"Charles is gone"
LAST EDITED ON 03-19-03 AT 09:26 PM (EST)

well, I'm suprised, but I know few others on this board will be. Blech. I can't believe we have to put up with Corey AND Julia next week. Hopefully they'll both die before Tuesday.

-----------------
I feel really bad for Charles, I had him pegged for the top 5. But selecting a song that few people liked when Michael Jackson did it in the 70's, and that the vast majority of your voting demo has never heard, in a style that they don't generally care for - you toast yourself.

It really is sad, too, because you can tell that Charles personally has a really deep connection with the song, that it meant a lot to him growing up, and now he has to live with not being able to sell it to America.

And tomorrow I have to deal with four classes full of teary high school girls (sigh)

1. "and good riddance"
Charles deserved to go. I didn't even think it was close. He did everything wrong - starting with his entrance when he gave the audience the order to stand up. Uhhhh, you earn that sh!t, Charlie. They'll get up if they're feelin ya, dawg.

Then, that truly awful performance. Gack!!

Finally, ignoring Randy and trying to play the audience. Like it was talent night at the grocery store.

Too much arrogance, too little talent.

Buh-bye, now.

This did not shock me but I really did not want him to leave this quick either. I agree the song he picked just did not work for him. The song choice is KEY!!!!!

I'm sorry but Charles should NOT have even made it to the top 12. He has a VERY thin voice, almost non-existent. Let's just put it this way, he can probably whistle and hum, BUT NOT SING !!!!!

And Cycle, I have seen productions of the Wiz, and heard Jacko's version. Charles is not even close to being Jacko in talent.

He was horrible. Although I do agree that Corey and Julia were painful to hear and watch, Charles was just as bad. PLUS, he was getting COCKY !!!!!

Thank God he is gone. Once Julia, Corey and Carmen are gone, the real competition will begin.

It just shows the importance of calling in. His boot does help out my PTTE though. I had him to go first last week.

I wasn't too surprised to see Charles get the ax.

What I'm seeing is a distinct division of the talent. There are still a few performers who just don't match up to the rest. In what order will they depart? I don't know, and I don't think it really matters. Julia and Corey are on the block this week, and I think one of them will go next week. Charles was in the group that just wasn't going to make it to through the first half of shows. It could have just as easily been one of the other two, but he just happened to be the one this week.

There are a few singers who will continue through until we get down to about six performers. At that point, I think this show will get very interesting. Ruben, Clay, and Trenyce are in the top tier because they are showing range, they are getting pretty comfortable on the stage, and they seem to be getting the audience engaged without really trying. I don't see any of these three going anywhere until we get to the final six.

Kimberly C, Josh and Ricky look to be in the second tier, and their stock moves up and down with each performance. But they have an emotional fan following that should carry them despite one less-than-stellar performance. Kimberly had hers this week, and I hope she learned her lesson. We'll see how Josh handles being country in a pop environment. Any of these could drop out of the top six, but it's theirs to lose.

Carmen and Kimberly L could move up if they are able to bring it up just another notch. Their popularity seems to rest solely on their latest performance, so they might be feeling a bit more pressure than those above them. The question is, can they rise to that challenge?

As for Corey and Julia, I think the die is cast. It's going to be very difficult for them to last beyond the next couple of weeks based on their last two performances.

Just my opinion, for what it's worth. Of course, any of them can be ousted if they come out one week and really stink the joint up.

You know Packman, I was thinking the same thing. However some country songs can edge on pop. We will see if he can survive. I do like him but I wonder if his country style will hold out.

I was really thinking Julia was gone last night. I can't see how she keeps on remaining. My top three choices for going were the bottom three people.

Now here I do agree with you waaaay over the top. Let a few bad notes out or pick the wrong song and you are GONE.

Disco is not my favorite music and if they are really singing disco next week there maybe a turn of events. We shall see.

I agree with you on Julia and Corey. However, I do think Carmen may stay a little longer than you think. Julia and Corey both have to see the end coming.

Well I have stopped watching the show religously, so I did not see him sing, but I do agree with Katem that he was not top 12 or 10 material.

I disagree with Katem about Carmen though. I like her, even though I do not like country music. Its her look and age I think. She is also an underdog, and the fans love to root for an underdog. I also think she will have the ability to improve the most in this competition. That does not mean she will or should win, but I think the experience will help her and I hope she makes it a few more weeks so we can see her develop and mature.

"I feel really bad for Charles, I had him pegged for the top 5."

This guy had no business even making the cut to 12, his voice is so weak that that he sounds like Mickey Mouse with a lung full of helium.

Now to get rid of that overweight jarhead who uses the word "Marine" in every sentence. His suddenly becoming country and getting the heaviest accent this side of Dolly Parton is just a tad too much. Isn't there a war going on somewhere this guy can be sent off to earn the money the taxpayers are footing to have him lay around some mansion in the Hollywood Hills? I think the only ones left at Camp Pendleton where he is stationed are the sick, lame and lazy. His attempting to keep up with Simon doing push-ups seems to indicate that he is in the latter category.

And Julia? I anxiously watch every week anticipating her complete melt down right thereon national television. Talk about reality, this girl is so close to being out of touch with it that the flop sweat is practically pouring off of her.

Ruuuuuuuben is an American Idol only to those actively participating in Over Eaters Anonymous. What the hell did he possibly find at Old Navy that he could use, a key chain?

This crap fest actually makes Survivor look like a PBS Masterpiece.

cyclehausen, I sympathize. I pegged Charles pretty high up in my PTTE too. I still don't think Charles's singing was all that bad. His singing style is not one of those lung-busting types like Trenyce or Clay but I found his voice to have the soothing quality of someone like say, Stevie Wonder. I also still think that on average, he is a better singer than Corey or even Rickey, although definitely nowhere near as good as Trenyce, Clay, Ruben.

Having said that, if I were to pick who to go last episode, I'd have chosen Charles for sure. He just didn't perform well at all last episode. He was pretty out of breath coz I think he was trying to work the crowd by dancing on the stage, and that made him lose control of his voice. The bad song choice didn't help him either.
