes my telephone voice or she really is on the show. Look, I'll tell you up front that I have zero intel on this. But I'm betting right here and now that not only was she hangin' in Guatemala, I wouldn't be surprised if she won.
