RCASTANEDAIII 10 desperate attention whore postings DAW Level: "Got Milk? Spokesperson" 01-25-05, 10:54 PM (EST) ""Ep. 13 - 4 Continents, 24 Cities, 40,000 Miles "" This is the title for the episode going to air on Feb 8, 2005 so make spoils 2 Hour Episode. After four Continents, 24 cities, and more than 40,000 miles (and tons of screaming matches from its prickly cast) the sixth edition of the Emmy winning reality series crowns its $1 million first-place team. "It's a geat adrenaline ruch from the beginning to end," says host Phil Keoghan of the two-hour finale. "we've been blessed with another close finish." Four teams start off in Shanghai on the penultimate leg of the race, which ends with one duo being eliminated. The remaining pairs ultimately head back to the U.S. for the final sprint to the finish line. As per TV Guide online listing!   Top

That began with TAR 5, and the Bowling Moms. Yes and there was discussion about this elsewhere (I don't remember what topic it was under). We concluded that they changed it so that no top 3 team would have to be stripped of or beg for money on the final leg. So, the finale will be like TAR 5. 4 teams, two legs and an elimination halfway.   Top

Half way through the finale, they have a NEL. Last season, episode 12 was a NEL, thus going into the 2 hour finale with 4 teams. Halfway through the finale, they had an Elim where the bowling moms got sent packing. So this year is just going to be identical to last year, but opposite of what they've done in years past.   Top

The USA and N America have always been in the count, so they are Asia, Africa, Europe, N America. Australia will have to wait for next season. For the cities, TAR has usually gone with the minimalist approach. They only took the seriously major cities, with a sizable distance between them, for the count. I think these are the 24 they mean. (This is assuming the race ends in Chicago.) 1. Chicago The starting city is usually counted. 2. Reykjavik Counting clue directions as well. 3. Vatnajokull 4. Keflavik Pitstop sign. Includes the Blue Lagoon. 5. Oslo The ski-jump is within the greater city boundaries. 6. Brandbu 7. Voss 8. Stockholm 9. Häggvik 10. Dakar Kayar and Lac Rose are too small to be considered cities. 11. Berlin Devil's Mountain is within Berlin's boundaries. 12. Budapest 13. Eger 14. Ajaccio 15. Calvi Zilia is too small to be counted as a city. 16. Ile Rousse 17. Nice 18. Addis Ababa 19. Lalibela 20. Colombo 21. Galle 22. Kandi 23. Sigiriya I usually don't argue with Pitstop signs. 24. And it is not so far out of the way. Direct flights from Shanghai to Melbourne for the first hour; then to the USA most flights from Australia would go through Hawaii, so that may account for the sighting we have of Kris and Jon on flight from Honolulu to Los Angeles. And they may not count No. America as a continent visited since the race started and ended here. And does anyone have a good idea of where this race ends up? Are we sure it will be Chicago?   Top

They always do the hand holding running in unison thing when approaching the mat! They're also wearing the same clothes as in the other caps of Leg 1. #53 is Adam & Rebecca in hawaii #54 same clothes but almost looks like they're making the "home stretch" run! they dont' have their backpacks on either. I can't tell if they look happy or not! My brain said Aaron & Hayden won, but gut said Adam & Rebecca. Knowing Hayden & Aaron are most likely eliminated, that leaves me with my gut! please don't let the voting polls in Florida be true.   Top

I'd say your right about #28 - they are running toward the pit stop but if you look at the people around them they look Asian to me. #54 - I wish I could see the license plates on the cars to see what state this is in - However they are def wearing different clothes than in the key challenge - but same as Hawaii. I would say your gut is doing much better than your brain (but of course - I could be wrong)   Top

"RE: Foreshadowing?" so that would seem to add creedence to the pit stop being in China and NOT after they get to Hawaii. It even looks like the back of the male country's representative is in the shot too. Wonder if we can figure out where that is? looks like a square of some sorts...that green wall might be specific to a particular square too. The bad thing about the shot of A/R running, is that it doesn't look like they're hurrying too much which might mean they dont' think they're gonna take the checkered flag!   Top

I've seen discussion of both Chicago and Hawaii as the finish points. Looking closely at pics #31 & 54 don't give a clear hint but both of these pictures are of the "home stretch" run it seems to me. To try to pinpoint the location better, I think you need to examine all elements of the photos. Two giveaways that these shots are not from China are the cars in the background - one looks like a Caddy and one is a mini-van. Others look like a VW and Toyota. Sure given the international nature of autos it could be another place but it just has the feel of an american parking lot. Next are the 2 signs in #31. They have the shape of signs seen in the US as opposed to the International type found in other countries. Trying to pinpoint the US location better, it would have helped to have more detail in the licence plates but both Hawaii's and Illinois' have light colored backgrounds. The trees in pictures don't look tropical but more like you'd see in the lower 48. Also, in #31 the "sleepers" laying on the ground near the edge of the path are wood. That's not usual for any tropical climate - they'd deteriorate too fast. Finally, at least when I was in Hawaii in the 80's, all parked cars seemed to have some sort of screen in the window to keep the sun off of the interior. Yes, there are trees around to provide shade but it just seemed like habit to me for everyone to prop something up when they parked. None of the parked cars seem to have anything in their windows. So is it Hawaii or someplace else? My guess is back in Chicago.   Top

I have been to the top of Diamond Head (inactive volcano) on the main island in Hawaii - Oahu. Looks like to me that they are on the top at the observation point. About 20 min drive from the airport. All the talk was about the strategy of a revenge yield vs. yielding the better team. The consensus among the players was that revenge was a poor choice. Blend this with Phil's comment earlier this season that the finale comes down to a footrace. Add in Kendra's breathing difficulties, and the athletic skills and determination we've seen from Kris. I think we're set up for J/K to beat F/K to the finish line when Kris outruns Kendra. The only other outcome, in my mind, is for Rebecca to carry Adam to victory, ala Flozach. If she does that, she deserves more than a million bucks. These reality show contestants need a reality check!   Top

CBS mentioned that the stop in Sri Lanka was several weeks before the tsunami. Several weeks to me is less than a month, which would put the ending sometime in early December, which would make the scenes with greenery in them an impossibility for a Chicago finish. On the other hand, if they were still filming in early December, it would mean that they were already airing episodes before the race finished, which seems unlikely.   Top

The teaser on the website says one woman struggles with a tedius but simple task to the point of tears and thinks about quitting. My guess is Hayden or Kendra. In the previews of the Lock/Key Roadblock, we see Kris alone Rebecca alone Rebecca with Kendra Rebecca with Hayden There are no shots of Kris with any other racer from what i can see. My guess is Kris & Rebecca are first, then hayden & Kendra show up. Both Kendra and Hayden have problems (Kendra shouting to Freddy 'I'm going as fast as i possibly can' and Hayden breaking her key) so my guess is they take the longest to complete the Roadblock. Has anyone identified whether it's a train or the cable car that H/A are next to when he chucks his backpack?? If it's the cable car, i can see this being *after* the roadblock where she broke her key and broke down crying. The roadblocks are usually just before the pit stop. Aaron would know they're coming in last. that is, IF that's a cable car and not a train they're next to.   Top

CBS may deliberately not showing us pics of A/H just to let us think they have been eliminated in China. They could easily have a roadblock & detour in Hawaii before arriving at their pit stop (#28) where one team (all guesses are good) is finally eliminated. If it's true, A/H could be in the final 3. (Compare #10 with #15) The purple tank has spaghetti straps, and the top of the shirt goes straight across her back, while the shirt at the airport has a high back that comes up around the neck. The airport shirt also looks different from the pink tank -- so I don't know if this means she changes three times -- but it could mean when they are at the airport this is still leg one, imo.   Top

(click on tandem menu and scroll to bottom for the photo of the jacket) puddin's #44 shows a white plane with rainbow stripe along it, which is the same as their planes. (which you can see if you click on photos) Also your #411 shot of the island matches the location of the Skydive Hawaii headquarters. (well it would match if it was rotated 180 degrees.) It's the only spot on the hawaii islands that matches the topography from what i have found so far. You can see their location on the map by clicking "map" on their website. Behind the aircraft is the northen edge of the mountains. The skydive Hawaii is at an old WWII airfield the the US Army used. Dillingham Army Airfield. The military in hawaii currently still us the area between the airstrip and the mountains for training. When I was there in 99, I really dont remember that the skydive Hawaii had a DC-3 aircraft, that is shown jumping out of. I currently trying to verify this. We know that they are in hawaii due to the pictures of the tandem jumpers, jumping in Hawaiian shorts.   Top

But it's on the east coast. The air field is on the north coast. The Nuuanu Pali Lookout is in the southern Koolau Range. From its 1200ft elevation you can have brilliant views of the windward coast. This is where Kamehameha the Great routed Oahu's warriors during his invasion of the island in 1795. Directions: Take H1 east bound from Waikiki. Then take the Pali Highway, Route 61, via Nu'uanu Pali Drive. Follow the signs to the Lookout. Open 9am-4pm daily.   Top

At the start of the previews, when the gate opens for all the teams, where is that? is that to be let in to where the gondolas are (which is the locks/roadblock) or is it something else? I believe our only clip of the pit stop is the one of Hayden and Aaron running hand in hand in a square. The only distinguishing characteristics of that square is the low green wall. I'm sure not an aweful lot of squares/plaza's have that sort of feature. If we can find that green wall, we find the pit stop. I'm going to tackle the green wall and see what i can come up with.   Top

Has there EVER been a season of Amazing Race where the racers are in another city, state and/or country and are given the clue "Fly to _________ and proceed to the finish line at ________"??? Hasn't there *ALWAYS* been something they have to do first once they land? Like the maze at the stockyards in Dallas last year or the searching of the stadium seating. I've never seen anyone go from Airport directly to the finish line before. The reason I ask this, is because the big "spoiler" of seeing Kris & Jon on the plane from hawaii to chicago is doing just that! They mentioned that the "cute young couple" had the clue to make their way to Buckingham Fountain and were asking to see which was the fastest way to get there. I know it's very specific and detailed for it *not* to be the way the spoiler person said it was...but something is nagging me big time that it's just not right!   Top

A lot of the guesses are similar to things that have posted on these boards, like (1) a lot of bets have been placed on Freddy and Kendra, so they might win (2) in one of the preview pics, Adam and Rebecca seem to be approaching the finish line, but don't appear to be running as fast as they might if they were coming in first; (3) Hayden and Aaron don't seem to appear in the Hawaii pics, putting them in 4th place; and (4) by process of elimination that leaves Kris and Jon in third place. These things also could all be misdirection. Unless its clear who posted this "spoiler," and where they got their info, I wouldn't take it as anything more than a guess. Do you know if the team rankings appeared before or after each team was eliminated? If they predicted anyone else's departure before it happened, that would lend some credibility to it. However, I would tend to think the rankings were put next to the teams as they were eliminated, based on the comments by each team. Also, I think if this has been around for a while it would have shown up here before.   Top

That is the North Peak, not the West Peak. The captioning on the website is wrong. Also, Huashan is Chinese Mountain, not Flower Mountain. Below is a re-analysis of the clues. Locks Apparently the lock on the railing thing is quite popular on holy mountains in China. Same task as we speculated on before, just on a different mountain. Bus Seat Wording This has me confused. The wording does indeed say 'xxx Hua Shan', but it is a different 'Hua'. (The peak is the 'Hua' meaning Chinese and the wording says 'Hua' meaning Flower.) Also, the mountains in the Huashan range do not use the word 'Shan'. They are referred to as 'Feng (Peaks)'. Yu (Jade) The Yuquan Si (Jade Spring Temple) is at the Main Entrance to Huashan, so this might be what it's referring to. This might then be inside a bus at a checkpoint instead of inside a cable car. Cable Cars A cable car serves Huashan. A minibus brings tourists from Huashan Village to the base of the cable car for Y10. The ride (round trip Y100) brings the teams up to the North Peak, where the locks are. The signboard in the 'aftershow' previews does match up with the one that Gingerman38 posted. They are using the Traditional Chinese word for 'Hua'. Another thought. If they're passing Xian, why is there no sign of a single terracotta soldier?   Top
