In the video it looks like he is either running past her and pushing her out of the way or maybe grabbing the clue out of her hand but I would think that is not allowed?

Well I would hope it is like Tai's clue where they have the clue stuck in the tree and are racing toward a another tree (black palm tree in Tai's case) to dig at the bottom where I assume there is a box buried and a tool nearby for retrieving the key out of a canister far up in the that tree.
