"Kelly's tactical mistake?"
FACTS:
E9 - Three votes for Rich in the bag: Jenna, Gerv, Colleen. Four votes for Jenna: Rich, Rudy, Susan, Sean. One vote for Sean: Kelly.

Kelly's "loyalty" to the TA, or unwillingness to break from it completely, keeps her from voting against Rich.

WHAT IF:
Kelly votes Rich with the Pagong. On the second ballot, Sean also votes Rich as he said he would if they got Kelly on their side.
Rich out 5-3.

Who goes next?

SUE! So instead of the pathetic display we witnessed tonight, perhaps she should consider thanking Kelly, even if it was because she really didn't have the guts to make the move, for putting a couple of extra thousand dollars in her greedy man hands.

Of course there is no guarantee that Kelly makes the F2 by busting the TA. But I bet she would have felt a lot better about herself and the entire experience had she done so.

In fact, I'll bet we'll see the Kelly strategy used often in Survivor II. Next time, no one will be able swear loyalty to any single alliance or individual.

1. "RE: Kelly's tactical mistake?"
I'll bet Kelly learned more from not switching sides. For onr thing, she learned that it's always better to align yourself with nice people! If you find yourself allied with the S.O.B.s against the people you like, switch sides. The S.O.B.s will stab you in the back the first chance they get, no matter how much they profess to like you now.

If she hadn't stayed with the TA, she would always have wondered if she had done the right thing. As the game played out, she learned conclusively that she had not!

2. "Big Mistake "
Rich kept calling it 'a game' and talked about it as a game.

Kelly tried for the 'he's bad guy' / I've been a friend' angle, which didn't appear to play well.

This is Thursday morning quarterbacking, but Kelly would have been better off saying " I had to win four stinkin' immunity challenges to get here or I'd be sitting with you. Rich played the game from the beginning. I played it the way you would have played it -- by winning immunity when I had to. I chose to compete against Rich right here and right now because Rich MADE ME VOTE FOR YOU NICE WONDERFUL PEOPLE"

GetBye_er:

Agree with what you say. In retrospect, Kelly needed to promote the "By voting for me, you are voting for all of us angle a little more."

A) By as you wrote - saying she got there winning immunities.
B) By stressing how much she gained from getting to know everyone. Pointing to a characteristic of each person that she is now trying to adopt. There was no question that she knew everyone better than Rich and needed to do a better job of promoting that.

Imagine if she said something to Jenna and Gervase like "You;ve shown me what's like to really be a survivor. Raising children is a challenge I'm not ready to face, and yet both of you succeed at that challenge every day." and to Rudy and Susan "You've shown me to be true to myself." To Sean and Colleen "To always remember to laugh no matter how stressful life may be", etc... =)

(Added later) - and I think a good ending to her speech would have been. "I've made some mistakes. Some of you may be doubting if you know me. Rest assured though that I tried to know all of you, and I'm a better person for it."

But speech writing is not Kelly's strength. After her first sentence of "I'm not a politician," it all went to pot.
