"Survivor 9 Contestant - Twila Tanner"

Twila Tanner was born in Osceola, Iowa, where she lived for 11 years. She eventually moved to Missouri, where she attended Marshall High School. She currently works full time for the Missouri Department of Transportation doing highway repair. She also works part-time as a custodian for Marshall Public Schools and on the weekends for Brown Construction of Gilliam, Mississippi, running heavy equipment.

Tanner describes herself as hardworking, problem-solving and a good friend who enjoys riding motorcycles, horseback riding and mushroom hunting when she can find the time. She says her greatest accomplishment was being a single mom and raising her son, James, 23, who spent three years in the US Navy working in aviation hydraulics. Her hero is John Wayne, because "he always held his head high and never took crap from anyone," she says. Tanner's main motivation to be on SURVIVOR:VANUATU is for the challenge, while her secondary motivation is the money. She says she could be the Sole Survivor because she is "strong-willed and determined to make a better life" for herself, and possibly give her son "a jump-start in life."

Tanner currently resides in Marshall, Missouri. Her birth date is October 12, 1962.

In her confessional clip on TES, she came across as gruff and crabby, saying how if any of the girls started complaining about breaking a nail or anything like that they'd be out of there.

And as much as I hate to admit it, Amber was right. Contestants that go for the experience end up losing, you gotta focus on the prize!!!

I agree BR with your assessment of Twila (woohoo what a name). As much as I would feel the same way about whiny girls ala Jenna and Heidi, I'd try to hide it as much as I could.

Finally something to discuss!!!!

I'm not inclined to read too much into her clip for the moment, though. I remember in the pre-show clips, Helen in S5 and Sandra in S7 came across as potentially "difficult" contestants, but they both did well. Not to mention Jonny Fairplay.

True brownroach, but helen and sandra knew how to contain it or yell at someone everyone hated (fairplay).

This lady reminds me of debb eaton.

I'm just pointing out that MB sometimes presents pre-show strategy confessionals that are obviously designed to make you think, "Aha! She'll be the first boot!" but it can be a red herring.

She reminds me of Deena Bennett. I think she may fill that same kind of role and then be a mid round boot, but won't get super far.

As a 40+ yr old woman, I think she will have a difficult time getting very far.

Tina - winner (S2)
KimJ - 2nd place (S3)
Lillian - 2nd place (S7)
Kathy - 3rd place (S4)
Jan - 3rd place (S5)
Helen - 4th place (S5)
Teresa - 5th place (S3)

All were 40+ and some of them were a lot older than the 40's. They CAN go far.

I don't know, she strikes me as a bit severe with her personality, and in a group of women, many of which are alphas themselves, I don't see her lasting too long.

I like how she can go between "secret smile/laugh" and serious face mode. She'll last a while.

This one is a tough call. Seems like a strong personality and a strong woman. Depends on how she meshes with Scout and the prom Queen Lisa Kieffer. If Scout and Twila see things similar, I would guess she will be around awhile, but if they see things different you might see a midwestern brawl. I am neutral on her till I see a couple of shows, but I am guessing she is gonna be a
18+ day survivor.

Her face tells me she's had to fight a little in her past. Hard to say if that will work for or against her. If she hooks up early with a couple of other hard workers in the tribe she'll do OK. If she becomes a loner I wouldn't give 2 weeks. She'd better start smiling a little either way.
