"The classic 'it's probably nothing' bit."
At best, a contestant's first name.

I was in lower New York this weekend (Newburgh/Fishkill), and in fairly heavy foot traffic. Lots of people around, lots of conversations going on -- and then this sentence fragment jumped out at me, two passersby, male and female, middle-aged, Caucasian, brunette and blonde, talking to each other. The following was said by the male.

'...Mary Ann was so shocked when she got on Survivor: I felt like I'd let her down...'

That'll get your attention.

I tried to pursue, hoping to overhear more, but they were lost in the crowd within seconds.

Given my usual luck at spoilers, this was probably the local summer camp's Survivor spoof. But maybe...

(Marianne? Marian?)

Good job to pick up on it! Now all we need is Snewser's contestant confirmator to come up soon and wait for people to enter in names, see if any of them match the name you heard...

I'm also intrigued by the "I felt like I let her down..." part -- what could this mean if this Mary Ann/Marianne/Marian person made it onto the actual show? According to the filming calendar over on SurvivorFever, they're now filming Day 8 of the show, so it's not like this guy could have flown over there and taken part in a loved-one reward yet.

Maybe the person speaking was the one that filmed her audition video and it wasn't quite as sharp as he thought it should be. Or maybe he had to be her transportation to an interview or something and she got there late. Who knows, but I thought that same thing when I saw that line Pepe.

That was my best theory, and I was thinking about it all the way back. As in 'it should have been a sure thing, but something I did gave her doubts'.

I like this. It reminds me of the movie "The Conversation", where Gene Hackman thinks he's overhearing two people in danger when in reality they are plotting a murder.

I hope this turns out to be a contestant spoiler. But, at the risk of raining on the parade, "Mary Ann" might have gotten on the production crew. Maybe the guy let her down by not hiring her for another position, or he didn't feel he talked her up enough, or something like that...
