I don't find that too surprising. When I was married and went out without my husband I always had to tell several guys I was married. He always had to tell women he was married when he was sans me. I don't find that out of the ordinary.

I don't find it too surprising either. Kim is slender and attractive. I think TJ would have been hit on too in a bar. I think it was great to hear the men answer the questions from the gals, but I think most men answered what they thought the women wanted to hear. For example: they all claim that they focused on a woman's looks only when they were younger (certainly doesn't pertain to them now). Yeah, right. I once had a roommate a little heavier than Jodi. For several months we would go out with another girl or two on a weekly basis to different places, we were in our 20s and 30s. Not one man spoke to us, not ever. There were guys of all ages in these places too, and they weren't pick up joints either. Mostly there were happy hour places where people from work would go. It's like we were completely invisible sitting at the bar, sitting at a table, standing up. I have to laugh everytime I hear a guy state that looks only mattered when they were "young and stupid". BTW, I could go out with another group of friends and I would meet men all the time, every time I went out. What the guys should have said in the session was "ladies the only woman we would take an interest in would be Kim and maybe Kelly, the rest of you are too heavy".

It's pretty sad if a guy can only see one weight as attractive. We're all different, and their are beautiful fat chicks too. Weight doesn't equal beauty imo.

I didn't find Kim's remarks about MEN hitting on her nearly as notable as the little hand holding session between her and Jodi during that meeting. Did I see that right?

Lanna, i saw the hand holding...when it happens with me it's usually during an emotional statement and someone caring is giving me silent support. i know we don't see those sessions to the full extent. jodie was saying she's never seen herself to her full potential (i'm in that club , i bet a bunch of us are..someone can hold my hand..lol) seriously..but right now..if i was there i'd be bending kim's fingers back...i'm so mad at the way she treated her mom that if i were there i'd tattoo horns on her head to warm other men off..and i care but just don't like her right now.i think soon kelly and kim are going to be one of those japanese monster fights monster movie. i did like the guys today tho.(they were cute too) if they were really saying how they really feel, then they seemed great and i loved the guy said seeing his wife in sweats and thongs when he comes home and the older one saying it's how he goes to work, cool. my X could learn a thing or two...but my now hubby is like that..just glad i'm here i guess. wonder if the guys are actors or where do they get the ppl they add to the show. they seemed all nice looking sweet acting guys..to us at least. they sure didn't get one of them off elema- date(or whatever that show is called) the worse guys ever are on there..but the single guy today...i have daughter's so it gives me some hope. but i rarely honestly, see married men (any age), who wouldn't turn down women flirting. not even mine..but he's a dork so i'm not worried.

I can't see any man seriously hitting on her for her with the constant scowl she has on her face. She isn't the elast bit warm or friendly or even interesting. All she does is moan and complain. Of course men in bars are very often drunk so they take what they can get and maybe they figure Kim is such a loser that she'd go with them cuz she had no one else. I also wouldn't put it past Kim to lie to make herself look like somethign she isn't-she does that alot too.

If anyone watches Kim they will see she lies and exaggerates things to make her look good and victimized and like everyone else is doing her wrong. That is deceitful. She has been called on it by the other the HG's and the LC's. Since this thread is about Kim and men I won't go through listing all the times she has done it. To get back to the topic I don't believe for a second she is hit on that often in a bar or anywhere for that matter. She is not the least bit approachable in my eyes.

I believe what Kim says to be true. I don't think she's the same out in public as she is in the house - not unless she hangs out with back-stabbing gossips who hate on her at every opportunity that is. She is attractive enough and slender - 2 main, albeit unfortunate, factors that WILL attract a man - and any guy who says otherwise is a bald-face liar. It is unfortunate that men don't bother to hit on plain, ordinary, even overweight women that much (unless that's THEIR bag) but just come to Vegas, where I live, and walk the casino's - you'll see men eye-balling the slender, good-looking women non-stop - I see men hitting on women all the time and I've yet to see a guy hit on an older, overweight woman. I've never even seen an overweight cocktail waitress - hmmmm, wonder why? Cuz that's NOT what guys want to see...........sad but true.

You got it Dayum Yankee! Chances are "SO Kim" and "Real Life Kim" are two different women. Alcohol, Music, FRIENDS (as opposed to HG's) probably set the stage for a much more positive, relaxed Kim. I have no trouble believing that she gets her share of pick-up lines. As far as the men go, I agree with the poster upthread who said that their answers were great...and perfectly tailored for a woman's television show. It may be superficial and it may be unfair, but male truth and female truth aren't always on the same page. Reasonably thin, attractive women are what most (not all, but most) men are looking for . Very beautiful women with good figures get a lot of stares, but quite often, men are too intimidated to approach them. Actually, most of the men that I've asked say that if it's all about a physical connection, her body is more important than her face. If it's about a possible long-term connection, a good body and a good face are important (in order to approach her in the first place). And if it's late, the guy has had a few, he really wants an "encounter" (I'm being polite), and the pickings are getting slim, someone like Jodi might be approached, but never bragged about. Don't hate me, I'm just repeating what they've told me. I doubt it's a surprise to anyone over 30, lol. Having said that, guess where I met my future husband 27 years ago? *******************************************

I think it is shallow not truthful to say that men would only hit on an overweight woman if he were drunk and the pickings slim. Skinny does not equal beauty or more attractive or more dates. Halle Berry one of the most beautiful women in the world has been married and divorced twice. Now on the other hand, Ophrah has been with Steadman for around 20 years and she met him when she was overweight and by some standards she is still overwieght. Was Steadman drunk and the pickings slim? Even as a plus size I don't think Oprah was some booby prize of a date. Star Jones met her husband when she was overweight. The majority of Americans are overweight. Therefore normal men would be some lonely and dateless individuals if they let a Hollywood standard of beauty dictate who they should and should not approach. No real woman can hold a candle to good lighting, a stylist, make up artist, and airbrushing, a technique used in photography to erase the imperfections. The reason why women are vomiting up food is to meet some unrealistic standard of beauty set up by Hollywood. Magazines mislead young women into thinking that in order to be beautiful you have to look like the girl on the cover. In reality, the girl on the cover doesn't even look like that. Also ask a man what he thinks is a good body you might be surprised to find out that not all men are interested in stick figures. Alot of men want a woman with curves and something he can hold on to. More cushion for the pushing and more motion for the ocean as they say.

Hi Liveurbestlife.Sorry to take this thread further off-topic but I just wanted to back up what you have said. In my opinion, you are absolutely correct in what both about men and about how easy it is to get picked up in a bar. Anyone can get picked up in a bar. And anyone can be considered attractive to a man. Every man is different, and every man has their own interpretation on what it means to be attractive. And it is not always about looks, infact often it is not. Myself, I always found the best way to get a man to find me attractive, was to let them know I found THEM attractive. I never found anything to perk a mans interest faster. I wonder about us women sometimes. We have set impeccably high standards for ourselves, almost impossible standards. And then we blame the men for our standards. It has been my experience that a women will judge another women as attractive or not, far faster and by much higher standards than a man will do. But yet we continue to believe that it is the men that have these standards that we set. As regards to Kim, she was probably understating the whole thing if anything. She seems to me to be the type to be 'friendly' in a bar-type/social situation (not infering anything bad here). Many men see 'friendly' as showing an interest in them. And thus (as I said earlier) their interest is perked. And no, skinny doesn't equal beauty. I wear size 4 (and I dress "baggy"), but I am no beauty. Plain Jane over here. Short plain Jane. Never stopped men paying an interest in me though. And my husband thinks I am the sexiest thing on the planet (secretly though, I think he's biased) .

24. "RE: Kim and men" |
Hi Guys I know this is about Kim & men hitting on her, but something was addressed that... well, I think it could use some firsthand input. (don't worry, I def. have an opinion on Kim too though! hehe)
LivUrBestLife said: "Magazines mislead young women into thinking that in order to be beautiful you have to look like the girl on the cover. In reality, the girl on the cover doesn't even look like that."
If I didn't know what I was talking about, I would keep my mouth shut. If this was secondhand knowledge, I wouldn't say a word. But this is my job.. so I take it seriously. (I have worked as a professional model for almost five years now.) While working, I have met countless young women that do the same. As LivUrBestLife said, "No real woman can hold a candle to good lighting, a stylist, make up artist, and airbrushing, a technique used in photography to erase the imperfections."
Yes, there is airbrushing. Yes, there is lighting. Yes, there is a stylist. Yes, there is a make-up artist. And there are many other people (and things) involved in putting together a publishable image. My point is, that if models could not hold a candle to themselves, there wouldn't be much of a modeling industry - anyone could be a model! Things like skin, wrinkles... heck, even BONE STRUCTURE could just be.. made to be something completely different. Direct booking happens all the time. (When a model is booked, or hired, off her photo's only and not by a face to face meeting.) Airbrushing is an art form, and it takes time. The more a girl needs, the more expensive the shoot becomes. And there are just too many girls that don't need that much for it to be worthwhile to hire the ones that need 14 hours of work. Which means less money is made. Airbrushing in modeling is used for things like... the flash's reflection in the iris of the eye, a stray hair, a make-up smudge (happens all the time under the eyes) a pimple.. a pimple.. not an acne-scarred face. I could post many examples of snapshots of models that I know just 'hanging out' and then the retouched photos of them in magazines, ad's, etc. they have done.... and you would very quickly say, "Oh wow, same girl!" There are enough good-looking, slim and photogenic girls in the world to be themselves on magazine covers. It isn't the airbrushing that makes a model a model... it's her bone structure. Her coloring. Her skin. You get it And YES... there are girls who call themselves models and have some pictures taken, a portfolio put together and comp cards printed. MANY of these girls look nothing like the photos. But, a reputable agency won't do that. And those girls are not getting covers of magazines. So that is the statement that I am addressing. I just figured that since I knew this firsthand you might want to know. It's just one of those things... if your profession is mentioned and is addressed in a way that you know isn't really accurate... well, I would want someone to inform me were the situation reversed. As far as the other issue.... The opinion of the straight males that I know? They would much rather go up to an in shape women versus an out of shape women. The opinion of the straight females that I know? They would much rather go up to an in shape man versus an out of shape man. The opinion of the gay males that I know? They would much rather go up to an in shape man versus an out of shape man. The opinion of the gay women that I know? They would much rather go up to an in shape women versus an out of shape women. Is this really surprising? No one is saying overweight makes you a bad person... this is about first impressions. (and by sight only, across a bar..) I mean... how many women would rather have Mel Gibson approach her instead of the late Chris Farley? Forget what you perceive their characters', bank accounts' and personalities' to be... it's a bar and you know nothing about them except what they LOOK like. (Oh.. I pick Mel! hahaha) I am obviously not in the over 45 crowd. (I just turned 23 a week or so ago) But I am talking about the attitude of those I know. (Think 21-35+) Some of them are in the entertainment industry. Some of them are students. Some have settled down into family life. Others are professionals. I dunno, I don't find it surprising. Have a wonderful day! Rachel

29. "RE: Kim and men" |
Thanks Rachel for this "first hand" knowledge you have. But often times the women on the cover don't look as perfect in real life as the pictures. And most average women don't look like models.Rachel writes: There are enough good-looking, slim and photogenic girls in the world to be themselves on magazine covers. And if there are so many slim and photogenic girls out there who are model material then why is the industry so tough to break into? Why have I never heard of you if it is so easy and any young photogenic slim woman can do it? Why are eating disorders so prevalent in your field of work? My point is that Hollywood sets up an unrealistic expectation for women to follow. As you say yourself it takes more than being skinny. One thing you failed to mention was height. Height is important in modeling. I could be skinny and photogenic but if I am only 5ft in height I wouldn't get booked. So are you saying that if women don't have model looks like you then she is not beautiful. If the average woman isn't a cover girl then she isn't attractive to men. Because that was my point. I am not really interested in the the modeling industry. My interest is that no average everyday woman looks like a model. There is a "standard" in modeling that most women can not live up to and in my opinion should not try to. If modeling is your thing then focus on that and be good at it. But since the average woman is not apart of that inudustry don't be mislead into believing that in order to be seen as attractive you have to look like a model. Oh and skinny does not equal in shape. There are many out of shape skinny folk.
