Angelfood 2114 desperate attention whore postings DAW Level: "Roller Coaster Inaugurator" 02-17-04, 09:06 PM (EST) "Group 2 - Who would you vote for?" Just ask yourself: What Would Simon do??? (or Paula, Randy) Not a very strong showing tonight. Very bland. Most played it "safe" with boring ballads and yet they still couldn't get it right. Managerr - you called it. Nevertheless, I think we had 3 good possibilities: 1. Lisa - Loved her from the audition. A strong, black woman trapped in a young white girl body. 2. Camile - soft tonight, but showing a softer side. Adorable. 3. Matt - not his best tonight. But still, my Velvet Running Back. Kara - girl, you are not an R&B singer. try another style. .... (a white girl trapped in a white girl body) Noel - more nervous than Colby at nightfall on mogo Mogo. sad. Jesus - adorable, but shaky also. pretty voice. shame. Bri - not enough "umph" to play ball with the Pros. Marisa - good, but too much "coyote ugly". And I love Camile for acknowledging to the world, that Simon is indeed SEXY AF Nurse, bring me my meds now, please.   Top

Terrible. You can hear better singing than all of them at your local karaoke bar on a Friday night. The judges are the ones who should be most embarrassed for letting those shlubs through. Ugh. Lisa was pretty good. Camille was bearable. The rest were just bad. Those brothers are god-awful. Just painful to listen to. I remember seeing them in the auditions and couldn't believe they made it past that round. It's a shame they couldn't have put some of these duds with the 1st group and vise versa. I think everyone in that first group would have placed above these 8.   Top

LAST EDITED ON 02-17-04 AT 10:08 PM (EST) actually, i disagree that last week's top 3 was really any better than this top 3. the talent seems very sparse this season (edit to clarify i meant my top 3 or 4, not the voters top 3 - the guy, whatever his name was, sucked rocks, or at least sounded like he did, as unintelligible as he was) nor was the bottom really any worse than the bottom last week. the brothers sucked just as much as all 3 guys last time. the middle is where the major difference is - much better last week than this week   Top

She seemed very full of herself. She calls it confidence, but you have to at least sound good for cockiness to be considered confidence. She won't make the top two tomorrow, unless Americans feel the way Simon does about a few extra pounds and decide to punish Lisa. Lisa and Camille all the way-- at least until next week when their performances get blown to bits (hopefully!) I'm willing to give them both another chance when the slate is cleared and the finals begin-- the others from tonight? not so much. (Though I do like something about Briana's personality, her performance just wasn't good enough.) EDITED TO CHANGE what was "goo enough" to "good enough : )   Top

It is more a reflection on the judges than the singers that they let people in who cannot carry a tune. What did they have 70,000 people to pick from? Certainly a few wild card picks from Group One. The groups should be more even. Weren't Clay, Ruben, and Kim L. all in the same group last season?   Top

We went from several great voices (Group 1) to this?!?! Song choices were overall very weak and not upbeat enough for me. Save the ballad stuff for later. My picks: Matt and Lisa. They were the only ones who could actually carry a tune. My predictions: Lisa and Camille. I didn't care for Camille at all; I thought she had a very weak voice. But she is cute, and in this group, that's probably all that's needed. Bri, I was really wanting to like based on the auditions. I thought the song choice was poor; she sped it up too much. Kara and Marisa were just dreadful. So were Jesus and Noel. My God! And they passed on Scooter Girl and "Unchained Melody" guy for this lot??? And to think, we could have had Jennifer, Marque, Katie(?) or anyone from Group 1 in this group, and any one of them would have blown these guys out of the water. Doesn't quite seem fair. How do they determine the groups? Are they random or seeded somehow?   Top

The suckiest part was when they showed the clip montage at the end of them all singing a little bit. I think Bri actually was sending a subtle message - hard look, but able to do a soft song. However, I agree that it's too soon in the competition for subtle nuances. I had the show on but after Bri's segment, no one grabbed my attention away from surfing and catching up on reading. It's going to be a really long season if this is a portent of things to come. How much of SImon pouting, whining and squawking about raising bars, bringing game and knocking socks off can we take? I'm not looking forward to him moaning at contestants every week. Bleak.   Top

They let people through this year based on some formula that must reward marginal singing talent that is combined with little personality. I was very tempted not to vote for any of them, but ended up voting for: Camielle, the girl who sang last (What was her name again?) and Bri. I'm joining the "Bring back William Hung" group. What Would Simon do??? *puts on the Simon hat* First, I have to say that Group 2's performance was just plain awful as a whole. I've heard better in a karaoke bar during happy hour. There was a noticeable lack of confidence on stage, as though more than half of the contestants came out defeated before they even opened their mouths. You just can't hold back in a competition like AI and you HAVE to believe in yourself to succeed -- at anything. And most of these folks just didn't. Contrary to popular opinion, I actually thought Briana did a good job with the Norah Jones song. I'm a fan of NJ and was actually surprised that someone as rough-cut as Bri looks could pull a sweet melody off like that. Shows versatility that might just get her somewhere, if not the title of AI. She'll probably have to lose the biker-bar-dyke image to get anywhere major though. It's cute but it doesn't sell to the mainstream. Matt did okay. I thought he was better in previous competitions. Style-wise he needs a makeover. He's not a suit-wearin' type but he could key the presence up a few notches. The Roman brothers stunk on ice, unsurprisingly. They never pulled off a song that rocked in the preliminaries, either of them; why should they now? They talked a big act to the interviewers about besting the other in the competition which is what, I think, got them this far. They just didn't have the talent to back it up. It's a shame too as there were several contestants who had more talent and more interesting personalities whom I would've rather seen compete. I think it would've made for a better 2 Group, that's for sure. Man. Hearing both of those guys was painful. Physically painful. I'm still having unsettling flashbacks. Camile I thought showed promise but I don't think she's quite there yet. She's too young, too intimidated by being in front of an audience. Sweet girl though. It was funny Randy was all bent about her not doing the hip-hop thang but I thought she looked nice. Marisa.. Simon said it best: What's with that stance? You could slide a barstool up under her butt and she'd look like she belonged behind the fence with an acoustic at a C&W bar. It was real hard to concentrate on anything but that. I kept wondering if there was something wrong with her shoes or something that was hurting her. The rest of the contestants I found to be decent but uninspired, restrained and... well. Dull. What disappointed me about Briana's performance was that I felt like she was trying to sing like Norah Jones, not just sing a Norah Jones song. It's like when the judges were complaining about not seeing Matt's personality. Briana's performance was more an imitation of someone else's style that singing a song her own way. I didn't vote for anyone in this group of karaoke bar rejects (I once had a dog that could carry a tune better than the brothers. He was a beagle and could howl up a storm). If you put a gun to my head, I would choose: Lisa - the only one of this group that might have a teeny weeny bit of talent. Now if only someone would take her in hand to show her how to dress and to a good cosmetic dentist. Admired her decision to go with what she feels she does best. Matt - certainly not his best and didn't take well to not doing well, but...he was in tune (a near miracle in this bunch) and I think he does have actual talent. Another one who needs some fashion advice. To me, he has an interesting persona (I know that some vehemently disagree). Camille - a possibility with the voice, but the work needed to get this girl ready to perform in front of large crowds with some sort of self-assurance could take forever. I'm having to go based on personality. 1. Camile - definitely the best of the night. I think she's absolutely gorgeous with hardly any makeup, and I like her personality. (nice singing too) 2. Matt - So he didn't do that well. I think he has a lot more potential in the final 12 than Lisa, despite her being good last night. 3. Brianna - ditto Matt. Bad song choice for her, but I'd rather have someone with some personality up there than any of the people ranked below. 4. Lisa - yeah maybe she sang alright. But if you can't show the girl from the waist down, what's the point? (did you notice that? the camera's never shot her torso or below except from faaar away) 5. Marisa - I don't like her look, and I especially hated the stance, it looked like she was squatting to pee 6. Kara - completely forgettable 7. Noel - only because he's slightly better looking 8. Jesus - how did these two get through? we didn't see anything impressive from either of them in Hollywood. If they weren't in as brothers I doubt either one would make it to the top 32. Both of them were painful to listen to, and completely off key. Wow.   Top

He sucked (he did sing one of his tunes just as out of tune as the bros did). He had a big family connection (which became evident when his family booed the third placer, Billy Klipert, off the stage). I liked Ryan Malcolm, and voted a few times for him over the weeks, but on final week, voted lots just so Gary wouldn't win. Three is the perfect number.   Top

The Hawaiian flag is Red, White and Blue... The colors of the band is associated with reggae colors. And reggae is pretty popular in Hawaii. But I am not a hundred percent sure that's why she's using the band. I just thought I'd put in my two cents there. I like Camille, and that's not just cause we're from the same island. She has a unique voice. There's potential there...and I think that her confidence will grow, her voice will get stronger, she'll get used to being in the spotlight and not get so emotional. Going from Maui to Los Angeles is HUGE...I just think she was nervous may be that's why she was a little ahead of the music. Her nervousness is the biggest thing the judges have a problem with...it's not her voice.   Top
