You know, I can certainly understand your perception of this show because I have mulled over the same things. But when all is said and done and I push all this aside, I learn from it. No matter how shallow it may seem, or staged or scripted, I really have walked away from SO with some great awarenesses. Frankly, I am glad Allison is gone as she was a real impediment to the show. Regardless, though, of the final outcome of these women's lives, I am learning from their journey.

I agree, and although I like Iyanla's insight on some issues I find her to be a little too overbearing sometimes. Other times I find her to be bullyish and self righteous. I know that sometimes the women need to be kicked in the butt, on the other hand some of her tactics are un-called for. I contemplated trying out for the show when the casting call came to my city, but after seeing Iyanla I knew that her tactics werent for me and that I would probably be kicked off the show for cussing her butt off. Also, especially this season it seems more like a hazing than a show about helping women through their problems. I mean, they have women sitting in muck, people cleaning out nasty cars, people locked in jails, etc. When I first started watching the show I liked it because the life coaches seemed sincere and focused on the house mates, not it seems as if the show is about Iyanla. I guess they thought Iyanla would put a new spin on the show, but in my opinion, her presence has really sensationalized it and its becoming really fake.

I have gotten A LOT from SO in the past but this year is pathetic. Yes, it is a reality show but it is the only one that has HAD some redeaming value. In the past they tried to actually have integrity and make the house reasonably safe for the women to express their feelings and understand their issues. Now it is a free-for-all and definitely NOT a safe place. I personally would be afraid to express ANYTHING. There is no integrity, the mental and emotional safety of the women is of no concern, and the few lessons and actual growth taking place isn't even shown. (I posted the remainder of this on a different thread ... one discussing Lisa1. But I went from ranting about Lisa to ranting about the entire show.) I'm sick to death of this season and what they have done to the original premise of SO. I saw again recently the story about the HS guy who started a letter writting campaigne to stop the government from discontinuing the funding of the exploration of Pluto. He actually got enough letters and the program continued. Have any of you sent letters stating how disgusted you are in this season? I have planned to ... just didn't yet. If a HS kid can do what he did, can we not get the notice of the producers of SO? Afterall, we are the ones who originally began watching the show and are now the ones who are planning to STOP watching altogether if something isn't done. Maybe if they hear from enough of us it might make them stop and think before they polute the airwayes with more Allison's, Lisa's, and all the crappy gossip they insist is more important than finding out things like ... Christina's mother is coming and she has to have spent plenty of time discussing & preparing with IV ... just one example. I'm surprised ANYONE has made ANY progress this year since all we seem to see is the nastiness. From watching the show, you would think ALL that goes on in that house is a lot of meanness, nastiness, and hate. There HAS to be more to it than that and if we ALL write in, even just a short note, someone may actually take note. As it is, we sit day after day, sick to death of all this crap and MAYBE if we bombard their email we could get a message across. All that is needed for crap on SO to triumph is for loyal viewers to do nothing. Anyone with me on writting in???????????
