I don't think she will seriously decide to stay with any of these guys. She is a very shallow girl. The guys sure don't seem to care though, they were all "in love" right off the bus after one look...no matter she has nothing going on between those pretty ears. I HOPE she DOES end up with Zach, it will serve her right! Dennis was a great guy, I thought al lot of the guys were great. Tarek is the best catch of the bunch...but I am a little dissapointed in him that he fell for the dumb blonde, he seems way to intellegent and sweet to fall for her. Did she seriously think Zach would tell her he was a jerk? She really wanted Zach to win all along, otherwise why pick a physical challenge with that group of guys? even she could tell Zach would win just from looking at them. I was more than impressed with Dennis though...WAY TO GO climbing that rock wall!! Dennis YOU ROCK!

Dumb blonde? If she's so dumb, how'd she graduate college with a 4.0 average & on the dean's list? Actually, if she's so dumb, how come she's on a reality show, in the magazine tabloids, & on talk shows and we're just here posting on the net?

no, it was a joke, honey. (but it is technically one way that you could achieve those things, especially in tv.)But being dumb can mean several things: making bad choices or having poor judgement (which is what I think people here mean when they say that Mel is dumb). not being observant not having memory (or logic or IQ intelligence) not having common sense Just cause you have one, doesn't mean you have the others. I have a relative with a superior memory (which many people call "intelligence"), but he has no social awareness, common sense, or logic. (I had to explain to him how you can make 3 right turns instead of one left out of a gas station). Also, you can be a good student and take an easy major, without being super-smart. I wouldn't say that being in tabloids is something that one aspires to. I have no desire to be on reality tv. Especially given what the unsuspecting people have to go through. I had plenty of contacts in tv when i lived elsewhere, if i had wanted to go that route.

No, I got this because she's my cousin. And, yes, you are correct in saying that she is doing this show for exposure. Her mom has had her in beauty pageants since she was a very small baby and she grew up enjoying being in the public eye. She is a very down to earth girl, who makes people (not only her family members) feel like she's interested in what they have to say. She's been that way her whole life ... outgoing, enjoyable to be around, not to mention, a very pretty girl. And you're wrong in stating that she'd do "whatever it takes" to become famous. She wouldn't go against her beliefs.

Do you realize that this is a BASHER site? This might not be the best place for a relative of one of the more bash-worthy Reality TV show participants. You might be happier just watching the show and enjoying your cousin's 15 minutes of fame.I realize that it is difficult to read what "strangers" have to say about your relative, but you need to know that she chose to put herself in this position. She chose to go on a show where the TV audience will be judging her. And lastly, we are not actually bashing your cousin Malena, we are bashing "Malena on Average Joe". So, continue reading our posts here at your own risk, because we will continue to bash her whenever we see fit! I don't mind whatsoever criticism or judging for anyone (especially those who choose to be in the public eye). But to call someone a "shallow ho" or a "dumb blonde" or a "stuck-up beauty queen" (i don't remember which person in here posted that .. i don't think it was you) is just plain petty. Believe me, i watch many of the reality shows & think "why'd he/she do that?" or "I can't believe they did that!" There is nothing wrong with judging someone or criticizing their actions. But to call them names is just plain immature. And I actually enjoy reading the posts in here. I like to see what others are thinking. Hey, that's what makes this country so great.

hello there.Just to be clear, I never said or thought she was dumb (or lacked common sense, etc.), I was just offering reasons why others said so (they were upset she chosen certain guys and thought it to be bad judgment). The only thing I thought silly was when she took Zach's word for it (like he's gonna think say anything bad about himself). Of course, when you read the posts of "fangirls", there is alot of hate and quick judgment that goes along with their "love" for the contestants! They are the "jealous" ones, so I'm sure you see alot of that. And you'll have to be lenient on us regulars here, we are used to alot of people making claims, insulting us and acting personally involved, when they're not. Tho we do have a fair number of insiders too. So, I'd love to know your take on the possible actors or guys who exaggerate their nerdiness just to add drama to the show. Have you seen those theories yet? Does it make you a little mad that they would do that to melana? I might be. Do you think the producers are going out of their way to elicit sympathy for the "sad" guys and make her out to be shallow? If she's not there looking for true love, that's good, because I don't think she'll get to know any of them enough, especially if they are not being their "real" selves. "Do you think the producers are going out of their way to elicit sympathy for the "sad" guys and make her out to be shallow?"It's hard to say what they could really be trying to say to Melana. On a more serious note, they could just be trying to tell her not to sell herself short or settle for someone that just doesn't match with her. This struggle with the nerdy/geeky guy wanting the buxom babe is an ongoing conflict everywhere, not just in NBC land. I'm sure there are a lot of guys out there wondering what it would be like to be close to someone like Melana even if for a little while. In the end, it could give them inner peace and clearer expectations in life which would pave the way to finding their geeky version of Melana. Let's say Craig and Melana got together, everywhere they went they would be forced to deal with group after group wanting to know "what does she see in him" - and it would generate repeated assaults on Craig's pride/dignity and sense of self worth. It's just not worth it. Too great of an obstacle to overcome, but that's just me.

Hi again ... lol@taking zack's word on not being a womanizer & stuff like that .. now that i do agree with you on ... i do actually think that there is an exaggerated "nerdiness" from some of the contestants ... and i think that a lot of these shows try their best to pit one player against another (how they do it, i'm not sure) ... and i do think that some of these shows (whether this one does it or not, i'm not sure) seem to pick 1 or 2 of the contestants who are more likely to get sympathy from the majority of viewers ... but it doesn't make me mad if the producers did any of those things to her ... she chose to be on a reality show, especially knowing how a lot of reality shows can be ... whether or not melana seems shallow is up to the viewer ... i guess it just depends on whether you could place yourself in her shoes ... but i do not have sympathy for her whatsoever ... she had fun doing the show & got exposure (although i admit i have sympathy for some of the guys for getting rejected on tv)

I've only seen the first episode, so I may not be in the best position to throw out an opinion. However, I saw a woman whose world flipped 180 degrees. The guys getting off that bus were certainly not what she expected. They were also odd, sunburned and hung-over. After a short "time out", Melana spent some time with most of the guys and engaged each of them. I remember thinking what a nice person she seemed to be. Have the claws come out since then? Survivor 7: Jon Drinks and Osten Dates Sea SlugsIf I had been in her place and the bus said "Fox Television" on the side, I would have sprinted for the property line and taken my chances with the electrified fence!

I've noticed how conversations can change depending on who you are talking to. Sometimes a complex situation needs a simplistic answer. It's like finding the supermodel underwear hot guy, and all he has to talk about is his blocked pores, his latest manicure, and the want ads in Variety. Or.... It's like findging the Average Joe who is high in academics, but only wants to talk about the life span of a molecule, or the conflict between DNA and RNA. It's like both of those guys are too extreme. Melana needs someone who is well rounded, someone she can get a beer with at the sport's bar one night and go to a network mixer party in a tux the next and not feel out of place in either situation. ..and then she woke up!

Well I for one think Melana is great. She conducts herself honestly and makes expected decisions. She is not playing it up for the camera. Face it everyone, if you were gorgeous and had the chance to have your own TV show where you are the star and a flock of guys are competing for you -- yeah, you'd take it in a heartbeat. It isn't her fault they set her up with a house of guyd outside her normal dating pool. Sure, many are great guys, but hardly what she was expecting I bet. I think she's classy, down to earth, and attractive.

sighs ... i'm just curious as to what you have against melana? is it that she has beauty & brains (& i'm not saying she's as gorgeous as catherine zeta-jones or as smart as einstein)? or that she has chosen to be in the public eye and conducts herself in a professional manner? or is it that she tossed one of the guys off the show that you would've kept on had you been in her shoes? or is it all three? i really am curious to know what you have against a total stranger.

I come to this site to bash Reality TV show contestants. That's what I enjoy!I think it is funny that you think that she "has beauty and brains", because I just don't see it. She seems shallow and is just slightly better than average looking. And she wears WAY too much make-up. And before you get all "oh you're jealous" with me, think about the fact that not everyone who disagrees with you is "jealous" of your cousin. I have always encouraged anyone who disagrees with my opinions to express their's. But to make a valid point, you must back it up with some sort of truth or personal knowledge. There's nothing wrong in seeing her as "slightly better than average looking," because everyone has a different opinion as to what makes one beautiful. But she is actually "book smart." One cannot hold A averages in school and college and be considered "stupid." Now the choices she makes on the show or in life is again viewed differently to each person (as to what their opinion of who she should choose is up to that individual). Just curious as to what makes you think she's shallow? As to your remark of her wearing to much make-up, I say to each his/her own .... meow. And as to what you assumed I'd say about you (or anyone for that matter) being jealous, just remember ... you said it, not me.

If it's one thing I've learned about popular girls, it is they often don't know when they are being cruel or stupid.Check out her reaction to the "hunks" last episode. Did you see how she was practically beaming? She was thrilled and all of the "geeks" could read that and know it was different than the way she first reacted to them. That's why the show had a hunk come out first on the first episode, to show you what she's REALLY like. Popular bubbly girls get all coy and demure and vulnerable around guys they like, so they can make the guy feel masculine. Did you notice how she acted around the nerds? 180 degrees different. She was all joking, boisterious, acting like one-of-the-boys, so-to-speak. Friendly enough, but the message she was projecting was a clear "In your dreams boys!". I used to have lots of popular girls who were very friendly to me. That kind of "friendlyness" is a message to stay at arm's length. Mel probably doesn't have a clue that she acts this way. She's not dumb, just callous and clueless to how she actually treats people. I hope she winds up with Zach, they are both bullies, just in different ways. Travi

Insightful commentary. Though I don't grant the producers the same credit that you do ("That's why the show had a hunk come out first on the first episode, to show you what she's REALLY like."). I think they threw the cinderfella sceen in only because they thought it would look hip and create buzz.
