"Accidental Tourist " |
LAST EDITED ON 09-05-03 AT 10:42 AM (EST)This was first posted by Trixiego on Sucks; she got it off SNN. The article was originally credited to Griffe (a long-time spoiler); it's since been updated. There's lots of details about the events of the game here, including the big "twist" and the F3: ---------------------------------------------- The Accidental Tourist The Man taunted us with promises of an unexpected turn, the twist of all twists. Enough to make our jaws drop. Does he deliver? Exactly whose jaw drops? SNN Wednesday, September 3, 2003 By: The Spykids Updated version Despite navigation restrictions and tight security surrounding the filming of "Survivor Pearl Islands", your Survivor Spy Kids have collected glimpses of events and snippets of conversations very interesting to our little spoiling world. Our jaws are about to drop and listen up, because we’re spilling the news. Go no further if you are afraid of either pirates or of spoiling your viewing pleasure. Who are we kidding? If you didn’t want spoilers, you wouldn’t be here reading the reports of the hard working spy team in Spoilerville, would you? So let's start from the beginning... SURVIVOR TRAINING The lucky castaways can thank the "Grupo De Operaciones Especiales" for the best jungle training Panama has to offer. Local menu includes cucarachas , which although more wiggly should be healthier than dead pelican. THE MARKET
As we reported earlier Survivor filmed at a Saboga market which was faked up by SEG especially for filming. Preview clips show the players being made to jump overboard from a ship into the water with only the clothes on their backs, a pair of sneakers for challenges (that Jeff is too good to them) and a pouch containing 100 balboas so they can buy items at a market for their camps. While CBS wants us to believe that the castaways actually swam all the way to the market, we received reports they were quickly picked up again and brought to Saboga’s shore by boat. Not much swimming took place. In addition to the 100 balboas, entrepreneurial castaways creatively bartered bracelets, necklaces and shoes at the market. No word on the availability of underwear. Merchants were paid for all the items by Survivor whether the castaways bought them or not. THE "PONDEROSA" - A WHOLE NEW LOSER LODGE
In previous articles, we reported that Survivor crew built cabins on a small uncharted island the locals call "isla Perico" to house the booted players. Those early days at Perico were no picnic for booted castaways. Their food intake was limited, soft drinks and alcohol were off limits and they were made to exercise their little hearts out. This is radically different from previous editions when ousted players had a nice loser’s vacation. The bootees may be out, but the game is clearly still on. Reports to date have helped us identify ousted players. The first to arrive at the Ponderosa is most likely Nicole. She was followed by a tall, skinny, younger male believed to be produce guy Ryan Shoulders. The third arrival is also male. Our information on the early non jury boots also includes an older woman. While all booted players were sent to Perico’s cabins, not all of them hung around for the duration of the game. Reports place some Survivor players at the Gamboa Resort. Apparently they were moved there from isla Perico after the twist transpires. Later, the cabins are occupied with jurors. THE TWIST - RESURRECTION? Mark Burnett talked about this major twist (you know...the one that will make your jaws drop) in the Variety article. *Gasp* Our team has pieced together reports and concluded that the prejury boots compete with one another to win the privilege of returning from the dead and reentering the game. Hold on to your pirate britches, mates - we have a pretty good idea who wins this new twisty contest. No, it’s not Big Brother 3's Amy. An older woman wins and returns to the game. This is the reason for the spare rations and harsh conditions at the Ponderosa. Once this contest is decided, the double losers finally get a vacation - and presumably better rations - at the Gamboa resort. Sources tell us this superwoman goes on to win another challenge right after the first one. One of the challenges involves an underwater endurance contest where players have to pick up items. The SurvivorNews spy kids took a vote, and have decided that this is clearly not the surprise of all surprises, since underwater rock carrying is old hat. OTHER CHALLENGES
We reported those earlier in our article. Look for a reward challenge involving an overnight stay at luxurious Hacienda Del Mar. Sources say the winner is male and allowed to take a guest. The Family Visit Challenge is also back for a return engagement. MERGE So far, there are no reports of anything dramatic regarding the merge. A traditional merge takes place and as we reported earlier the merged Tribe's name is Balboa, the color is believed to be black, and they’ll be situated on Mogo Mogo. THE FINALE
Sources have not revealed any dramatic differences in the finale, despite publicity claims to the contrary. Our information to date indicates the Finale is just a traditional one with the Final 2 being decided by the jury of seven. What might be different is that for the first time ever, a pre-merge boot will be in the Final 2. That's right...the older female booted pre-jury who came back from the dead made Final 2. Two women best a male player to become the final two. We have identified the Final 3 players and thought it might be more fun to hide the F3 names in another article using invisible ink. Oh wait, we already did... ------------------------------------------- (***Edited because Bebekid found and posted the link below -- BR.) Yeah, I hope a booted player DOES NOT return to the game. That's just not Survivor. Once your fire is extinguished, that's it. MB can play around with some of the rules to make it interesting, but that is too fundamental to the game.If that IS the twist, MB might as well rename the game. You know, maybe Survivor: But Not Really.

queenscity gave us info on Lillian's thread about her weight loss could the following be about her?"The reports we got is that a challenge takes place involving the prejury boots to see which of them would win the privilege of returning from the dead. An older woman wins. Reports also say that she goes on to win another challenge right after the first one. Presumably it's either an immunity challenge or perhaps a challenge that determines which player leaves the game to take her place in the prejury boots but we aren't sure." Not sure if I like this. It seems to backfire in other Reality shows such as BB and now the horrendous PH. It will make for definite drama. Thanks BR for posting the whole thing.

Well it can only refer to Trish or Lill, and not much has surfaced about Trish regarding weight loss.Assuming all of this is true, I wonder if the pre-jury bootees' challenge would be shown. The "twist" is meant to be a surprise to the audience, as well as the castaways, from the way MB is going on about it. So maybe that challenge takes place off camera the first day of Episode 8, and the returnee shows up in time for the Ep 8 IC. I would think the person returns before jury formation starts, but who knows.

I hope it's shown too, in fact if this really happens I hope all the Survivors are there to see it.Tourist Griffe makes an interesting case for the "Twist".In the past I have enjoyed the changes in the game more than when it was predictable, so I say bring on new and different.

LAST EDITED ON 09-05-03 AT 11:17 AM (EST)Thanks, tree, I updated it up top as well. Re the hidden text: when speculating on possible cast members, Snewser had the names Darrah Johnson, Osten Taylor, and Michelle Tesauro in hidden text in an article at one point (along with Andrew Cripps, who is not on the show). Darrah and Michelle don't fit the older woman/younger woman scenario though, so I doubt that was it. ***Edited to add: now Griffe posted on Sucks that the invisible ink reference is a joke, with a . ***And again to add that Tamarama said when she looked at the same article later, Trish Dunn's name was there: http://community.realitytvworld.com/boards/DCForumID2/3962.shtml#12 Hmmm.

If this is true...then when the players are interviewed after they are booted will need to be watched with more detail. I mena we have used friends list to determine loser lodge guests, but one of them will have LL and jury friends.Wonder what the players that had to stay and do all the challenges will think about an early boot coming back. Will they be treated different, like they did not earn it?

I was thinking about the Early Show segments too. The early boots will have to be very careful not to give out any hints about the twist. And what about the booted woman who re-enters? I suspect they will have her on the Early Show after her initial boot, as if all is routine.I think how the woman is viewed on her return will be a matter of who is still in the game and why she got voted out in the first place. She may get booted simply for being outside a controlling alliance, for example. Then if some of that alliance is gone (or no longer in control) when she comes back, she could be recruited by an opposing clique.

Pure speculation of course... But one of the rumors has Lillian coming home with a broken foot. If she broke it during the game, he may decide to replace her with a booted off Survivor instead of having the entire dynamics of the game changed (i.e. when Mike S got removed due to fire) especially if there are two "even" alliances at the time of injury.Just my $.02 ~ lroy

I think that if Survivor brings back booted players, then the show will "jump the shark." Maybe that is why they are having All-Star version after this. To bring back all the alienated fans.I think bringing back booted players changes the entire show. On a spoiler note, is there an extra show scheduled to air this season or are we getting the normal number? That *might* help prove whether or not a booted contestant comes back. Unless they boot two people at one tribal council.

Sleeeve's episode schedule has 13 eps plus a recap after ep 10, but he says it is tentative. TDT's filming calendar shows 39 days of game time, but I'm not sure that is confirmed either.I can't see MB setting this up so that 2 people get booted at one TC. Though this article seems to suggest that the prior bootees compete in a challenge by themselves, an idea I had was that they might each be paired with an in-game contestant for a reward challenge. The prior bootee from the pair that wins the challenge would be reinstated in the game, while the in-game contestant from the losing pair would get banished to Loser Lodge. I.e. it's a swap. (I thought MB said something about there being a penalty for losing a reward, but I haven't been able to source the quote, so I might be dreaming.) Anyway, it would make sense that the second challenge the older woman wins is an IC; once reinstated, she probably would feel she needs immunity to stay in the game, and we've seen in the past that the person who feels they need immunity the most often gets it. (Not that the challenge would be stacked in her favor, or anything. )

17. "Maybe..." |
Got to thinking. Griffe posted on Sucks that:The bit about the names in invisible ink was a joke ;) Maybe just the "invisible ink" part was a joke. This article (still up on SNN) had the names of three contestants that would fit the F3 description, in plain text: ------------------------ Is Maryland Representing? And you thought we had given up guessing more names for Survivor: Pearl Islands. Well, we're not dunn yet. SNN Monday, August 25, 2003 Name: Trish Dunn Age: Around 42 Hometown: Annapolis, Maryland Occupation: Unknown at this time SNN may have uncovered yet another potential contestant for Survivor Pearl Islands. Not much is known about Trish Dunn for now, but we have reasons to believe that when the cast is announced in a few days, it may well include her. We'll call this one "two-parts credible information, and one-part David Blane type mind reading." Additional chatter intercepted by our Echelon spy network included the names of Michelle Tesauro, Osten Taylor, and Kathy O'Brien. More on that later. Our agents are still working on the translation. ---------------------

Before the cast was announced I remember reading somewhere that somebody found 3 names in invisible ink in another article from SNN or one of the other sites. I can't remember where it was, but I remember it was before the cast was announced and it included names that turned out to be legitimate. I'm not sure, but I vaguely recall it listing Osten, Darrah, and/or Michelle. When they say "We have identified the Final 3 players and thought it might be more fun to hide the F3 names in another article using invisible ink. Oh wait, we already did...", maybe this is what they were referring to. Does anybody remember this? djandy

Trish Dunn's name was also hidden. But actually the hidden names were just that...names only. The mention of hidden names in the Accidental Tourist article was just a joke. The only ones that SNN identified as possible contestants in subsequent articles were Darrah, Michelle, Osten and Trish. SNN now has a Scorecard which better defines which players were alluded to in the Accidental Tourist article.

I assume that Snews has a source inside CBS or if the party somehow had to do with him finding out some of his info.
