Towanda, I saw an episode where racism was part of the subjects discussed. I just wanted to tell you how proud I was of you for being knowledgeable and articulate and educating your uninformed house mates of what it really is.You called it for what it was, and didn't back down on educating your house mate that she was the one with the problem, not people of color. I think that she is a classic case and so typical of a lot of others out there like her. Its sad to see that in this day in age, we still have people out there that think that its not a problem for them to be prejudice towards others.
And so I applaud, and agree with you whole heartedly on what you did. You indentified her problem for her and brought out in the open. Your right if you have a problem be truthful about it. Don't deny it and say its not a problem, and try to sweep it under the rug like so many have done. Call it what it is, and bring out in the open. And then if you choose, once you've indentified your problem, then you can either choose to fix it, or not.
So many people go around saying I know this, or I know that, but unless they really experience it, they don't really know what their talking about because they can't relate. So thanks again Towanda, for bringing this out to the open, and educating not only your house mates, but the public as well as to the differences between prejudice, racism, and discrimination of which are social problems that can bring a great nation to its knees.
Toni is a great talent and a great voice. But at this point, I'm sure that your parents are proud of you and way you handled yourself in this situation. Kudos Towanda, good job once again.
Stay strong, and fight the problems.
