I'm personally leaning towards Ghost-dad being a manifestation of Smokey (Jacob?) - off-island and shortly before we see Christian, the smoke alarm goes off... On-island, I have this sense that he is merely a form of Jacob walking around.That is what I thought as well. When Jack saw him sitting in the chair at his office, to me it looked almost exactly like Jacob in the chair. I also thought Miles looking at Claire was that he was getting the same "psychic" feelings about her and Aaron. The same as the psychic in Australia.
