That could mean that Twila kept her "promise" to try to do some girlie things and this is just a day after TC. It looks like each tribe has a caller. I think that's Leann for Yasur. You can see Lea, Chad, Travis, Brady, John K, and Chris in these two shots, so Rory is calling for Lopevi. Is this Rory at the volcano???   Top

Each team has their own grid, which appear to be at least 4x4. There are squares in four different colors(yellow, red, blue, green) which have a different image on the back for each colour. I originally thought this might be one of those strategy like challenges we usually see later in the season, where the object of the game is to be the first/last person to be able to lay a tile down(or something like that), but that doesn't really seem to make sense. I'm now wondering if it's some sort of memory/matching game. In the shots of the men's grid, however, they appear to be laying down the tiles diagonally by color. There is braided/partially braided hair at the challenge, but not in the other clips of the women. Perhaps those are at the camp the morning after TC?   Top

Yes, I was also thinking that this might be a version of "Concentration" where you have to remember the location of the matches in order to be able to flip them. But why the different colors? And why aren't all the grids filled at the start of the game? Is the caller the person who has to remember the location of the matches? Krautboy   Top

It does seem that they must take "turns" within their own group. It doesn't look like anyone is in a hurry (which is strange considering they are competing against one another) and Chris is sitting down at one point. Maybe the caller is the only person allowed to talk. Rory says "Brady, pick up the orange piece and switch it with the red one" or something like that.   Top

The brown tile in front of Sarge has a Palm Tree image and the red tile behind Bubba appears to have the same Palm Tree image on it. Of the vidcaps we've seen that's the closest. Here are a few others that show land in the background across a body of water... These are from the women's camp and the challenge beach... the one you found from the Yopevi camp looks most like the place where the visitor arrives. Looking at the vidcaps a little closer it also appears that there is a rocky shoreline with green vegetation behind Eliza. Here we see the visitor perhaps capturing the fire of the volcano... and then delivering it to the beach side camp of the winning tribe...(notice the light of the fire reflecting off the ocean in the background.) The editing of the show will undoubtably feature the mystical power of the visitor and how his visit is responsible for the good that comes to the winners and the misfortune of the losers during the 24 hours of his visit... A latin square is any square array (2X2, 3X3, etc) where no row or column contains similar elements. Probably the Survivors have to find a way to arrange the squares so that color is not repeated (Thus the blue, orange, green, red first column) or the pattern repeated (I can't make out the first column, but let's say volcano, ocean, palm tree, something else). The key is to put in a diagonal and stick with it!   Top

"RE: Latin Square" If I was designing the puzzle, I would also stipulate the the two main diagonals cannot have the same picture or color repeated. This makes it a LOT harder, but it is possible. I just wrote down an example, using your colors and objects to prove it to myself: Palm,Blue Vol,Red Ocean,Orange Whatever,Green Whatever,Orange Ocean,Green Vol,Blue Palm,Red Vol,Green Palm,Orange Whatever,Red Ocean,Blue Ocean,Red Whatever,Blue Palm,Green Vol,Orange Otherwise, it is pretty easy, because like you said, you just put all of the Palm trees in the main diagonal, put all of the Oceans in the cross diagonal, and then you only have eight squares to place carefully. Anyway, usually the puzzle challenges aren't as difficult as I would make them! So I'm probably wrong, lol   Top

I don't know where to put this but had a thought: Episode 3 was day 7 in Survivor time. Correct? Do we know for sure that the earthquake happened on Day 10 of Survivor time? I know I have read that some where but when I go to search for it...I can't find it! We know that episode 5 is titled "Earthquakes and Shakeups". If these things are correct...episode 4 would contain day 8 & 9 or day 8 only. Does that make sense? The usual Survivor calendar (for 39 days) meant that there was a person being voted off every third day. The addition of 2 new castaways this time seemed to have affected that time line; however, since the 2 extras were booted on day 7, MB can now go back to the original time line if he wants to. That is, on day 9 one person will be voted off leaving 13 castaways which is exactly how many castaways were remaining in every other edition of Survivor except All-Stars. ©IceCat: the name says it all.   Top

Last week's show was day 7 (not the usual 3days). Somewhere I read that the earthquake occured on day 10 Survivor time. So, with the title of episode five being earthquakes and shake-ups, then day 10 would occur in episode 5 not this week's show. So, episode 4 would include days 8 and 9 of survivor time or it could include just day 8. I am trying to fit the calendar in with the titles of the next two episodes. The girls look just as concerned as the men...they appear to be watching and waiting for something. Is Jeff explaining the challenge? Is there a reward for the winners and a punishment for the losers? Trouble erupts at the men's camp? Do they lose the IC? Sarge is unhappy about something...losing perhaps? Chad talking about the strategy at Lopevi? This is apparently Rory, (as caller during the puzzle challenge), after he made a mistake or perhaps realized they just lost? Rory deep in thought, considering the boot options for TC or replaying his mistakes at the reward puzzle challenge? Sarge also looking a bit unhappy. Dressed as he was at the RC, this could be after they lose reward or as the men jocky for position leasding up to TC? The wowmen also erupt after Lisa betrays her allaince at TC? The curious thing about these vidcaps is that there are no new shots of the women in conflict. These are the same shots of them arguing after they return from TC. This may be an indication that the Yasur tribe will not have anything to argue about after the immunity challenge, if the aren't the ones going to TC... Krautboy   Top

Being that the women are voting off the "disharmony" so to speak, the minority people would do well to avoid verbal confrontations and conflicts. I agree that it looks like they are still only fighting on the night after TC, so perhaps they reign it in. Men strategizing doesn't look good for them. Also the sad faces. I think with so many shots of the men looking perturbed at the challenge and around camp that Lopevi is more likely to go to TC. I also note that Brady has excellent OFG theory shots in both the Thursday night preview and the web preview, while Travis has them only in the Thursday preview and Rory only in the web preview. Once again, JK is pretty much MIA and I don't think he's going anywhere this week. Right now I'm leaning toward Brady as the boot. Jeff Probst said that Brady would be put in a position to make or break a situation that has a direct result on how he does in the game. Was he talking about Brady getting the stone in Ep 1, thus marking himself as a threat from the start? "RE: Immunity Idol" First according to the Vanuatu Daily Press and ABT's calendar, the earthquake happened on S9's Day 11 the same day that the Reward was a feast at the Waterfall. Maybe this sheds some light, or just goes to confuse us more. In the SeeBS misdirection we have the statement: "Tribe that wins reward is surprised by a prize that sends a visitor to their camp for 24 hours." In the latest vidcaps we have statement: "The arrival of a mysterious stranger will effect the TRIBES in WAYS THEY could never imagine." Note the use of the plural TRIBES. So does this mean that both tribes will be effected by the visit to one tribe? And how could the visitor shake things up in a manner they could never imagine? So it seems that we may only have a REWARD CHALLENGE and could the stranger bring the power of the volcano to the winning tribe so that they gain immunity also? That indeed would be one hellva reward!! There is one misleading shot in the videocaps. After we seem to see mostly shots of the men doing the puzzle there is a shot of the men standing around looking dejected (caps 10 and 11). Are we being led to believe that the men lose the reward challenge? But look again, John K has a different headband on, so this is scene from some other time or place, and not right after the puzzle task. And we have a shot of the "stranger" paddling up to the camp which looks like it could be that of the men and not the women. And since they say the team winning the reward will have a visit from the stranger does this mean the men win the reward? which also includes Immunity? So then who is in line to be booted next? Many think that JohnK is most vulnerable, but if men win Immunity which woman goes? Lisa? And it does not look like we will be getting any new vidcaps since CBS has been repeating the two we have seen every chance they get. They are really playing up the stranger and some very strange twist or two or three. Still pondering what could really shake both tribes up in a mannner they could never imagine? Any ideas, anyone?   Top

(actually several ideas) First, it could be an immunity and reward challenge all roled up into one, but I doubt they would do that again so soon........so my second thought is that this is indeed the immunity challenge (even though no idol is seen). Perhaps the reason we are not seeing pics of the reward is that the "visitor" is somehow involved or revealed through the reward captions. Maybe this is why we are only seeing pics of one challenge this week. What do you guys think of this?!   Top

I'm starting to think the mysterious stranger brings the II to the RC winners' camp. affect the tribes - This would explain how the stranger's visit to one tribe could affect both. If the losing tribe showed up at treemail to discover...no IC, the II was given to the RC winner, that would cause a lot of discussion and apprehension. That might also prove unsettling enough to make a player talk about going home. ways they could never imagine - So far, they've had IC's on consecutive days, had the second IC be individual, and had a double TC. What better way to keep them off balance without a major twist than to throw another surprise like this at them? They wouldn't be expecting it, and they certainly wouldn't imagine finding out well after the fact that, oh yeah, they won immunity as well as reward. It makes sense from an episode title standpoint too. This episode is "Now that's a reward!" I could easily see one of the winners saying that when celebrating the arrival of the II. And next episode refers to shakeups, and I could easily see a player commenting on how shaken up he/she has been by the events of the past few days, even before an earthquake occurs. When you're good to Mama...Mama's good to you.   Top

These shots are probably not after the IC, but rather after the RC. I can't imagine the men would be that down after a RC unless the reward they lost was something big...like immunity? I'll second or third that sentiment!! I agree, that sounds like a very plausible option. At first I was not convinced that the guys lost the RC, the group shot of them looking down was balanced by one of the girls looking the same way. But then I thought about it. If the RC involves a caller, and we know it does, how could Rory win that challenge? Eliza, albeit a blabber mouth, is quick tongued and I suppose one sharp girl. IMO there is no way that the girls are gonna lose this challenge. I think Bebo has nailed it and the Yasur tribe wins Immunity to boot.....now that's a reward!   Top

If she is starting law school now, she just took the LSAT and a third of that test is analytical questions. Usually most LSAT candidates take a class and a lot of practice tests, this is something that Eliza would have seen and be very familiar with--definitely she will win.
