As those of you who’ve made the very-appreciated effort to follow along – first at Signs of Survival: A Sneak Peek and now here – know,
Signs of Survival: Cagayan has been a work in very long progress. And that has been, primarily, because each time I’ve begun
to put together its text, another birthdate was corrected at Survivor Wiki. Five in all.
The last, and most momentous, of those changes was of Tony’s birthday. And the correction that accurately made of Cagayan’s Sole Survivor
a Virgo (and a member of its Majority Sun Sign population) rather than a Sagittarius (and a member of its Minority Sun Sign population) wasn’t made at that site until May 27th – several days after the broadcast of Season Twenty-Eight’s Finale -
and four days after I – more and more puzzled by Tony’s exhibition of behaviors and traits uncharacteristic of Sagittarius –
finally stumbled across the information.
I am so sorry that this series of error-in, error-out blunders occurred during a truly iconic Season when Survivor’s
editing, promotion and casting patterns were obviously undergoing extensive renovation. It would certainly have been helpful to know that Tony as Sole Survivor would fit a reliable, established casting pattern rather than be
the fourth very unlikely exception to it.
So, if I should ever again decide to author a Signs of Survival, I will conduct my own date-of-birth searches
via a number of cross-referenced sources sufficient to provide confidence in the results. Promise. The Good News Despite the fact that there was little-to-no accurate Sourced Spoiling available until shortly before the Finale began airing
- and that the Vidcaps, Teases and Edit were suddenly speaking in strange tongues this Spring -
- and that this thread’s predecessor became more confusing with each changing birthdate -
- dabo's Confessionals' Tracker remained a valuable resource – suzzee’s WAG formula made a stunning debut in The ABC -
– Tribe’s SOTS and Michel's The Characters and their Stories inspired analysis and directed our focus throughout -
and there were ultimately ten of our number who recorded
their prediction of Tony’s victory before 8:00 PM last Wednesday
in this Spoiler's Forum or in the Game Forum. Congratulations!
And please help me see to it that no Shark is left behind ...

Astrology's Sun Sign Profiles are the tool. They are not the topic. The Good News II Because Cagayan was so remarkably Wild and Wonderful (a shameless bit hillbilly hoorah)
– and the dates of its contestants’ births even more unpredictable from Episode to Episode than its boot order –
- and we now have all of those post-finale interviews as supplemental grist for our mill –
this review is certain to be a fresh and refreshing look at S28 and a much better-informed and more entertaining preview of S29.
For, as sure as God made little green apples, the same eight – or nine – or dozen – fundamental personalities will show up in Nicaragua
and nothing of what we learn about them now will be wasted in September. Promise. So, I’m looking forward to a discussion
that will - with any luck - keep us occupied all the way to Survivor: San Juan del Sur.
The Premise
You cannot change who you are … eventually your true nature will win out — especially when you’re deprived of food and energy and you’re out in the open, trying to figure out a way to get along with people you don’t know if you can trust. We all have our set reactions, and that’s hard to suppress. If I’m a born leader, it’s hard for me to take a back seat. If I’m a follower by nature, it’s hard for me to lead. ~ Jeff Probst The product of Survivor’s exhaustive psychometric testing and tracking mechanisms – that may or may not include Astrological analyses - is unavailable to us. So, Signs of Survival uses Astrology’s Sun Sign Profiles
(vetted over – literally – thousands of years)
to identify, group and chart the behavioral histories of distinct societies within the Game.
And, in the process, to expose the Series’ casting patterns. Note:: ‘Modern’ psychometric profiles rely heavily upon self-reported data to come to their conclusions.
Astrology’s Sun Sign Profiles, on the other hand, rely solely upon a set of objective facts – the month, day, year, place (and time) of birth -
to reach theirs.
However, as is the case when any methodology must rely on the most basic editions of its analytical tools to evaluate behavior, the portrait of the individual’s inherent behavioral traits and innate characteristics produced here is far from complete. For instance: If we knew not only the calendar date and place of a contestant’s birth but the time of it as well,
we would know a lot more about her personality. And if I were an Astrologer with impressive interpretive skills,
we would know a lot more still.
But, although they certainly don’t do justice to either the complex personalities of the contestants or to the exhaustive and amazingly accurate analyses of those personalities offered by professional Astrologers, because Survivor’s stressful social cultures tend to trigger core behaviors stripped of subtlety and nuance – and because the Series’ producers tend to cast broad stereotypes -
the broad brushstrokes of Sun Sign Profiling found here do - work. Note: From Borneo through Heroes v Villains, I was able to rely on CBS biographies for birthdates. However, from Nicaragua forward, I’ve had to rely on a patchwork of sources to produce what I believe are the most accurate compilations possible.
I am certain that my data base is no longer perfect. But I am hopeful that it is close. And with that in mind:
Because of a family mini-crisis that consumed most of my time from late November of last year until early February of this year,
I haven’t yet put the finishing touches on Signs of Survival: Blood v Water.
And I hope that I’ll be able to do that before Fall. But, I am aware that there were corrections of several of that Season’s birthdates at Survivor Wiki and all of those changes were incorporated

But, whether you take that look or not, within the Post is a suggestion that I hope you’ll consider. Because when you’ve followed it,

The Basics
Astrology groups personalities, first, by the common innate traits and behaviors of the natives of each of the twelve Astronomy-inspired
Sun Signs.
Keyword – Ego.
Astrology then places each of the twelve in a group of three Sun Signs defined by the characteristics of one of the four Philosophy-inspired
Elements.

One of the things 'Survivor' has going for it is it's a really good format. The structure of the show tends to work over and over and over.
You put new people in the same situation and then you think what are they going to do and what would I do if I were in that same situation.
~ Jeff Probst And Survivor's format is exactly the reason that Signs of Survival tends to work over and over and over. Because, not only does Survivor - a study in reversion to type - recreate the same situation Season after Season after Season - a strange (and strangely intimate) social complex framed by a harsh and unfamiliar physical environment with the whole of it erratically subjected to externally-controlled inanities and crises - it also - as Jeff Probst indicates - quite naturally recreates the same structure Season after Season. To explain: The Sun Signs are Astrology’s basic unit. But, as you saw in the previous Post, the Signs’ natives are also categorized by their membership in one of four social groups that are each composed of three Signs said to exhibit compatible innate traits and predictive behaviors. And each of the four groups is described by its members’ overarching characteristic and designated by their common dominant influence - Element: (Practical) Earth, (Emotional) Water, (Spontaneous) Fire and (Intellectual) Air. In addition, the Earth and Water Signs are considered to be naturally complementary. As are the Fire and Air Signs. And where there are natural complements there are, of course, natural oppositions: the – temperamental – structure of any and every social contest - Fire and Air vs Earth and Water. So, given Survivor's cornucopia of threats to its participants' mental, physical and emotional stabilities, intrinsic behavior patterns are very rapidly exposed and the most prevalent tend to dominate its social/psychological culture. And it is not surprising, then, that a member of its (natural) Majority is far more likely to become the Sole Survivor of his Season than is a member of the Game's (natural) Minority. Before Tony's win (as you can see in the Chart - just below - that displays the Elements performances through twenty-one completed Majority|Minority Seasons), the score was 18 (86%) to 3 (14%) in favor of the Majority. It is now 19 (86%) to 3 (14%) in favor of the Majority. To date only Tina (in The Outback), Yul (in Cook Islands) and Jud (in Nicaragua) have beaten Survivor's casting mavens at the Game within the Game. Note: Several years ago, in Signs of Survival: Gabon, I wrote 'I haven’t found a common thread between The Outback and Cook Islands that might tell me when another Tina or Yul is going to pop up ... But ... there was a span of six prejudicially-cast Seasons between (them) and that ominous milestone won’t be reached again until (at least) Survivor 20 …'. And five prejudicially-cast Seasons later, Jud did pop up. And with Cagayan's conclusion, the seventh Majority|Minority Season since Nicaragua has passed. Just sayin'. So, it must be said that the results of the Series' Majority|Minority casting scheme have been remarkably consistent. Reliable. And useful. All bells and whistles - twists and turns - notwithstanding: Whether or not there are Hidden Immunity Idols in the Game and/or whether or not they are played and/or whatever powers those Idols posess ... Whether there are one, two, three, or four initial Tribes ... Whether there is, or is not, an Exile or Redemption Island ... Whether the show is filmed in Asia, Africa or on any generic Pacific beach ... Whether the contestants are, or are not, divided by race, sex, age, experience, familial relationships or preferences ... Whether initial tribal divisions and subsequent swaps and switches are decided by Pick ‘Ems, Place ‘Ems or Snatch ‘Ems ... Whether the Season’s Challenges are bizarrely brutal or boringly benign ... Whether the ‘twists’ imposed on the contestants during the course of the contest are few or many ... Whether sixteen, eighteen, nineteen or twenty persons begin the Game ... Whether there is an odd or even number of Jurors ... Whether there is a Final Two or a Final Three ... And whether or not the majority of the cast are recruits, returnees, members of an ethnic or political minority or just garden-variety gluttons for punishment ... The pattern persists. And about those six Balanced Seasons (in the upper-left corner of the Chart): Sun Sign divisions are roughly aligned with our calendar months. And the birth rates per month in the United States have been, for almost a century, relatively uniform. So, each of the Zodiac's two Natural Tribes (E&W|F&A) is composed of roughly ½ of the general population. Yet, only those six Seasons have been cast ‘straight-up’: 50% - 50%. And Fire and Air natives have won four of the six. Interestingly, all four of those Fire and Air natives were women. So, perhaps there is some validity to the argument that without the expert manipulation of its contestant populations that is revealed in the remainder of the Chart, Survivor would have become a game dominated by a handful of personality types and one gender. And would, then, have disappeared from our television screens long ago ...
So: As Survivor's producers have obviously learned well, knowing what those ‘new people' are going to do within that environment is merely a matter of identifying - and quantifying – those intrinsic behavioral patterns. And (type)casting to order. However, even with the best of psychometric tools and the most expert of analysts, reading and/or predicting human behavior is never a foolproof venture. And, since you’ll find nothing but amateurs here, I hope everyone will be encouraged to become a part of this venture. Because, although each of us is a novice in the field, we are all well-informed novices. Each of us have a Sun Sign. And each of everyone we have ever met, known, loved or loathed has a Sun Sign. And we've each been observing the behaviors of all of those others since the day we were born. Keeping all of that - and the fact that, with the exception of the six Seasons on the upper-left-side of the Chart just below, each, as you can see, was a contest between two unevenly-matched Natural Tribes and that a member of the Majority won eighteen of the twenty-one – in mind ...

the next Chart is of those two Natural Tribes at S28's Merge and graphically illustrates the internecine warfare in the Earth and Water camp that almost wiped out its stabilizing Subordinate natives (and, yes, I am including J’Tia and Lindsey) but permitted Tony to thrive and Spencer to survive.
An anecdote: On May 11th, Tasha’s birthdate was corrected at Survivor Wiki from February 23rd - Pisces to January 3rd – Capricorn. A (Cardinal | Superior) Sign that she confirmed as her own in an interview with TV Guide:
Guide: Out of the remaining players, is there anyone who wouldn't get your vote if they made it to the final three?
Tasha: Yeah. If Kass made it to the final three, she definitely would not get my vote. Everyone else, as a juror, if they give me a good story and give me a good narrative, then I would consider voting for them. But Kass, absolutely not. I hold grudges, and I'm a Capricorn, so it's just in my nature. I wouldn't be able to forgive her even if I wanted to. Note: But, here is the portion of the interview that I thought was most interesting:
Guide: First things first. What is Tony's secret to making people not vote for him?! Tasha: Tony is still in the game because he has two people in his alliance who know their roles. Woo is the enforcer, so he just pretty much goes with what Tony tells him to do. And then Trish is the cleanup woman. Even if she doesn't know what's going on, no matter what, she'll clean it up for him and make sure everything's okay. So when you have two people in your alliance who really don't necessarily care to take charge and they play their roles that's how you stay in the game. If I had a Trish and a Woo, I'd still be in the game too. Note: I added the emphasis … Note (Added 5/22-23): As I mentioned somewhere at the time, Tasha's behavior during her interview with Parvati Shallow surprised me because it was so at odds with a portrayal that didn't seem to contradict her identity as a Pisces. In fact, I wrote off her insistence upon "strategizing" to the Pisces tendency to be more comfortable within clearly-deliniated boundaries with clearly-defined rules. However, the Tasha on stage during that interview made perfect sense as a Capricorn gleefully embracing all of that Sign's more imperfect traits. So, immediately following Tony's win last evening (May 21st), I posted a message to his public Facebook address congratulating him and asking if he would be kind enough to confirm his birthdate for me. Because, for some time now, a remark made by Kass in the Game (TDT Calendar Date: August 9th) to the effect that perhaps Tony would sufficiently mature before he became 40 - in two months - has begun to make more and more sense. And that is because Tony's insomnia and indecision (as he replayed his day and prepared for the next), paranoia (sharply contrasted by his careful cultivation of allies), erratic behaviors, extraordinary attention to physical detail and compulsion to maintain/restore social harmony are far more natural to a Virgo (August 24 - September 23) or a Libra (September 24 - October 23) than to a Sagittarius born four months later - on December 18th. Too, it would be ironic if Tony did share a Sun Sign (Libra) with Russell Hantz and Officer Sarah. It could be, of course, that in the the Game Tony was an extremely focused Sagittarius. But, I am looking forward to hearing from him. Note (Added 5/24): Well, I haven’t heard from Tony. But, very late last night, I checked Survivor Wiki one more time for any updates of Tony’s birthdate and then ran the one more search that produced the Wikipedia Page that referenced the About Tony Page that said that Tony was born on September 10, 1973. And that would make him a Virgo. So, I don’t know whether to be pleased – because Tony as a Virgo is a lot better for the numbers and a lot more interesting than Tony as a Sagittarius and because this Season can’t seem to stop being crazy just because it’s over – or to be really ticked – because it’s going to take me several hours to redo all of the Charts … for the fifth time. And this is a holiday weekend jammed full of family plans. Bear with me …

Now, about that Review
I’ll admit that the Merge is a slightly strange place to begin a review of the Final Four, but I wanted you to see the graphic evidence of the pros – and the cons – of the G-Theory on display in this Chart and the tremendous impact that they had on the endgame:
‘Although the designations Superior, Subordinate and Soloist do not have direct parallels within Astrology, they do roughly correspond with the designations Leader, Follower and Renegade associated with Nash’s Game Theory.
But there is a very essential difference between the two concepts behind the labels. Leader, Follower/ and Renegade refer to transient Roles that are adopted and/or discarded at will during gameplay and reflect the premise that successful Survivors choose what they are to be within the Game. Superior, Subordinate and Soloist refer to Roles that are intrinsic to the individual’s personalityand reflect the premise that, more often, successful Survivors choose to be what they are within the Game.
And that last is based upon the G-Theory that the midst of a crisis (and Survivor is a crisis environment) is a really bad time to attempt to invent a new personality ...'
The seven people at the top left of this Chart are the Season’s natural Superiors. And the people at the bottom left of the Chart plus Jeremiah (over on the Fire and Air Tribe) naturally prefer to play vital supportive roles in hierarchal structures.
But, the seven chose to abandon leadership – by one means or another - and in that process expelled six of the Game’s nine Subordinates ('six', to sound like an HR manager, 'of their most valuable assets') from the Game before the Merge.
Specifically: LJ, uncharacteristically for a Capricorn, decided to postpone playing the Game with authority and to aid and abet his rival. While Brice, Lindsey (and Cliff and Sarah) were booted and Woo remained firmly in an alliance that was never more than a committed three deep.
Tasha, I think, made a credible attempt to lead early on. However poorly. Then, while she, like LJ, worked diligently to keep her rivals (Kass and then Spencer) in the Game, David, Garrett, J’Tia, Alexis and, eventually, Sarah and Jeremiah left it.
Although some exiting players have credited Jefra with sustained attempts to be actively involved in the social contest, Morgan, it would seem, made little. However, both appear to have adopted a Subordinate role for the duration.
Spencer and Kass played the same solitary, cynical, opportunistic Game. And although I did, at one point (before I realized the strength of Tony’s three-person group), credit Spencer with the only two loyal, committed allies in Cagayan, his dismissive backhand to the departing Morgan and his unnecessary sacrifice of Jeremiah were revealing testimonies to his failure to understand the value of leadership. Of course, these two also waved off David, Garrett, J’Tia, Alexis and, eventually, Sarah and Jeremiah on their way to Final Three and Final Four.
However, given their core personalities, I think that Kass played the much smarter Game. In other words, a Scorpio’s arrival at Final Three is much more impressive than is a Cancer’s arrival at Final Four.
And Trish, who felt going into Cagayan that the former player who she was most like was the fellow Cancer, Danni Boatwright, used her not inconsiderable social talents to sustain a partnership that ultimately wasn’t. But, then, was again. Note: Rafe did not vote for Danni. And that is how Tony (the natural Subordinate/unnatural Superior) won Cagayan: The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil Virgo is that good Capricorn, Cancer and Scorpio do nothing …

The next two Charts are of the performances of the Sun Signs in All Seasons - and - in E&W Majority Seasons. Only those Signs with natives still active in the Game at the Merge are illustrated in graph form. Participants who were no longer playing at the Merge (and those Signs who were not invited to Cagayan) are indicated by check marks.
For instance: Garrett did not reach the Merge. So, the Taurus line is absent from the Chart. And no Leo were invited to Cagayan. So that line is also absent from the Chart. However, although Woo was the only Pisces remaining in the Game at the Merge, that line is shown. The percentages shown are of the number of the Signs' natives cast who reached F10, F4, F3 and F1 (Sole Survivor) in the Seasons indicated. For instance: In the twenty-seven Games played before Cagayan, 62% of the Libra who began those Games reached F10. But, in the thirteen of those Games played with an E&W Majority only 50% of the Libra who began the contests reached F10. Note: The one Libra who began Cagayan, Sarah, missed the F10 mark by one Tribal Council. And just below the Sun Sign Charts is the one that illustrates the Elements' performances from F10 to F1 (Sole Survivor) in comparison to their performances in the other thirteen E&W Majority Seasons. I will repeat this Chart group at Game milestones (as I have at F4, below) throughout the thread.

Below is a snapshot of Cagayan’s contestants in their last editorial persona: The Solarrion Tribe. And I can’t decide on which Chart - Natural or Solarrion - the two remaining (of the three original) Fire and Air natives look more isolated. And that’s why, if he had won this Game as a Sagittarius, Tony's accomplishment would have been extraordinary. As it is, a Virgo win in Cagayan was still a remarkable one.

10. "RE: The Final Four: The Preview" |

Amazing!
There were seven E&W Superiors and nine E&W Subordinates in Cagayan and only two F&A Soloists. Put another way, 89% of the Season’s players were – naturally – the right stuff of hierarchies. And hierarchies are the necessary stuff of a Game dominated by an Earth and Water culture. But, because so many of those sixteen Majority natives chose to play the Game out of character, incredibly, Cagayan produced only one durable, three-member alliance.
As Tony, in addition to making his own good fortune at every opportunity, took full advantage of every bit of the good fortune that was offered – gratis – by his rivals. And there was a lot of the latter. Much more of the latter, in fact, than was needed to win the Game.
But, the Final Four wasn’t about Tony. It was about Spencer. And so is this Review.

The Natural Tribes
Back on April 2nd, I wrote this about Spencer (in Michel’s Survivor Cagayan: The Characters and their Stories):

“The cleverness and strategic planning of Stephen, but the personality of Marty.
Like Marty, I am a natural leader and can come off as pompous or bombastic.
Also, I shared Marty’s disdain for Jane on S21.I don't think that Spencer is, or that the editing portrays him as, "clever" or "strategic". Or anything like Stephen.
Virtually nothing "clever" or "strategic" that has happened in the Game thus far has been attributable to Spencer.
He, like Kass and Tasha, has survived. Nothing more. I do think that he is a natural leader. And I wouldn't argue with his comparison of himself to Marty
(I think that he is about to become bombastic).
I, though, would compare him to JT (and GC). People do come to him. And he is able to project believable
humility, gratitude and empathy. When he really tries.
Too, like JT, he has a boyish demeanor that masks his enormous self-interest
(a prop that Marty would have killed for).
I also think that, as the Game progresses, he will find that controlling his emotions
(in particular, his distain)
will become increasingly difficult. As will controlling his intolerance of the Game's forced intimacy (as did GC).
Remembering The Kingston Trio's (Merry Minuet),
I think that Spencer '(don’t) like anybody very much' ... ) Perhaps his self-image does foretell his failure to win the Game. But, I think that he just might pull it off.
However, I also think that he would need a Stephen to make that happen. And I don't have a firm candidate.
You seem to think that he has one (or two) in Kass and/or Tasha?’ Note: Stephen is an Aquarius. Marty is a Scorpio. JT and GC are, like Spencer, Cancer natives. And Spencer shares a birthday with Borneo’s runner-up, Kelly Wigglesworth. Now, two months and Cagayan’s Final Four Tribal Council later, there is little about that pocket appraisal that I would change. Cancer have an inherent compulsion to, periodically, physically/mentally withdraw from the social activity around them and Spencer seems to have managed that trait well during his time in the Game. At least, I can’t recall an instance when the edit made an issue of Spencer’s distance. But, in many other ways, Spencer lived up to Cancer’s billing: to both the Sign’s positive and to its negative attributes.

So, having squandered every opportunity to found and maintain an alliance of his own – and it is possible that Jeremiah, a Gemini, and like Stephen, an intelligent, innovative and collegial Air native, may well have been just the endgame partner that Spencer lacked – he arrived at the Final Four with only a mutual dependency upon a Scorpio for cold comfort. And that quickly became a unilateral, and fatal, dependency when the Scorpio won Individual Immunity.
And that (from certain perspectives) was a damned shame. Because, as the two Charts (of the Sun Sign’s performances in all completed Seasons and in only those with an E&W Majority) just above and below indicate, in reaching the Final Four Spencer had – given the Game’s remaining competitors - cleared Cancer's (historically) highest hurdle on his way to a Final Tribal Council appearance.

The Solarrion Tribe
Here then (in the Solarrion Chart above), is what Spencer had waiting for him: a Jury dominated by his outwitted, outplayed and outlasted Superior peers. Who, if informal polls of their ranks are to be believed, would have given him the win. Over Kass. Over Woo. Over Tony.
One Final Note: Given his own game-long, indiscriminate supplications, Spencer’s disgusting characterization of Woo during his histrionic performance before the Jury was – inexcusable. In fact, in any circumstance, his slander would have been just as shameful.

The ‘Practical’ Earth Signs are grounded and dependable. All of the earthy metaphors are appropriate here: ‘Salt of the earth’, ‘Feet firmly planted on the ground’, ‘Solid as a rock’, etc. Often referred to as the ‘builders’ of the Zodiac, creativity is a tangible proposition to these natives and they feel best once they have accumulated a goodly number of worldly possessions. Blending in with their natural habitat – grounded – Earth Signs engage life through the five senses and as a result operate at a slower, more thorough, pace than do the natives of other Elements. Often intimately attuned to the dance of nature – most treasure their time spent outdoors – they are masters at assessing, assembling and organizing … things.
The Element of Earth also confers a sense of duty, responsibility and reliability to those in its sphere. Their gift to others is bringing form to ideas: often making them an excellent balancing partner for an idle dreamer with potential. They tend their own garden and inspire others to make the most of theirs. These are the people you can count on to ‘be there’ when you need them. Tending toward caution and conservatism in desire and approach, their logical minds and measured responses display an innate recuperative capacity: much preferring a sure thing, these folks do not take big risks. That said, however, certainly in that they appreciate a good meal, congenial company and fine wine better than anyone else, they are also sensualists. On the flip side:
Earth Signs can become so caught up in their objectives that they overlook the feelings and opinions of others. And their single-minded focus on the tasks at hand make them vulnerable to the "all work and no play" eddy of life. Those with Sun in Virgo are constantly on the move, always trying to fine-tune their lives and relationships. They are filled with nervous energy and a desire to make improvements, so they're serene only when they are fulfilling their meticulously planned steps toward a carefully chosen goal. Virgo is the only Sun Sign represented by a female and it is sometimes thought of as a delicate young girl and sometimes as an intelligent, but rather pedantic and spinsterish, older woman. The latter impression is sometimes confirmed by the Virgo’s precision, refinement, fastidiousness, conventionality and aristocratic attitude of reserve. They are natural healers and are gifted at bringing an unhealthy situation back into balance. But they have to watch out for those who would take advantage of their natures and put them in subservient roles. Finding the courage to place the highest value on what they offer can take a lifetime for some Virgos. So, given their qualities, Virgo are much more effective in subordinate rather than leadership positions. Responsibility irks them and they often lack the breadth of strategic vision that leadership requires. The ‘Emotional’ Water Signs are intuitive, sensitive and empathetic. How things feel is what matters to these nurturers and they base their actions on sense, rather than on logic or intellect. Attuned to waves of emotion, these natives have a built-in sonar for reading a mood that affords them a special sensitivity in relationships. Because the receptive talents of these individuals are so remarkably high, they seem to know when to show warmth and when to hold back. Compassionate and understanding, Water Sign natives are extraordinarily adept at assimilating the feelings of others, processing them and offering plans or solutions that will usually be considerate of all. Cancer’s emotions are as changeable as the Moon itself and their nature makes them something of an enigma, even to those closest to them. In fact, the Cancer temperament is a veritable kaleidoscope of waxing and waning feelings and during the course of a conversation, you may notice – passing fleetingly across the faces of July-born – scores of distinctively different emotions: no one ever repeated or expressed in exactly the same way. Quite simply, Cancer exude drama and these extraordinarily emotional individuals can sink into a mood and fully inhabit it, so that it seems to permeate the atmosphere around them. No other Sign has so pervasive an emotional aura as to either lift your spirits to ecstatic heights or to fill you with clouds of gloom, depending upon his mood.
Moreover, the Cancer imagination is so vivid that it’s like they’re watching home movies inside their heads. For them, every life experience can be replayed again and again and the same internal landscape revisited. This is the raw material for both creative genius and the tendency to get stuck in emotional eddies. These natives love to dream of far-away places and times past and will talk about historical events as if they were actually there. Most Cancer have a special reverence for the past, and if you ask them to tell you whom of all people they admire most, they'll most often rattle off the names of several prominent historical figures. The idiom “home is where the heart is” has no greater ring of truth than when describing how the Cancer feels about his abode. Home is where he dreams, lives, plays and loves. And Cancer has a tender heart. But you might not see it at first behind the cool exterior. Cancer is never truly happy unless they have someone or something to care for and their innate understanding of human emotion allows them to see through the pretenses of other Signs and lend encouragement, support or sympathy when needed. Both men and women of this Sign have an instinctive nurturing side that endears them to those they love and it is amazing to discover how many July-born have acquired the appendage – ‘good ol'– to their names. The Crab’s claws hold tight, though, and often they have trouble letting go of relationships and situations. But there is a private, reclusive side to every Cancer. However, if Cancer can reconcile the personal conflict of their urge to be outgoing with the reserve that causes them to withdraw into themselves, then at best they can inspire a generation, especially the youthful part of it, by their idealism. They also have a penchant for trade or business and are often successful as a captain of industry. This is because they are excellent organizers with a good sense of value and economy that they may combine with a flair for invention and originality.
Take Note: The stealth approach of Cancer often takes people by surprise, and many have been underestimated. They’ll protect their sensitivity by going after what they want indirectly, which can be seen as passive. But try to take advantage of their gentle nature, and you’ll soon be put in your place. Once crossed, the Cancer holds a grudge to infinity, so it’s hard to win back their trust. Romantically Speaking: Above all, the Cancer needs a sense of belonging and an intimate home life. Once committed, they’ll prove to be the ultimate family man or woman, and likely never stray too far from the nest.

Impressionable and Overwhelmed Pisceans are deservedly popular with all kinds of people in part because their easygoing, affectionate, malleable and submissive natures offer no threat or challenge to stronger and more exuberant characters. But they will not be able to maintain for very long friendships or associations with those who are too materialistic. As the last of the twelve Zodiac Signs, Pisces is said to contain aspects of them all. This makes the Pisces Sun so changeable as to appear not to have one singular identity. It's as if they merely touch down in this human reality and remain only long enough to try on a few personas. Consequently, those with the Sun in Pisces can seem to be "somewhere else" half the time. And because their natures are often too otherworldly for practical purposes – they tend to exist emotionally rather than rationally and instinctively rather than intellectually – the nine-to-five life is not easy for them. So it is important for these individuals to find a sense of purpose in order to avoid just drifting: their sensitivity makes them more vulnerable to escapism through addictions or personal dramas than are other Signs. The challenge to Pisces natives, then, is to somehow integrate their affinity with the more subtle planes into constructive working relationships. Fortunately, Pisceans are usually versatile and intuitive; quickly master new skills; observe and listen well; and are receptive to new ideas and atmospheres. And all these factors can combine to produce remarkable creativity in literature, music and art. This is the sign of the mystic poet, and a creative pursuit gives Pisces the motivation to be disciplined. And bringing structure to the vast imagination and shades of emotion flowing within the Pisces nature is a great achievement. And, if they're typical March-born, they are not elitists: saint, sinner, murderer, thief, liar, rich or poor - deserving or undeserving - the Piscean instinctively recognizes the worth of the individual and can overlook the apparent causes of their circumstances. But the fact that the Pisces Sun leads with a compassionate heart can be both a blessing and a curse. Many are remarkably wise and self-sacrificing when it comes to helping the vulnerable or those down on their luck. But this noble trait can take them down a path of being used and abused before they learn to set strong boundaries and they are better working either by themselves or in subordinate positions. Scorpio are the most profound and powerful characters in the Zodiac. There is a harnessed aggression, an immense forcefulness, magnetic attraction and often strangely hypnotic quality in their tranquil, but watchful, composure that can be intimidating. An outer mask of cool control belies a vast and often turbulent psychic interior. In a word, the Scorpio is intense, and works best in a crucible of pressure and uphill challenges. Without a sense of purpose, the darker emotions can take hold and lead them down the paths of obsession, jealousy and worse.
In conventional social gatherings they are pleasant to be with, thoughtful in conversation, dignified, and reserved, yet affable and courteous. And in their everyday behavior they give the appearance of being withdrawn from the center of activity. Yet those who know them will recognize the ever-probing, ever-evaluating observation that is an integral component of their character. They intuitively take in everything around them and reveal very little in return. And don’t expect instant friendship here, as it takes time to win the trust of the wary Scorpio. Scorpio are deeply sensitive and easily moved by their emotions. I can't decide whether this has become a labor of levity or of love - I don't know whether to laugh or cry about it - but I am determined to, in the end, post a completed, coherent Signs of Survival: Cagayan that will serve not only as a review of this past Season but also as an introduction to the casting analysis of Survivor: San Juan del Sur. So the sound of your friendly and encouraging voice is, as it is always, much more than merely welcome. And, if you have another moment, I would really appreciate your opinion: Given all of the delays caused by birthdate revisions, a heading mistake, my own crazy schedule and the restrictions of the Forum's software, the thread has become a confused maze of forwarding directions and chronologically-jumbled posts. So (because my next two weeks look, at long last, relatively calm), I am thinking of clearing all of the posts here (less the three - plus the four concluding posts containing the Sun Sign Profiles - that I can no longer edit) and re-posting a concise, chronologically-literate Signs of Survival: Cagayan Edited that would contain eighteen initial posts (including a copy of your own - above).
