Let's see how the bootees match the stereotype of their race and gender, and whether or not those qualities cost them.
Fourth bootee - J.P., an hispanic man. Stereotypical hispanic/latino man (as described by your average bigot): lazy, dirty, drug-peddling, women-chasers and not willing to adapt to the dominant culture. How did J.P. rate?
-- Definitely lazy. Of course, Nathan and Adam weren't much better but we'll address them whenever they get booted off.
-- In Survivor, everybody gets real dirty and smelly real quick. Push. Again.
-- J.P. wasn't trying to lick toads or anything, so we'll have to say no on the drug-pushing.
-- We didn't see much of his flirtations, but I bet he did. One-eigth point just on my suspicions.
-- He tried to sort of define the tribe, so it didn't seem like he had to adapt to anybody. But then seven of his tribe mates went against him, so he must not have fit in as well as he thought. J.P. gets 2.125 on a scale of 5 (will someone please check my math?). Still not a ringer for any stereotyope, but closer than the last one.

I'm to the point where I don't really "notice" the race of anyone. I see the skin color, but race doesnt' register. They're all just people playing the game. (some of them not so well) I had to stop and think, "J.P. was hispanic?" So I guess that speaks to his not living up to the stereotype!

I'm to the point where I don't really "notice" the race of anyone. I am totally with you on that. I think it is because they collapsed the "tribes based on race" so quickly, and moved to the traditional two tribe approach. And like you, I honestly couldn't tell which group JP was initially part of.

I see that too...it isn't about race for me so much as old tribe affiliation, which is how it usually shakes down on Survivor anyway. I don't see "J.P.'s Hispanic" so much as I see "J.P.'s from that dumb$#!* tribe that threw that challenge."
