Analysis" LAST EDITED ON 09-08-04 AT 08:23 AM (EST) After my post about Kim doing nothing, I decided to see who was pulling their weight in the challenges and who was letting their partner do all the work. Roadblock toteboard: E1: no Roadblock E2: Ribbon Roping: Brandon, Mirna, Marsha, Karen, Bob, Colin, Lance, Chip, Kami, Donny E3: Chocolate: Brandon, Charla, Jim, Linda, Joyce, Colin, Marshall, Chip, Kami E4: Caviar: Christie, Nicole, Charla, Linda, Joyce, Lance, Chip, Karli E5: Osiris Shaft: Brandon, Charla, Karen, Lance, Chip, Kami E6: Scarab Dig: Brandon, Mirna, Linda, Lance, Kim, Karli, Colin E7: Ostrich Egg: Brandon, Charla, Karen, Chip, Kami, Colin E8: no Roadblock E9: Brick Making: Colin, Chip, Karen, Kami, Brandon E10: Zorb: Colin, Chip, Karen, Karli, Brandon Team Tally: Brandon 7, Nicole 1 Chip 7, Kim 1 Karen 5, Linda 3 Colin 6, Christie 1 Kami 5, Karli 3 Charla 4, Mirna 2 Lance 4, Marshall 1 Joyce 2, Bob 1 Marsha 1, Jim 1 Donny 1, Alison 0 Final Analysis: Of the final 4, only 1 team has even made an effort to make it even, and that's the moms. Every other team left has allowed the men to do all the work. Looks like after the Caviar challenge, Christie and Nicole have decided to follow Kim's lead and let the men do all the work. Interestingly, the only team to buck this trend? Bob and Joyce, where Joyce did 2 of their 3 roadblocks. The only team with a perfect split is Jim and Marsha, who did 1 each. So I slightly modify my accusation of Kim, and instead turn the evil eye on not just her, but also Christie and Nicole. Slackers. Edited to fix Colin's total. Thanks!   Top

Analysis" My take on this is that when you have mixed gender teams (especially couples), the men tend to do most, if not all, of the roadblocks. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing, just typical couple dynamics. I know that if I were ever fortunate enough to be on this show (which would NEVER happen!) DH would do all the roadblocks, and it wouldn't bother me a bit. The same gender couples tend to switch off more, with the glaring exception of Tian and Jaree in TAR4, if memory serves. I think the Supremes also alternated roadblocks, regardless of the task. I think it's much more interesting to have same gender couples who do alternate tasks. P.S. big kudos for you for being able to tell the twins apart!!!   Top

Then they would really have to think about who does it, knowing that next time the other member must do the block.   Top

I like your suggestion although I would modify it so that no one racer can do three roadblocks in a row. If you had to alternate it would eliminate any team decisions of who does a roadblock. For example, if Racer A does the first one and Racer B the second one then it would have to go A,B,A,B... all the way to the end which would be boring. "I have just discovered that this object I found is capable of scratching my back...I call it BACK SCRATCHER!"   Top
