"Isn't It Against the Rules To Throw A Challenge?" |
Over on the official Survivor Website at CBS, they are stating in the episode 5 recap that Boran threw the challenge in order to be able to vote off a member. But isn't throwing a challenge against the rules of the game?

eb--Well, obviously it is not against the rules because they did it without any penalty (other than going to TC which of course was what they wanted so is not really a penalty). I think it is against the rules not to show up to a challenge. But how can they make people try their hardest at a challenge? That would not really be an enforceable rule because there is no way to "prove" someone intentionally lost. As a matter of fact, I think people have probably not tried their hardest at challenges is just about every version of Survivor in order not to look like a threat to others.

Richard threw that challenge where they had to hold on to the pole. He did it so Rudy and Kelly would have to make the decision of picking him to sit beside for the final vote. He knew that he would lose to Rudy in a vote. And if he didn't pick Rudy who he had promised to stick with then he would alienate people. So it was in his best interest to let Rudy and Kelly boot each other and pick Richard for the final.

Colby and Tina also threw the same challenge.Colby was the second to jump of the log in order to draw votes toward himself after the merge. Tina got off and GAVE keith immunity so Kucha could not vote for him.
