What's up with Iyanla's closeup, with the tear coming down her face, in the opening credits? It bugs me, and it looks really self indulgent. Rhonda picture isn't even included in the opening credits, probably by choice.

LAST EDITED ON 10-24-05 AT 07:20 PM (EST)If you've watch the earlier seasons you would know the it was from a scene where she really displayed her emotions as they all have at some point or another...the LC's do become emotionally involved with some of the issues concerning the HG's and they are moved to tears....did you think they were made of stone? I'm sure Iyanla has no control over what they pick for the opening credits as well as what they choose to air. Some of you nitpick over some of the cheesiest things.(JMHO) **************************** "I walk in my own shoes..." ****************************

No way in the world that Iyanla didn't pick that shot herself. She is such a selfpromoting drama queen that I can't stand the show on days she's featured. Plus I wouldn't be surprised if she had an onion in her handkerchief the day she was so genuine.

LAST EDITED ON 10-25-05 AT 00:07 AM (EST)LAST EDITED ON 10-25-05 AT 00:04 AM (EST) >that would mean that so many other women are duped >by her, and I find that hard to believe. I find it hard to believe too, and sad. I keep watching and coming to the forums to try to figure out how she does it. I keep wondering when the empress will be discovered to have no clothes. Will it take a suicide of someone like Karen? A lawsuit? Someone you know and like being treated like crap, buried in mud, or put in a cage. How can you not see that Iyanla gives advice that is clearly contaminated by her own baggage. (adultress, angry mother, mediawhore...) Note, it's not that she did those things that I hold against her, but that she gives bad advice about it. Of course she tells women it's ok for men to sleep around, she was the "other woman." Of course she told Towanda she wasn't allowed to have an opinion about her father and his mistress. She WAS a mistress. Of course she mucked up Rachel, she had a pile of baggage to the sky on her relationship with her own daughter. If she actually had any credentials to give therapy they would have been yanked so fast it would make your head spin for that little number. It was so creepy, it was nearly incestuous. > >I had heard that when you >find yourself so contempuous of >someone else that you should ask someone close to you, >like a long-time friend, if you have any germs of >the things you despise in that other. Well, I hate Hitler too, though he was quite popular with crowds, wrote a book, and was a great public speaker. Should I compare myself with him too? Seriously, the point that a lot of people like someone is the worst reason I can think of to doubt what I see with my own eyes. But that's why I'll never drink the Iyanla kool-aid. I watch because I'm hoping someone will call her bluff and tell her off. What a charlatan. And the worse part, the absolute worst part is that she is hurting real women in the interim. It breaks my heart that women watch this show and don't know the benefit of a good social worker or trained psychologist. If you knew, you couldn't possibly watch this show with anything but alarm. p.s. I don't take advice from "lifecoaches", I certainly don't take it from a stranger in a chat room. I know you're just defending someone you like, but there's more than enough amateur psychology going on around here.

I don't get this statement....and how presumptious of you to make a statement about "a woman you claim to know nothing about"... that you know so much about her relationship with her daughter that you can spout out that she had a pile of baggage with her...and to call her an adultress (I'll give you that one..she admittedly was) an angry mother (???) and a mediawhore(????) I don't understand those claims.
You're making unfair claims against this woman again and should "take the heat" when you lite the fire under your own behind.....And I know I'll probably get into trouble with this one, however, you invited it with your post-scripted comment...there's enough amateur psychology going on around here...including yours.. **************************** "I walk in my own shoes..." ****************************

11. "RE: WARNING - LRoyce" |
I have read the guidelines. And I think you should, for newcomers like me, explain what I did wrong in this instance. I apologize for what appears to you to be bashing. That was not my intention. I was reacting to the negative bashing of Iyanla and asking the person doing it to consider the possibility that there was more to it than just her contempt for IV. Her reaction to my post was angry and over the top, since I accused of her nothing but just asked her to consider an idea. But the real problem is that I mistakenly thought that this site was like the show, a shoved-together group of women, by choice, reacting to the show and to each other. And in that process, learning about themselves and the world around them, sharing ideas and pains and ways to move past them. I wonder now what is the fine line between writing about the show and writing about oneself. If you look at most of the posts, they contain as much about the person writing them as they do about the show per se. I will try to be more careful but I will probably be tossed out if recommending that someone think about something constitutes bashing as my whole life is directed to sharing ideas with others. Again, I apologize even though I dont really see what I did that was wrong.

LAST EDITED ON 10-25-05 AT 03:06 PM (EST)LAST EDITED ON 10-25-05 AT 02:25 PM (EST) As I said before, if you have a problem with someone else's post, the guidelines tell you to alert the moderators. Don't automatically assume that someone else has done it. Don't assume that the volunteers who moderate this site read every single post on every single thread. Don't assume that just because a moderator read the thread/post in question that the mods read anything around it. You have a responsibility as a member of this forum. And as stated in the post above, if you have a question about the moderation of the site, please handle it off the threads via PM or email. Repeated questioning of a moderator's decision - and that's what these responses to the warnings are - are a violation of community guidelines. ETA: Now that this has all been addressed and warnings issued, it's time to let this part of the discussion rest and get back to discussing the original topic of the thread. Edited to clarify: This is not a second warning to LRoyce. This is a reminder to the posters who responded to my warning that their behavior was inappropriate.

I am extremely suprise about this topic. If I am not mistaking I think that tear occurred on a day when she was discussing the death of her daughter. Who wouldn't cry about such a life changing occurance. Give the lady a break... I love Iyanla and perfer the segments when she's on. Rhonda has gotten better this season, but she doesn't hold a candle to Iyanla in my opinion.

That particular shot was from Rachael's graduation. Iyanla said she felt a particularly strong bond with her. She (Rachael) had lost her mother to cancer and I believe Iyanla lost her daughter to cancer (?). I remember Iyanla saying to her "You came here as a child who lost her mother, and I come here as a mother who lost a child."

Actually that shot of Iyanla was taken as Kim was speaking at her graduation. Kim was telling her that she was a powerful woman and she is no longer a victim. She also said she loved her, thus the tears from Iyanla...Sounds fair to me!

Obviously you don't know Iyanla the woman - have you read any of her books? Know any of her history? She inspires me each day. Not only through SO but with daily devitionals from "Until Today" and other books she has written. JMO Iyanla Rocks!

blind trust. Not for me.
if she was all that and a bag of chips, why the need to be on a reality show?
Last season when she came on the show, replacing Rana, there was a survey done on the official boards......almost 87% (or 84%) of the members had never even heard of her. And at that time it was explained jsut what an LC is and where to draw the line. BUT because LC's aren't regulated they are allowed to get away with alot and ahve NO one to answer to.
Put that with a reality tv show that lives and dies on ratings and oh my. Are LC's in REAL life actually this emtional with their clients? Do they actually put their clients in baby doll clothes to go into public, put them in cages? , in boxes in the middle of summer in CA?, Allow an alcholoic to stay and abuse themselves to promote their own career?
And before anyone says these LC's ahve no saying in what is shown to us I say bullcrap!
The show is based on Rhonda's other show she had in England call: Help Me, Rhonda so I am sure they have a say. If they don't, then why would these two so called *professionals* go along with how the show is edited? Either way both Rhonda and IV are there to self promote themselves.
Blind trust.
Not for me.

first I will say that I'am an admirer of Iyanla. she has been a motivational speaker for many years befor SO.As fare as I know she does not edit the show, there are people PAID to do that job. To think she demanded that shot of her is an asumption made by someone who has admitted their dislike for the lady. for the life of me I do not understand why do you continue to watch the show. Sorta remindes me of Lisa, mean and spiteful for no apperant reason. have you heard of someone she has harmed?? have you heard of someone suing her for malicious intent??Or is this all just bashing someone for helping others, in the best way they know how. How many of you can say you would give of your time and energy to help complete strangers. Truth be told, I dont think that many!
