I have to admit I don't like the people returning either. Yes it was fun to see the 10 look uncomfortable when they realized what was happening. But I don't want Burton and Lil (or any of the others) let back in. So Shawn doesn't get a second chance because he lasted longer than the first 6. That does not make sense at all. I don't even mention Osten because he checked out days ago.

I think MB could have involved voted out contestants in a much better way, as not to ruin the entire concept of the game.It would have been fun to let the 6 outcasts vote out the next person at TC. It would have been fun to see them compete to take stuff away, or something like that. But, to let them have a chance to win, ruins the whole meaning of Survior. Limited rations, my ass. Unless they were on a beach, competing in challenges, and suffering just as much as the others, they had a huge advantage coming back. Plus, they had absolutly nothing to lose. The game has now been manipulated more than ever before, and I think MB crossed the line this time. Yeah, I'll still watch, but if they ever do this again, I'm not so sure. (although, I am positive they will try it in S8, to let the early all-star bootees back in the game.)

Lighten up? LOL! Perhaps you could take your own advise.The game is called Survivor. Fire is life, snuffed torch, and all that. The MAIN principle of the game is to survive to the end without being voted off. To let a voted off member back in the game, with guaranteed immunity no less, changes the game from Survivor to something completly different. It lowers itself to the likes of Love Cruise, Big Brother, and Paradise Hotel. (That doesn't mean it isn't entertaining, it just loses any integrity it had left) It isn't simply a twist to shake things up, it completly changes the meaning of the game. It's desparate. Yes, it would be a lot to overcome to have a ghosty win, but so what. Do I want to see someone who was OUT of the game win? Hell no. I don't care how likable MB edits them to be, or how he portrays them as a huge underdog, the fact remains that they did not survive the vote. And surviving the vote is what it's ALL about. Not merging, or swapping, or anything else. It's Survivor.

I enjoyed the show, but survivor means survive, not be given a second chance, IMO. It was new and shocking, but long term, I think it ruins the concept of the show. Hey, at least MB had the good sense not to wait until final 4 to do it.Personally, I think it is cheating. Unless the outcasts lived under exactly the same conditions, which they couldn't have, since they had NOTHING TO LOSE, it's giving them an unfair advantage over the others. That's cheating.

As a spoiler lurker, I knew this was going to go down. However, as I watched tonight, I did NOT like it at all. Shawn should have asked Jeff, Am I, too, going to get a second chance? But only some people get that second chance; those people lost fair and square. Burton lost and was in on throwing the challenge, for God's sake. He just apparently didn't know that the rest wanted to throw it to boot HIM off. He lost, he's out. His feeling were hurt. Boo hoo. If everyone else doesn't get a second chance, too, then it is very wrong. If they wanted to set up a loser's bracket, do it. But don't give some people, the early losers, an advantage over the rest. "They've only had small meals". Well, so what? Some protein? Better than NONE at Morgan! Did they have running water? Beds? Food delivered? THIS CANNOT BE FAIR! I understand Christa and Sandra voting out Shawn over Jon. They assume they can beat Jon easier than Shawn in individual immunity. But wouldn't Rupert be smarter to keep Shawn? Why not keep another strong male to divert attention from himself when there is a merge? Rupert will be the target when they merge. He should want other strong males to target.

volsfan, see "trolling for opinions" later in this thread. I think we are dealing with technicalities here and there are varying opinions on if there was even a vote. Osten went to TC. Did I miss it or did Osten say "I'm quitting here now, no matter what the vote is". I didnt hear that. Of course I could have missed it. THAT would have been monumental. There was an informal vote (and I don't agree with that informal vote). Osten deserved to go on day 4 in my mind, dont get me wrong. But, they could have forced him to quit. THAT would have been monumental. This could very well be all due to editing and he really did say he would quit, no matter what. But that is not what they showed. THAT would have been monumental. Lastly, the editing did not show what Osten would have done if he was forced to vote. And so IF he voted, someone on Morgan would have had a ding against them, that may come into play later. It was just all so very dissatisfying to call this monumental and never been done before, just because other seasons didnt vote the person out. Again, they should have MADE him quit or made him vote and they didnt do either. That didnt sit well with me.

If Osten wants to quit, then he doesn't deserve the courtesy of a vote. The only thing troubling about the situation is that previous tribe members who have wanted to quit weren't allowed that option (after the tie vote, Mitchell threw in the towel, but Jerri and Amber forced the second tie anyway, which led to the previous votes announcement; maybe not the best example, but I can't think of another at the moment). I hope if there is another instance like this in a future Survivor, it's done in the same fashion as it was done in this episode.

Agree with you Misto... if the tribe had been polled, Mitchell may have been allowed to quit, however, Shawna would not have been allowed as the tribe wasn't going to give her - her way. The plan was different so if they were polled, they would have still needed to vote.

Actually, Mitchell probably wouldn't have been allowed to leave either. Jerri & Amber had a 3-3 tie, and I'm assuming they had no clue what the tie-breaker would be. They thought they still had a shot at being the dominant alliance. The only previous Survivor who could have gone in a straw poll the same way that Osten went tonight was Gabe. Gabe didn't want to vote for anyone, was resigned to leave when his tribe turned against him, and Sean and the Robbfaddah were probably glad they were going to get spared. Quite frankly, I don't understand why Survivors can't vote for themselves at tribal council. If they don't think that they are worthy to go on, why should they be denied the right to make that decision. Further, if anyone is serious about being taken out of the game (like Osten was tonight), I don't see any reason why the tribe should be consulted either. If certain allies get shafted by aligning with a quitter, that's their problem. Get your losing butt off the show and let the real players play.

I think when you quit the show, you're not just getting a ride home, you're officially out of the franchise. They're not going to have him do any interviews, there's probably a clause in the contract that if you quit you can't talk or write about the show (and thereby profit from your association with it). This 'man' is officially done with his unwarranted 15 minutes of fame. And that's why I think JP said this person is gonna regret their decision for a long, long time. The good news? The Twist/Regret speculation can now have its torch extinguished. Unless I missed it, I didn't hear the Big Lie tonight. Damn. -P

First off I loved this episode. It was my favorite one to get angry at. But it was Sandra who made me smile again and again. There is more going on behind those Latin eyes then MB is letting us see. She predicts that both Burton and Lil are the one's coming back - maybe she's Snewster!! cause they both are saying the same thing. She tell's Rupert to ask Shawn and Jon why he should vote for them. She rejoices that Shawn and Jon are fighting each other and will vote each other out - and just stays out of it. She is my hero. Now Osten on the other hand. Well most of the posts here have said it all. But clearly he has made his name synonymous (sp) with quiter, woos, wimp, loser. He will be dispised for eons to come. But I finially figured him out. Yup, and since no one else has said it yet (or I missed the thread, sorry) I'll say it here: OSTEN MISSED HIS MIRROR!! He's leaving because he can't stand not to see his body and is worried about it. And Jon. Well, too bad, but he's in this for the long hall. He's got nine lives. He won't win, but he's going to get pretty far. And as far as the Outcasts go: they didn't look hungry. Even skinny Ryan had more meat on hi than Andrew. Unfair.

LAST EDITED ON 10-30-03 AT 11:43 PM (EST)I didn't love this episode, BUT I agree with most of your review - Sandra was funny, and smart (foreshadowing going on here!), getting others to fight, etc. Osten -what a wimp; at least the "He's the liar about being a WUSS" people can lay off it. He's a wimp. He's not a liar. Jeff was really disappointed - like he said, look at that body. Nice to know they make mistakes too. And, yes, Jon does have nine lives. I find it SO interesting that the losers (or ex-losers) have mostly said, Yeah, he's annoying but I liked him, he was funny, interesting, entertaining. Maybe he grows on you? Please . . . . . P.S. Didn't love this episode BECAUSE I don't think the twist is fair. If losers get a second chance, set up a losers bracket and do it by the numbers. Then EVERY loser gets a second chance. Not just SOME of them.

Ok, let me make this perfectly clear. I am not making excuses for Osten, and I do think he is a big whiney weenie, BUT...I think they made a bigger deal out of it than it was. Osten is not the first one to want to quit, he just lasted the longest. What about the people who got voted out early because they were "sick"? Jessie, Janet, etc.. Yeah, they may not have said it out loud, but they wanted out because they couldn't hack it. I know there have been others. What about whatshername, the redhead from last season? Didn't she cry for days wanting out? I think MB has been waiting for a quitter, and the fact that he got a strong looking guy to knuckle under, probably thrills him. It just proves that his game will break anybody. It's not a picnic, vacation, piece of cake, blah, blah, blah... If Osten said he was sick instead would anyone be on his case? If he was puking or something, would it have been different? At least the kid had the guts to admit that the game kicked his ass. He could have easily played sick, or pissed people off to get cut, but he didn't. I have to give him some credit for that. Not much, mind you, but some. MB loves the drama, Jiffy loves the drama. They made a huge deal of Osten wanting out, for the DRAMA. It thrilled them to have a big, strong, guy quit. Don't be fooled for a second by thinking they are pissed at Osten. It gave them something new to exploit, that's all. Ok, you can throw stuff now, I've got my pancho firmly in place.  ps. The twist SUCKS!

Will he be giving interviews at all? I suspect the PC tomorrow will be CBS saying that Osten is persona non grata from now on.On the other hand, it does take a certain amount of courage to admit that you have lost. He told his tribe that each of them was more deserving of the mil than he was. He was right. They are. I think the big regret is Andrew wishing he had voted him off instead of Lil. Then, if Lil does indeed make it all the way to final 2, he would at least have been able to see her as deserving. Lastly, it appears that MB had no way of twisting this any other way so the standard misdirection was, in fact, the truth, as it was with Roger last season. I find that refreshing and it keeps us spoilers on our toes.

My mind is already "pretty much" made up, but I want to sound out the SB community anyway. In my Anti-Bootee Contest on Fanatics, I have to decide on how to deal with Osten. Normally, if you name a player as safe and that player gets booted, then you get booted out of the game. However, given the uncertainty of this week, I had written the following into my entry post:-----------------------------------------------------
Make your entry with Anti-Bootee’s as you normally would. If there is no TC vote next week, the picks are null and void, and we move on to the next week. If any player leaves the game in a non-voting situation, you get NO penalty. If a player gets voted out by The Ghost Tribe, you DO lose.
----------------------------------------------------- I wrote those caveats just in case Osten basically walked off the set partway through the show or if a challenge last-place finisher was automatically booted. However, Morgan DID go to Tribal Council, and his being voted against was discussed and agreed upon. His torch was snuffed and he left the game. So... does somebody get the boot from my game because Osten essentially was sent packing by the tribe, or are they spared because there was no actual vote and Jiffy made him say he quit. I'll admit that my decision is almost certainly going to be that any Osten-pickers are spared because I specifically said that there will be no penalty for anyone leaving the game in a non-voting situation, which this technically was. Bash or agree?

I'm not playing, so I don't have a stake either way. Osten was voted out. Show of hands, verbal vote, or traditional write it down, he was voted out by his tribe. He didn't walk off prior to a vote. There was no reason for them to formally vote when everyone KNEW that Osten was going. There was no hiding it from the audience or the tribe or from Jiffy. It would be no different if the tribe would have drawn straws beforhand. They still would be voting out the one who picked the short straw. They had to send somone home, and Osten volunteered to be that someone. It was done at TC, and the vote wasn't formally done, because it would be meaningless and unnessassary. Anyway, that's just my opinion, not a bash.

Rules is rules. I didn't list Osten because I thought he was going home, and I'm right. But you can't evict folks who listed him as safe. This affects only one player in the game, BTW. *** If you start changing the rules in the middle of the season, I'm gonna osten yer damn game. 
These reality show contestants need a reality check!

Maybe they didn't want to bore everyone, but saying "Are you voting for Osten?" to me was a stinky conclusion. Secret ballot is secret for a reason. They (the PTB)knew Trish was getting voted off and didn't say "Are you voting for Trish, Rupert?" I think they all thought it wasn't right to have to vote off someone and Osten stepped up and the others said "Vote me." Lots of other people have asked to be voted off. Laurie
