Hi all. First post here from a long time lurker. I was just on my way home from my visit with Mom - perfectly timed so I would get back to the city in time for the finale. I had plenty of time after arriving at Penn station so I went outside for a smoke before heading home. I completely forgot that the finale was at MSG and was standing outside noticing a lot of news trucks and stuff and then I looked up and there was a whole group of past survivor losers right in front of me -- Ghandia, Trish, Rhino and the all time loser Osten (although calling him a loser is probably too generous since he didn't even finish). Anyhow, I was thinking that the surprise will probably be that all past survivors will be present at the finale. Lame. Anyhow, enjoy the show

Ah, brilliant timing! I was just wondering where to post this, when along came IceCat's update thread.
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for letting me hang out here and enjoy reading the brainiac-level detective work that gets done every week. I've only been participating in Spoilers since Pearl Islands, but it has made my experience of the show so much more absorbing. I'm already looking forward to our discussions re: Season 9 (mainly to take my mind off the fact that this season is rapidly drawing to a close!) when the show comes around again in Autumn.

Purple rock was the tie-breaker in Marquesas. The three non-immunity winners drew rocks, and Pasqual got the purple one, meaning he was out, without being voted out. It was totally unfair, and why Survivors have seemed to avoid tie-breakers since.

But interestingly enough, the very first final 4 tribal counsel ended up in a tie vote (Sue/Kelly v. Rudy/Rich) and Kelly changed her vote, I think, in fear of the tie-breaker. It seems to me that rule has been in place all along, but just wasn't broadcast until it became an issue. In season one, Jeffy told them they HAD to decide, or there would be consequences. It's a pretty darn drastic rule, and if you are in the position (as Jenna was tonight) to control your fate rather than be subject to the random draw, it's a no brainer to go for it.

The original tie-breaker was previous votes, which would have had Richard ousted F4 had Wiglesworth held her ground instead of changing her vote to Sue in the original series. The change to Purple Rock came in S4 (Marquesas) resulting in Pappy English being the first player ousted without ever having received a vote at TC.

Now I can agree that it sucks that Jenna went with the ROMBER alliance to get to Final 3 from a good vs. evil standpoint, but Jenna really didn't have a choice, especially when Jiffy made the comment about Fate.
Rupert's comment about GREED was off the mark. I don't think it was greed on her part, as much as it was self-preservation. Why let yourself get purple rocked out of the game and lose all hope? Rupert is right--he lets his emotions control. Jenna did the smart thing in that situation and moved herself forward.

Rob DID outplay everyone else, but we must be on a bash Rob board because there aren't many nice things being said about him here.
The fact that the other players were so hostile because he made it to the end,was sickening.Their egos can't allow them to think they weren't as good as Rob.
Lex,Tom,Alicia,and Kathy,need to learn that losing well is just as important as winning.They would have walked away with a little more dignity.I lost respect for those bitter four players who are supposed to be adults and model behavior that is more becoming of adults who are playing a GAME.

It's the Ultimate Tribal Council for SURVIVOR fans as CBS, in partnership with Cingular Wireless, gives viewers the opportunity to cast their vote for and relive some of SURVIVOR's greatest moments. The votes will be revealed on a LIVE telecast Thursday, May 13 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/taped delayed to the West Coast). Jeff Probst will host the event, which will also feature the 18 castaways of SURVIVOR: ALL-STARS, along with highlights from previous seasons.
Eight installments later, SURVIVOR has produced some of the most memorable moments and characters ever seen on television. Sue Hawk's venomous rat/snake speech? Michael Skupin's devastating fall into the fire? Jonny Fairplay's dead grandmother hoax? Viewers can vote for their favorite survivor moment among such choices. Additionally, viewers can vote for their favorite villain, decide the best fight and who they think are the sexiest survivors ever.
Viewers can cast their votes for their top SURVIVOR picks via their wireless phones by text messaging the word VOTE to 26222, or by logging on to www.cbs.com. Text voting is open to Cingular and most other wireless carrier customers. Standard text message rates apply.

While I think that the whole concept is against everything that the game of Survivor is, I think it is a BRILLIANT marketing strategy for MB and company because everyone has a favorite that they feel got cheated.

I'm sorry, Rupert fans, but he was a fun character in Pearl Islands and a miserable player on #####. He got to F4 because he could be trusted not to play a good strategic game while Rob whacked all the true competitors. And because he brought the master fish.
Neither was he entertaining on ##### because they took away the pirate theme.
I would consider voting for Shii Ann and I never thought I would say that. When she did emerge as a player, at least she was fearless and bitchy and stayed on an even keel at the last TC--plus she put Lex in his place.
I would not vote for Alicia, Jenna, Tom, Rupert of the ride-along Chapera=Saboga gang, nor for Lex and Kathy of the let's not boot the Robfaddah's girlfriend so he'll owe us sore loser duo.
Voting for Jerri is unthinkable; Ethan whined; Colby was sulky; Sue and Jenna M quit, Rob C never made a move other than becoming the first one to get fooled by Rob, and Tina was barely there.
I guess it would come down to Hatch, Rudy, or Shii Ann for me, and Hatch has already won. But he did entertain me the most while he was around.

Ethan rode Lex's coattails to that win. Lex was the clear mastermind of the Africa alliance, and Ethan was LUCKY to be a part of it. MamaKim took Ethan to the finals over Lex, because it was her only HOPE of getting a vote. Ethan did nothing strategic in that season except for win challenges for the team and keep his mouth shut. Except for Richard Hatch and Brian (Thailand) we have not seen the strategic mastermind win the game. The only "nice guy" who has won is Sandra. Face it, survivor is not a game where the "good guy" wins, whatever that means. It's a strategic, cut-throat competition. The sore losers on the jury tonight, to me, demonstrated the worst that people have to offer. In what part of any game that you know of do people cut their friends a break? The NBA finals? The world series? Those people know each other too.
Yes, there is an element to the game that involves not alienating the jury. The only person to ever navigate that part of the game as a strategic player and win was Richard Hatch, the first season, before anyone ever understood the notion of being "played." Brian barely won, and his win was due to the fact that Clay was hated more. Since then, the only strategic survivor to get to the final two (i.e. the only strategist who wasn't ex-ed out by his "loving" opponents before the finals (and I'm looking at you, Lex, Kathy, RobC and Johnny Fairplay) because the others were "too afraid" to let the best player get to the end)) was RobM. And faced with a strategic player who had outwitted, outlasted and outplayed them, the jury was so caught up in their own egos and "hurt feelings" that they childishly punished him. I'm sorry, but what's the first rule they teach you in T-Ball? -- winning isn't everything, and be a gracious loser.
Grrr! Can you tell I'm angry? Yes. So in this frickin' silly extra million dollar vote for ratings for CBS, my vote goes for RobM, hands down.

I've already voted for Rupert. And I agree with much of what has been said here pro-ruppie. He was at a strong disadvantage coming in with no friendship alliances in a show that ultimately seemed to revolve around the pre-existance of these relationships. He also had no time to analyse his previous strategy, in comparison to what was being said of him and what was going on behind his back in response to his choices (he probably didn't see S7 until S8 was done being taped). So all he could do was blindly try a new strategy, only to come across this huge pre-relationship aspect after landing on the S8 island. I bet he didn't count on that fully, considering he had not really been exposed to it yet.
How much these factors really played into it, I can't be certain. I would imagine it would be quite significant, but I could be wrong. If these aspects of the game could be considered null and void, then yes....he played a crappy game with what was not much more than a UTR-toady/workerbee strategy.
So maybe he should get the million, maybe not.
But, what's more important: the spoiler community has just been offered an opportunity to reach back towards the game and actually affect its outcome. This would really be a spine in MB's side if he couldn't rid himself of the spoilers, but actually opened the door to let them take some control from him.
What everyone here should do is decide on some real underdog that shouldn't get the money at all and then vote like mad for that person in a unified sort of way. It would be the most effective way to demonstrate to MB the resilience and importance of the spoiler community.
Is anyone here good with quickly making some sort of web-mailer sort of thing that would allow us to all automatically vote repeatedly over and over and over again for a specific person until we overwhelm the voting process?
And, that person should be: Jerri. Not because I like her (and I did suggest this in another thread earlier as a joke, before I thought of this little scheme), but because she truly seems to be the least deserving after the walk-out at the re-union. It would make the most obvious statement to MB.
But, that's just because I am a sh*t-disturber.

Personally, I'm rooting for Rupert or Rudy to win the gift extra million bucks. If it isn't either of them I will be very disappointed. They are both men of their word, they kept true to that during the cutthroat games of Survivor that they played, I'm damned impressed and wish them both the best.
