"Team Penultimate: Why I root for them" |
I read several different boards and sites for this show and note that no one likes Lenny & Karyn much. The reasons are numerous and fully justified - he's very passive, she's screechy, neither of them seem terribly bright, they don't work well together, and they don't look like they're having much fun.This is why I like to root for them. Nothing comes easy for them, so every minor victory seems all the more sweet (first to Rome! Curse the producers for not allowing them to press their advantage - they need all the help they can get). Whether they know it or not, they're implementing the ultimate in tortoise strategies - it doesn't matter where you finish, as long as you don't come in last. Or, at least, don't come in last when it counts. There is also the sense that if these guys can do it, and do reasonably well, ANYONE can play this game. And maybe win. I don't expect them to keep it up for too much longer. They might survive one more cut, but it's unlikely they will make it through two. There are just too many teams that are too much better than they are. But it has been fun watching them so far, and I'll continue to root for Team Penultimate for as long as they can hang around.

Well, I'm glad SOMEONE is rooting for them. I'm rooting for them too, but to lose as fast as possible. Even before Team Guido because they are at least entertaining. Lenny is just too useless for words (although I do like Karyn).
However, I did think it was a shame that when they finally got a break and got to Rome first, that they had to wait to get the next clue. I actually felt sorry for them then.

She is so disrespectful to Lenny. There were so many occassions where she would force him to make a decision, then she would yell at him when it didn't work out. I don't see them lasting much longer. The stress of the race has definitely shown the world the dysfunction in their relationship though, hasn't it?
